Firefighters save historic Oceanside Pier after flames engulf restaurant

Firefighters arrived about five minutes after the first call. Crews battled the flames for nearly three hours and contained them to the pier's hammerhead. They said the vacant restaurant and a neighboring brine box sustained significant damage. Lauren Pozen reports.

My family used to live in Oceanside, and my mom took us up on the pier at least once that I remember! We went to the beaches around it quite often too! That restaurant wasn't there at that time; but I remember a small shop was there before. I don't remember much else about what was on the pier, it was probably 60 years ago at least!
