Update 10/09: this comet continues to follow the predictions in this video. This is a very nice comet. It is on par with NEOWISE in 2020, but its not McNaught in 2007, so it is clearly not the comet of the century. The tail of this comet will be unique and interesting in its own way, so it makes no sense to compare it to others. The nonsense in the media will only get worse in the next few days, so beware. Misleading hyperbolic comments will be deleted.
The Comet of the century, or at least the best visual display of any celestial visitor, was Hale Bopp back in 1997. It was quite simply an outstanding comet, clearly visible in the night sky, no need for binoculars or fancy telescopes. It was there clearly in the nights sky, even someone not looking for a comet, could see it.
Hope for a wonderfull apparition in the evening sky for c/2023 a3. There is also another exciting comet, c/2024 s1, that could be very bright. Two bright comets in one month is very rare. Thank you again for your work❤
I saw it naked eye 2 days ago, incredible, even better through a pair of 10x50's, very bright coma and the tail was magnificent about 4 degrees, looking forward to the evening apparition in the comming weeks. From -27S
Thanks for the informative video. Now I have a better idea of when it becomes visible in the evenings here in Western Australia. I can explain to others when they might be able to spot it. Interestingly I have had colleagues that tell me how to observe the comet based on what they hear and see on media - they go quiet when I have showed them my images. I have been photographing the comet most mornings since September 21. It became visible to my eye on the 27th and I have observed it every day since. I am looking forward to some evening observations - I'm tired! Thanks again D
thanks for the helpful information! im a photographer who mostly sticks to wildlife and airplanes, but ill break out some old fast telephoto lenses i have for this and see if i can manage to get a decent shot of it
Tried to see it this morning about an hour before sunrise from an overlook of the Mississippi River in southeast missouri and couldn't see it. Did see it in pictures i took. Unfortunately i had it slightly out of focus.
The weather in the North of Wales, has been totally useless for comet watching. There have not been any clear skies for well over a week, even though i have a magnificent vantage point, free from any light pollution. The only real opportunity to see the comet, was last Saturday evening, but even then, there was cloud on the distant horizon. Either way, there hasn't been a comet to rival Hale Bopp back in 1997. That was a simply amazing comet, visible in the night sky for quite some time. I will keep watching for Comet Atlas, but unless the weather improves, it will be long gone,
We think its going to stick around long enough to view in complete darkness later this month. As the comet moves away and dims, the tail is projected more widely, and like everything else about this comets' apparition, the effects cancel out to some extent. There should be a great view on the 24th just to the right of the Milky Way. So be patient. Your time will come.
Please tell me what magnitude it will be at 12 October, as in India, the comet will be *extremely* low on the horizon, is it worth to observe it? Now, it's almost impossible to observe it due to the cloud cover being at 98% and sometimes even 100%
I'd take that with a big grain of salt. It may be technically true, and that won't stop people from breathless stories and videos, but our analysis shows that it will be too close to the sun to be visible. But the longer we accumulate data, the better our predictions become. So as Greg likes to say, "Comets are like fine wines; you shouldn’t try to judge a vintage while the grapes are still on the vine."
I don' t know what to say when I get questions like this. All of the info you need is in the video. Is this a language issue? Would it help to spend some time on captions in multiple languages?

No, no it isn't! If you watch my video you will see that the comet is not easily visible during its peak brightness, which I estimated to be -4.1 weeks ago. But that means little, and it certainly doesn't mean that it will be as bright as McNaught. It is a mistake to focus on the brightness alone.
