      Upon visiting the museum in Portsmouth I find myself now incredibly obsessed with the Mary Rose too!

    I feel very fortunate to have visited about 30 years ago as a school child. Can't wait to take my children. I hope they'll appreciate it more than I did.

      I saw it too back then. The memory of it has blended with a scene from Alien that basically looked the same....

    I'm pretty sure Henry VIII became head of the church in 1534 not 1537. By 1537 he was already married to Jane Seymour (she died that year) and Henry was the head of the Church of England long before that.

    Fantastic video! I appreciate the effort in all the fantastic editing. BBC quality. One question remains though…Have the French ever beaten the English at anything…I mean, really?

    • @AlexTheHistoryGuy
      @AlexTheHistoryGuy  2 года назад +1

      Haha thank you! That's so kind. Well the French like to try but we just get the cane out and give them a jolly good thrashing.

    I’d never heard of the Mary Rose until I read “Heartstone” by CJ Sansome which ends with the disaster of that ship. How horrible for both the victims and everyone who saw it sink! Can you imagine being caught in that net that covered the top of the ship? Was the net there to keep the sailors on board from jumping overboard if the fighting got bad or was it some sort of protective device put there for the safety of the crew? Either way it failed and was the cause of certain death for the soldiers and the sailors on board.

      Working on a ship would have been a great sense of freedom and very dangerous at the same time!
