I think most organizational buyout programs in the private sector have occurred because the top managers of companies had doubts about the ability of the company to provide for pensions and retirement benefits in the future for the next 30 years. This interview is confusing because the guest expert implies that federal employees could take the buyout as well as get a pension, as in the deferred retirement. This is all confusing because Erskine Bowles of the Bowles-Simpson debt commission said in 2011 that all of the expenses of the Executive Branch were being paid from borrowed funds, and not taxpayer funds. This was broadcast on C-SPAN briefly a few times, in 2011, 2012, and C-SPAN replayed it in 2024. In 2011, they also said all of the expenses for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were paid from borrowed funds, and 50% of the borrowed funds came from foreign countries. They gave no more detail than that. The financial implication of the annual deficits is that about perhaps 27% of federal government spending has been coming from borrowed funds. The political leaders and the people in the press never talk like that. They always talk as if all federal spending has come from taxpayer funds. That cannot be true if the federal government has started running annual deficits of $1 trillion on an annual basis. This statement is not meant to disrespect anyone's ego. It is a matter of recognizing the implications of definitions. I am not taking a position on what the Trump Administration is doing. I am trying to fit all of the information I have gotten together. My personal life is one of misery. I am destitute at the age of 54, and alone in it as an American. The only reason to be around my parents and other relatives is to feel like a professional and financial failure in life. I do not like relating to my parents Bonnie and Terry Tipton of Las Vegas as well as the Noones because they give every impression they think pure, unceasing noble thoughts, and have been perfect people in their lives morally and otherwise. Their lives do seem rather perfect when I hear about it. Perhaps what Erskine Bowles of the Bowles Simpson debt commission said was false or inaccurate about the financial situation of the federal government in 2011. It would be helpful if the people on the commission gave more detail. I do not have a position on the federal employee buyout.

This is what I was considering because I have it in writing from my HR director that I can rescind the resignation as long as I haven't signed the agreement..
You agree that you cannot sue the government when you sign. Why is that needed? If you believe it is alright to sign this, come to me, I have a bridge I can sell you for real cheap.
If you follow what Elon did to Twitter, this's just the beginning, just warming up, the real hurricane is not there yet. He will slash 80% of employee/departments(HR for sure) and left very bare minimum to run it. He gonna access security system and block access so they can't sabotage the company and enter building. He is going to make sure the remaining employee work non stop even at night/weekend when he wants something done in such amount of time (If I don't sleep, why you sleep?). In today world, it's hard to find another job. If you don't take this one , he will simply shutdown the whole department (USAID, Dept of Education, etc) so I can understand the fear the people are facing right now.
My only thing about this, as a non federal worker, this is messed up. Providing a buyout is not beneficial in a labor market where no one is hiring. These people still have families and just about to add to unemployment. Not to also mention them losing their years out into a pension.
I can't get then to answer my call. Retirement age as if Jan8. And sending me a reset password in the mail? I hope I don't loose my 36 year Retirement conversion. I will leave this Country forever. I just turned 62, I'm Air Force retired, disabled veteran and I have over 18 years DOD Federal Service. I sent the reply resign and retire before I left work last night. Perfect for someone that was contemplating leaving federal civil service or "eligible " for retirement. You must have all your years amd eligibility for retirement. This does not appear to be an "early out " 25, at any age offer as in the 90's but hold on I bet that will still happen as it did in the lare 1990's
Since FEMA workers are considered part time workers. How would this be calculated. Sometimes we work for months at a time, sometimes we don’t work for months at a time. Would our position make a difference in the payout?
It's just like Corporate America. If you want to cut costs of running a business, you first offer a way for people to resign and get paid for a period of time. After that, reductions in force help the business reach their cost-cutting goals.
Trump is all for show. Every year about 100,000 people leave the federal workforce. Just put a freeze on hiring. But buyout, layoff, and firing make headlines. Trump is all about headlines.
I've listened to many reports, but frankly I am confused. After 9/30/25, are these people entitled to unemployment compensation, if they take this package. It looks like at this point, they don't have a choice in the matter to take it, or face termination. Do our federal unemployment laws cover these people or not? no one is talking about that. Considering EMusk's track record with his own company's employees, I would not trust him.
No we won't be eligible for unemployment bc we resigned and if they don't pay immediately we still aren't eligible for unemployment bc they will argue we are still technically employed even if we aren't receiving the pay ..
The director of the federal government agency I work for announced on Tuesday that he is submitting a blanket waiver to prevent any employee of the agency from participating in the deferred resignation program!
they knew that out of the 2.3M people only a handful would accept it. 40k-50k to be exact... less than 100k for sure right before the deadline. the ones who choose to stay risk getting fired and receiving less from unemployment. the first deal is always the best deal. If u choose to stay, make sure you have a plan b , JUST IN CASE... PEOPLE, THIS IS HAPPENING, THIS IS REAL, prepare!
There are no pros if the offers cannot even be proven to be legal. No intelligent person would take this offer with the information that's been put out with all the confusion. The terms of what are not clear and those people could absolutely get robbed. There are already regulations in place to reduce federal workforce as needed using RIF (reduction in force). Why are they trying to go around this well outlined system that already exists? Also, remember fed employees make up 5% of the budget, so really that's not what got us into this debt problem in the first place, nor would it fix the debt problem even if we fired every single federal employee. Maybe a little less action in Ukraine... a few less wars in the Middle East... less $500 hammers... just some ideas.
This whole mess was presented as an option to Federal employees who work at home at least part of the time. Many already work full-time at the office, so why were they sent this memo if the reason for the memo is to report back to the office? Sloppy at best. I am inclined to think no pros and all con.
You just said the magic word you work for the people, not the other way around. As a government agency, you're not supposed to money laundry? You're not supposed to use your power to weaponize and abuse the system. So yes, you should lose your job completely. You shouldn't even get a penny of benefits or retirement. For healthcare, you broke a lot of laws
Elon’s out here playing 4D chess-paying for “deferred resignation” like it’s a Black Friday sale on federal employees. He’s basically buying them out, one severance package at a time, and replacing them with AI so advanced it’ll probably start tweeting memes and launching rockets on its own. Welcome to the future, where your new government chatbot might just ask you for a verification code.
I understand thinning the federal workforce and LEGITIMATE buyouts are not uncommon, but this is forcing workers to take a bad or worse course. It's not WHAT the president is doing....it is HOW he is doing it. And we know this is Il Presidente Musk.
Yes, we need people that is not going to break the law. And yeah, do everything by the law, not weaponize and hurt united states of america, so if you are those people who broke the law, you should be charged and you should be throwing in jail. Or they should take everything from you. Because the people trust you to do the job and when you break the law. Well, you should have consequence. It's not a 2 tiere justice....
Possibly a dumb question, why don’t workers just go back into the office and do the jobs they are getting paid to do? Instead of arguing why they need to go in or bail out details.
Well I know for my agency personally we saved the marine corps 7 MILLION dollars just last year by working from home we eliminated so many costs and placed those on employees and we have empirical evidence our productivity has only improved since working from home and on top of that we leased out over half of our office space to active duty marines so again it's not just ppl not wanting to go into the office... This literally doesn't even make sense and if the goal is to be more efficient with $$$ then why the hell would you take away one of the few perks us underpaid federal employees were getting when it greatly benefited the government? We don't even have the office space to return to this whole thing has been a cluster f***
Does Congress allow the Executive branch to meddle regarding who they hire or fire in their offices, in their Legislative branch? Why then should Congress expect to be able to meddle in the hiring and firing of the Executive branch?
Well, congress makes the laws, so..............if you consider that "meddling," then I don't know what to tell you. There are laws that govern the process of eliminating gov't positions, firing, and RIFs. The problem here is that this administration is ignoring all of that.
@@Stealthmuiz Have you read any laws? No, he doesn't - not without cause. The President doesn't hire people, either - the government does. We swear an oath to the constitution, not the freakin' President. God - educate yourself. SMH........
Lost all credibility when he called the last long lapse in funding the Trump Shutdown. Just another partisan former Fed that would be applauding the deferred resignation as groundbreaking if it was a Dem President.
They completely ignore the main point of the buy out which is get back in the office and show up in person. Majority of Americans have to show up. They should too.
This happens in the private sector all the time. The fact federal workers are calling it anti-democratic and illegal only proves why these departments shouldn’t exist to begin with.
It's already in court and it looks like the judge is going to put a hold on it until a judgement is made. Ad based on what she wrote, she is not happy with the administrations lack of honesty with them making contradictory claims often in the same day.
You do know that many government agencies public contact or customers service is out sourced to private agencies. All of VA mail is out sourced to one location in Lackland, FL this began 2019.
Federal employees are getting voluntary layoff deals with 8 MONTHS severance? Cry me a river, people…private sector employees rarely get voluntary RIFs, or severance packages.
You can come up with all kinds of hypothetical scenarios to try to justify continuing this bloated inefficient federal government. At the end of the day, the federal government should never have been allowed to become as large as it is and someone has to do something about it. It is not sustainable.

What agencies are doing VERA?
Do Not Take It!
Please STOP SMOKING crack
Thank you for doing this!
Ex. Military and disabled Federal employee. They want us to be Loyal? But have no Loyalty in return for our sacrifices. Trust has been lost. The workforce will not give a damn going forward.

Get ahold of your AO. Young got a good retirement ahead most likely
"They want us to be Loyal? But have no Loyalty in return for our sacrifices. Trust has been lost. The workforce will not give a damn going forward." As a new worker in the federal government and on probation, I don't trust anyone at this point. Keeping my nose to the ground and just work until they tell me different.
I just turned 62, I'm Air Force retired, disabled veteran and I have over 18 years DOD Federal Service. I sent the reply resign and retire before I left work last night. My next shift starts Saturday so I'm not checking email until then. Another coworker did it last week and he immediately went on admin leave. Same situation as mine.
@danacooper6723 That's exactly the proper perspective. Do your best and be proud to have respect and a responsible mindset for your long term goals. It's internal what we take with us. Regardless of the chaos created in our lives.
@@RCourt-fz2mrAlmost the same scenario. But with back surgery putting me out as occupational retired years ago, I'm just wanting to convert. Calls are hung up on. And a password for online access sent to my mailbox 75 miles away is ridiculous. I really need the retirements to move out of this tiny trailer in California to Arizona for the dry healthy weather. Damaged from Covid 4 times and fire smoke , my lungs cannot hand more pneumonia. It's undue stress. Just need it done.
Is this true? Which employees are being targeted? For health insurance, issue needs to be addressed. Please see hybrid health insurance suggested.
When twitter was purchased, what happened to the employees who took their buyout?
Perfect for someone that was contemplating leaving federal civil service or "eligible " for retirement. You must have all your years amd eligibility for retirement. This does not appear to be an "early out " 25, at any age offer as in the 90's but hold on I bet that will still happen as it did in the lare 1990's
Since FEMA workers are considered part time workers. How would this be calculated. Sometimes we work for months at a time, sometimes we don’t work for months at a time. Would our position make a difference in the payout?
Great info, well researched.. thank u sir
Agree with Niatate!!
It's just like Corporate America. If you want to cut costs of running a business, you first offer a way for people to resign and get paid for a period of time. After that, reductions in force help the business reach their cost-cutting goals.
You pay for that health insurance after you retired.
Wow this guy has great hair and beard 🎉🎉🎉
Whoever filed the lawsuit should be at the time of the list for layoff 😮
This so-called expert was obviously biased Instead of just focusing on providing facts.
Then STOP SMOKING crack
Please enlighten us on how he is biased?
I dont believe -them, If you are eligible for retirement, just retire like normal, not using this offer, that they are offering!
I just did😊
Trump is all for show. Every year about 100,000 people leave the federal workforce. Just put a freeze on hiring. But buyout, layoff, and firing make headlines. Trump is all about headlines.
Those who accept this "deal" are getting conned.
In the word of tommy the tiger "That's grrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaat"
I've listened to many reports, but frankly I am confused. After 9/30/25, are these people entitled to unemployment compensation, if they take this package. It looks like at this point, they don't have a choice in the matter to take it, or face termination. Do our federal unemployment laws cover these people or not? no one is talking about that. Considering EMusk's track record with his own company's employees, I would not trust him.
No we won't be eligible for unemployment bc we resigned and if they don't pay immediately we still aren't eligible for unemployment bc they will argue we are still technically employed even if we aren't receiving the pay ..
Good information 😊
What about people overseas, do they have to leave immediately?
The director of the federal government agency I work for announced on Tuesday that he is submitting a blanket waiver to prevent any employee of the agency from participating in the deferred resignation program!
Oh Really! Hmm.
What agency do you operate under?
Cons: layoffs
Actually this reduces the likelihood of layoffs bc people opted to resign instead
If you are a federal worker please don’t do it. It’s a scam.
Why are you all causing intentional harm to your viewers? They will not honor any of their promises.
Very v talented, hardworking and nice people who r eligible for retirement are retiring 😢
Where’s his socks?! 🧦 🧦
He's a colorful guy. Has tan camo or some pattern. Not matching his pants. Not in acceptable uniform standards Ha! Or the massive Hair display.
they knew that out of the 2.3M people only a handful would accept it.
It’s not public service when you paid
No allocated funds for this. So the people are forced to pay against our will.
They don’t define rare cases though
Elon’s out here playing 4D chess-paying for “deferred resignation” like it’s a Black Friday sale on federal employees. He’s basically buying them out, one severance package at a time, and replacing them with AI so advanced it’ll probably start tweeting memes and launching rockets on its own. Welcome to the future, where your new government chatbot might just ask you for a verification code.
Cant wait. Hopefully it will be granted
You have 7 days to resend
As if there are so many jobs opportunities except for farmers and builders ….
Federal workers either do a lot or not at all
Hope they get rid of upper levels too and TERM LIMITS!!!!
It's #SKEWED
Not a dumb question, you should still brush up your resume and be ready to job hunt
Article 1, there is a reason congress created congress first technically they are the most powerful branch of government.
Have you read the constitution? ALL Officers in the federal government are hired by the president. He has the authority.
@@Stealthmuiz Have you read any laws? No, he doesn't - not without cause. The President doesn't hire people, either - the government does. We swear an oath to the constitution, not the freakin' President. God - educate yourself. SMH........
@@Stealthmuiz you mean specifically the executive branch.

❤ Trump
This happens in the private sector all the time. The fact federal workers are calling it anti-democratic and illegal only proves why these departments shouldn’t exist to begin with.
It's already in court and it looks like the judge is going to put a hold on it until a judgement is made. Ad based on what she wrote, she is not happy with the administrations lack of honesty with them making contradictory claims often in the same day.
Scare tactic.
Stop whining. Just getting rid of wasted resources and making the govt smaller. 8 months of pay for nothing is a blessing
…but it violates the Anti-Deficiency Act
Lol. Please STOP SMOKING crack
I think it’s awesome that once Trump got in, I can actually get someone to answer the phone😂
😂 why I took it. I don't need money anyway.
"I DO NOTHING FOR POLITICS. I DO WHAT'S RIGHT," Donald John Trump
Which most people can understand his words are never meant to reflect reality and that is why he rarely testifies in court in his own defense.
There is too much fat in the government jobs. Since most work from home the customer service has dropped. Go into the office!
Go into the office so they can chit chat more by each other cubicle? 😂 cmon lol do you think more work would be done? If any prob less
This isn’t the across the board
😂❤ there's no cons, it's probably duplicate or unnecessary job
Taxpayers are fed up with the IRS
Trump gonna fire all IRS workers and eliminate income taxes. Replace with tariffs
How about the useless Congress?
You can come up with all kinds of hypothetical scenarios to try to justify continuing this bloated inefficient federal government. At the end of the day, the federal government should never have been allowed to become as large as it is and someone has to do something about it. It is not sustainable.
They just need to show up to office. No more work remotely!
So why did the email go out to those already working full-time at the office?
@janetl9984 too much fat in government jobs!
If they are qualified enough they should take the buyout and join the private sector like majority of Americans.
😂😂😂Wonder how many MAGAs getting - FREAKING REAMED 😮
The President is in charge of the executive branch. If he wants to fire every single person in an agency or department he can.
No he can't ... he is NOT a KING!
lol - no, that's not how it works. At all. there are processes that have to be followed, by law.
No, because Congress creates the laws, and there are laws about hiring and firing.
Exactly
@@BobBaker-v9v incorrect. SMH.
