I have had the experience of meeting the Father and seeing his heart for his creation in the book of Matthew 5:38-48 of all places. I was so undone it kept me in the bathroom at work for 1/2 hour in his presence. It is a very real and beautiful experience!
The longing is the visit. It's true. I've felt devastating pain in sacrificing for God and when I got out, I almost wanted to go back in because it was the closest I've been to God. The sweetest love and most fulfilling peace.
It is so good to pursue enjoying Jesus to fuel our discipleship - yes! But, it is also good for us to remember what John Newton hints at when he says "joy in Christ is an eschatological joy to be fully tasted and relished in eternity". Hold these 2 truths together IMO.
Being a admirer of Piper for years, I do ask this question: Many Christians are not as intensely intellectual or emotional as he is. Also, many people, particularly men, don't really read or meditate much or get alot of pleasure out of reading or meditating for instance. How do these fellow Christians accomplish the "joy in Christ" oriented goals to which Piper directs us? Thoughts??
Hey, I got one question :) At 7:26 pastor John mentions that there won't be any hindering anymore to our enjoyment in Christ but I'm not sure if I can find that in 1. John 3. Do know if he meant that passage and if not, do know you which one he meant? Thanks a lot for your podcasts, it is great to see how God speaks to people through you!
Josh Kim I think Pastor John meant 1 John: 2, not verse 3, where it says that we will see Him as He is, unhindered because of the abilities of our new bodies...new spiritual eyes and hearts. Good catch in following up what Pastor John says with checking scripture references for yourself, as I do! LarryS
I would be ever so careful to not bash a preacher called by God. King David did not hurt Saul the king even when he was ordained by God to be a the king because God had anointed him. Even when king Saul was trying to kill him. Read for yourself! 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
He's dragging you to hell away from God's eternal and infinite love. God's infinite power will be displayed through Christ with the final destruction of the devil and his angels in the lake of fire. All those associated with the devil and his controll will face the same fate. Turn to Christ and you will know true power through His infinite love and mercy upon us weak men.
John Piper is a "false prophet" and follows a "false Christ." Jesus said.. "Obey my commandments" and Seek Help from Me..Everyday." John Piper is usurping Jesus. He is a puffed up little god basking in his own importance. Jesus is the One who Helps us see His Beauty. If i had to see Christs beauty like this clown I would give up on Jesus. Please people..Obey Jesus commandments and Go to Jesus for your Help. You are as a stupid sheep following the wrong shepherd.
