  • I just recently finished True Detective and it was truly phenomenal! Rust Cohle's character played by Matthew McConaughey is one of my favorite characters in cinema. I decided to make a video for this character, song is This Feeling by øneheart. I hope you all enjoy the video!

Read "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race" by Thomas Ligotti
its where the dialogue comes from.

@@watchmehope6560not exactly, but nic pizzolato (writer of true detective) took a lot of inspiration from that book

the thousand yard stare coupled with the philosophical caliber of Schopenhauer presents an aesthetic that appeals to the modern day man. The sense of anomie whilst trying to retain the idea of justice is a painful pursuit and one Cohle illustrates all too well.

Best scene in all of TV is the very last scene of the first season. Marty and Rust looking up at the sky, drawing two different conclusions on the end of their investigation. Marty is altered by the trauma of what he's experienced, but Rust only becomes stronger, kinder and wiser by his experience. It's ironic that he's the one sitting down when in his mind, he's standing taller than ever

The best story I've watched in my life.
I watched the first season three times and at the end of this video I'll probably restart the season.
I loved every moment, and in the final part... in the final minutes you're inhuman if your eyes don't water.
Music used is a lonely dance with the Rust's words.
Thanks a lot for this masterpiece, keep going!

Wow thanks a lot! The first season is absolutely amazing. The amount Rust overcomes in the end, it is hard not to tear up. What a wonderful comment, thank you!

I like how he tries to make sense of a senseless world. That's what I get from him.

Superb dialog throughout that season of TD, but this was especially fine. Close call, though, between this, and the exchange between Marty and Rust in the hospital:
    • • •
Rust: (Close to despair) I'm not supposed to be here.
Marty: (A light chuckle) Yeah . . . well . . . I'll come back by tomorrow, buddy. (Starts to back out his wheelchair.)
    Rust: Why?
Marty: Don't ever change, man. (Flips him off)
    Rust: (Returns the gesture)

I love that Rust became a believer/religious in the end. Also Matthew McConaughey said in Lex Fridmans podcast that he personaly found god through this role.
Great edit and God Bless :D

He didn't become religious nor it can be assumed that his perspective on the world changed. He was riding off the high of a NDE. Once reality kicks and kmowing Rust he will rationalize it like he always does everything else. Besides, in the original script Rust and Marty die on Carcosa.
