A guy in high school had the Cougar with that motor. I remember we all thought it was so fast because it had a supercharger until another kid got a GMC Typhoon. During lunch break everyone would go to the industrial park that had nothing in it to drag race. The Typhoon took everybody down.

I had a 90 SC with the 5 spd. I modified it some and it would run really well. But not many people know this but Mercury had a sister to the SC. The Mercury Cougar XR7 from 89 and 90 came with the exact motor and trans options. And I think they were offered in the same exact colors. Not 100% about this but pretty sure. But I think Caleb should get a Mercury Cougar XR7 from 89/90 and show it off. Not many made for sure.
I owned a 91 SC, red with a black Leather interior 5 speed stick and moon roof, I owned it from 91-96 and loved it. It was a very comfortable car and the only difference in feel between 60mph and 120 mph was how fast the scenery was going by. Drove it from California to Indiana when I got out of the Army. When I traded in I got a 94 Lincoln MK VIII. Same basic car much more HP!!

I will add this though, be prepared for what your getting into if you own an original 5.0 example of these, not all mustang stuff fits, they are a blend of foxbody, sn95/new-edge, and taurus parts-wise, I have aprox 20k in mine already and I haven't even touched cosmetics yet other than new headlights. They are definitely not as easy as far as ordering everything from a catalog like a fox and it helps if you do a lot of research( been reading about these since i first rode in one in high school circa '07), this is my second 93 5.0 bird, so I have lot of experience taking them apart that also helps. But you definitely have to want it they are a labor of love.
The Super Coupes were a great car. They were a sport touring car, not a drag car. Handled really well, Fantastic ride, most comfortable seats I've ever ridden in. But remember, it was also a 4000 lb car. That car you were driving looks like it was down on power. Mine would annihilate the tires! From a roll, it was almost as fast as my smaller/lighter 87 Mustang GT. And when I put a smaller pulley on it, it was as fast as my GT. Fast for the day, not today...but a really great car!
I'm telling you right now! If I ever get rich I need this fine gentleman to help my with my 96 lincoln LSC with a 4.6 DOHC cobra. Last year I got caught in a flood and it drank the water and hydrolocked.
My best friend has the same as that car he just bought it and it's making 20 pounds of boost That's what it said when he was riding it on the road in front of very first time and following the speed limit
Those were pretty fast when they were new. I had a 1991 T-Bird Lx Sport. Black on black with the 5.0 H.O.. Of coarse I put the Lx bumpers and trunk lid from a 93' Lx. I like the lights across the deck lid.
For sure a cool car, those cars rode great, yeah they do lack some punch under the hood, but like you said a good platform for a V8 swap with some giddy up. Went to high school with a guy that had a previous model T-bird with a V8 sounded good but was on the slow side.
I will love to see the first gentle lightning.i have 95 gt I built from the ground up i did a 5 speed Swap and rear end out of 01 gt with 410 and Converted my Throttle body to the Fox body style.

A local guy to me has a time capsule Mercury Cougar version of this. I never knew they existed. His is a 5 speed and it looks like new. He said they made 312 of them
Manufacturers didn't do too much thinking back then. Turbos on four bangers and super chargers on v6s and do nothing for v8s. 🙄 I like the T-birds of the late 80s and 90s. Had a 94 with the 4.6. Good reliable motor. Really no performance parts at least back then. Thing i don't like about them and the same goes with GM muscle cars of that era is fake duel exhaust. The underside of the T-birds won't allow you to have true duels unless you want your pipes hanging close to the ground. Would like to get an SC. Saw one for sale a while back for 9-10k
Caleb have a special ordered 93 lx with 5.0ho all doc that I am slowly working on maybe this summer I can send a vid or pic :there is a surprise in this car that definitely SET IT APART FROM THE REST MAN
I bought a 90 SC midnight blue 5-speed in HS in 95', and he missed so much cool stuff on what the SC had. I don't know what was wrong with the one he was driving but it was way faster than that brake torque BS he just did. Most of that smoke was coming from the brakes. I could dump the clutch and put 11s on the pavement. Things he didn't mention. Automatic seat belts, the lights on the sides would light up with the turn signal to light the curb. Auto headlights on/off and auto brights. Automatic rear view mirror that switched when headlights were behind me. Back then mirrors had a manual switch for glare from headlights at night, but the SC was auto. I didn't have the ride switch through, or that badge behind the front tire, and mine had full leather. Ford never put that 6 way power seat in Mustangs because it was from their luxury line. That power seat came from a Mark VIII and only made it into one Ford car, the SC. A neighbor on the street I grew up on came did a pully w/ tune and a 3:73 for me, but no exhaust. I had the fastest car in the parking lot, it was undefeated. That car would bury that PSI gauge at the top center. I don't know exactly how much boost it had but it was well over 15psi. And for the guy with the Typhoon, I easily took that SUV down, along with its sister Cyclone. It destroyed all Mustangs, Z28 IROC, and I even got the chance to race a Firehawk with that tear drop front end it had. The rich kid in school sold his C4 Vette after I walked him in the quarter mile for cash. We estimated it did about 12.5 to 13 second quarter mile. Which was fast at the time. I eventually almost blew the motor after 2 years because of the mods. Had to fix it and sell the car. I miss that car. I've owned a lot of sports cars but a SC is special because it's a sports car with luxury options. This guy missed so many things on that car that were special for that era, that no other cars had.
We have a 90 thunderbird SC with about 85,000 miles. We have a problem where if we drive it and shut it off. It won’t start until it’s completely cooled down. Then you have the automatic shoulder harness which is separate from the seat belt. Another car you almost never see is the ford EXP

Ford intentionally choked back the horse power in this car. Test cars were faster than the mustang and Ford was scared they just created their own version of the grand national.
