Many interesting ideas and ruminations... I find the figure of Orestes to contrast that of Icarus, almost in a reverse bizarro-world sense; also, as a translator, completely agree with your point that a translation, in very few cases, is gonna give you a experience as foreign as the original text, thats the general (and kinda obligatory) consensus in the "translator's community" tho, so that might be an argument against the thesis itself lol. Have you read Le ton beau de Marot? By Douglas Hofstader, one of the best books written about translation... Thx for the content!

Thanks. I'll have to keep an eye out for the Hofstadter. I've got Godel Escher Bach lying around somewhere but keep hearing mixed things about it. Didn't even know he wrote anything else.

@@VersoFolioBooks havent read that one but a friend who im pretty sure fried his brain with acid loves it, take that as you will. Currently studying last year at uni so maybe I exaggerated a bit jajaj, my native language is Spanish and right now I translate everything that I can (I need the money), tho my long term objective is to make a indie bilingual editorial that translates low-key authors from Spanish to English and vice-versa, I'm latinamerican and the quantity of unstranlated hidden gems from the region kinda blows my mind (most of them contemporary although there's an alarming bunch of classics aswell), same with anglo writers, so I'd like to change that even if just by a tiny little bit lol
