Roma is a beating and powerful movie. I cried and cried. Je. It portrays perfectly the every day life in Mexico City at that time. Since I’m the same age Cuarón is, I felt completely identified. Loooooved this movie. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Para mi fue un viaje al pasado increíble, tengo 49 años y crecí en la col.del valle,nápoles,el cine al que iba era el cine las americas, nose como logró recrear insurgentes de los 70,s,buenisima pelicula, empecé a verla acostado en mi cama,y termine sentado en la orilla sintiendo escalofríos.buen video guys, and you have to go to eat in col.del valle to LOS CHAMORROS,and 99.99 yucatecan food, better than yucatán
One memory as child in Mexico in the 90s on Friday nights we'd stay in the street until midnight, sitting on the edge of the sidewalk in the midstreet, eating gorditas that we bought from a street vendor in the corner of our street and a glass bottle coca cola, joking, laughing, telling ghost stories... Good memories. I'm from Nezahuacoytl, Mexico. We're like literally divided by an Avenue from D.F. Currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota!!
Just watched Roma last night. I loved it very much. Very artistic, great cinematography, poetic. Loved the way story builds up. Acting was great. Enjoyed watching 1971 Mexico city. One of the best movies of this year. Happy holiday to you guys!
Me encantó!
My life and almost every other middle class families. It brought a lot of memories growing up in Coyoacán and Tlalpan at that time. Living the reality of an unsettled country with the protests of the students my oldest sister loosing her semester because they took over UNAM getting cough in downtown in a fight between the police and the students just incredible, the cars, the sounds, children running in the streets and the girls working at my house they work for my family until they retired we still in touch with them they were part of our family they cry and laugh with us is just unreal I think is why we like this movie so much because it brings all that back I love it all together!
It’s great to see Mexican cinema back and better than ever since Amores Perros y Tu Mamá También debuted in the early 2000’s. The 1990s saw some good Mexican films like Como Agua Para Chocolate and Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas as well. Mexican cinema had a golden age in the 1940s through the 1960s. It was dying in the late 1970s and 1980s with movies featuring Alfonso Zayas and La India María (although they were funny and somewhat risqué) now it’s back with great film making. Roma looks like a fantastic film.
Happy to see Mexican directors making such high qualities films. There were too many years that movies live "la risa en vacciones" were being pumped out. Alfonso Cuarón & Alejandro González Iñárritu among others have really elevated Mexican Cinema.
Absolutely! I love the minds creating this amazing new era in Mexican cinema, but I'm not gonna lie, I have great memories of watching La Risa en Vacaciones, with my family. 😋
Beautiful work and very interesting opinion, that was the Mexico of my memories, I love my country but it has changed in many ways. But Mexico still having charm 👏🏻🇲🇽❤️
Roma is a very good movie But some foreigners may see it in some way And Mexican see it different Their are somethings in the movie that only Mexicans can identify or understand Or if you lived or vin to Mexico can Relate it or understand Like the camote vendor if your haven’t vin to Mexico/ lived you won’t know what it is or other little things like that
I think it is an universal feeling, meaning all over the world kids and families grow along a maid who actually raised the children and "become" part of the family. No much Mexico as the specific place but those women helpers that become part of our lives and that just like other human being with their own problems.
Amazing. Guys your reaction is really awesome. Always you have a special way to make your work. Both of you are not the tipical youtuber guy is very clear. Both of you go further you maked the detail reseach about the film and the video itself. Keep it up. Great job.
guys you are so good in whats your doing, your videos are very addictive.! I discovered your channel just few days ago and cant stop watching you. thanks for sharing Mexico to the world! by the way I"m Mexican and you make me feel proud for being it, sorry the english is not mine native language.
I just watched the movie yesterday. It’s cool to see your video about it today. I think it is generally a good movie from a cinematographic and artistic point of view and may appeal to a wide audience around the world. But you are right, for those of us who grew up in that very neighborhood and or anywhere in Mexico City, it is significantly more impactful. It takes us into an incredibly realistic trip down memory lane with every amazing detail, from the camoteros to the afiladores on the mundane side, to the very realistic and incredibly intimate relationships between household staff and the families they served. And beyond that, when one thinks about that era, despite the turbulence and some of the violence that took place, one can’t help but feel proud. That era marked Mexico’s true transition into modernity. And despite the relatively despotic reign of the PRI for many years, many brave Mexicans worked tirelessly and often perilously to prevent the country from ever falling into frank dictatorship as many other Latin American countries did. With great sacrifice then and hopefully with less so now, Mexico has and will continue to be a country where people can be free and pursue their desired brand of happiness.
I used to stay with my aunt in Roma Norte back in the mid 70's whenever I would visit. Right on calle Medellin and I can attest to the deja-vu I felt while watching the film. Very authentic.
Awesome video! New subscriber here, born and raised in Los Angeles but both of my parents were born in Mexico City. I’ve visited throughout the years and I can’t wait to go back. Love your channel, thank you!
Thanks to your recommendation (and vlog), I watched this amazing, intimate film last night, and was totally blown away. I watch a fair amount of films each month, and I have to say that this is one of the best that I have viewed in many, many months. Thank you. Thank you.
The movie is amazing .... the fact that there’s barely dialogues it gives everyone a different perspective and it makes you feel more connected , for all of my paisanos yes the sounds are sooo nostalgic especially for the ones that can’t go back .... loved it !
ROMA it´s a great movie and I don´t say it because I'm Mexican, some anecdotes that my elder uncles talked to me came to life when I saw this movie and that makes this film one of my favourites ever...................... hey Mr. and Mrs. Kinetic Kennons you made a good searching and investigation work now you´re ready to find the true about JFK.......................... just kidding my friends ha! ha!
Saludos !!!
It’s funny because this video in itself looks as artistic and beautiful as the movie did. Congratulations Kennons, I loved that you made it black and white that was a nice touch!! And that y’all took the time to research those amazing facts about the movie, it made it all the more interesting and endearing now that I know those facts and how it affected positively to the people living in Col. Roma. And stop saying you are foreigners, for a long time now you have been more Mexican than me, keep up the good work as always!! Best regards!!!
Great video guys. I am Mexican and lived my early years in Mexico. I moved to the States when I was eight. The sounds, I’m glad you picked up on that as I remember them and the smells from my beautiful native country. Again thank you so much!
There is music in the movie, coming out of the radio, and it is the exact songs and sounds from 1970. Actually, that was the first nostalgic detail I found on Roma. Great review, guys!!
You guys totally read my mind . I was just thinking about somebody from RUclips making a tour video of all the different locations and sites Cuarón used to film Roma and there you are... kudos to you 👍👍👍
Great detective work, guys! I loved Roma-have watched it three times already and found something new and admirable every time. I know I’m going to watch it again. You’re right-it captures the sights and sounds of Mexico City and Colonia Roma almost perfectly. Oh, I also loved that you went with black & white for your video too. 👍 😀
As a Mexican Living in the USA this movie brought great memories back to me and my family !!! I am 28 and grew up in that same neighborhood "LA ROMA" actually a few blocks away at aguascalientes street , it's funny my cousin tagged me and thought that was the house we grew up in . What's incredible is how much I and my family could relate as this portrayed a middle class family growing up in the 70's in the ROMA, and that is exactly how my mother and her brothers and sisters were raised. My grandparents owned a very popular restaurant called "Cafe 5 de Mayo" in downtown and was there for decades , it's now "mercaderes" a very popular restaurant downtown , they lived a very good life and my grandma was a stay at home mom to 5 kids in that neighborhood and they went on a lot of vacations to incredible destinations like in the movie and like in your show . I grew up in the 90's in that same neighborhood and loved every bit of it, we even had a maid sometimes that stayed with us , her name was "Chonita" she was and indigenous woman from Chiapas and we all had a great connection with her like she was family . Oh how i miss Mexico sometimes, thank you for sharing your thoughts and views . If you want to hear more about cafe 5 de mayo this gentleman tells a bit of history about it and how it became mercaderes min 1:34 ruclips.net/video/q7wU1ekHm8s/видео.html
Congrats you pulled it !!! Thank you !! My personal opinion for those who think it's "boring", could be, because they are so contaminated by films full of violence, great technology effects but nothing real life, thrillers expecting adrenalin(e) through the whole movie instead of relaxing and being able to recognize a true life story of another decade, simple minds and not to mention the great work of the cinematographer. A great movie to recognize and pay tribute to loving indigenous nannys and live in housekeepers through time. I loved it, it touched me in so many ways, thank God for good cinema and mexican talents like Cuaron, Iñarritu and G. del Toro and others before them !! 👐🇲🇽👏👏👏
I'm mexican and currently living in the US I really like your videos guys and your movie review described exactly what I felt about the movie, by thr way I just became a patreon just to see my name at the end of your videos mwahaha
Thank you! guys. I'm glad you have a great time enjoying Mexico. I bet that persons like you are welcomed in any part of the world where you decide to go.
I remembered my grandmothers with this movie, even when they did it during the 40s. The house of the movie reminded me the house of my sister in law's mother, and how my grandmother did not attend an event with her family because she had worked in that neighborhood back in the day and she was afraid to be recognised and that my brother would receive negative comments or even being rejected. My family history is more the untold story of Cleo's family than Cuarón's family but loved the film. The work of those women made me what I am today, they learned to read and write as grown ups, when I had the chance to have an MA, study in Europe (scholarship) trilingual, and do things they were not even allowed to dream.
Hahaha. You guys are hilarious! Somehow I was expecting your review of the movie since I assumed you might have liked it but you went way beyond in your investigator skills. That's why you are my favorites and why I love you guys so much. So, let me tell you. I am a 43 yo. guy born in 1976 and raised in Mexico City who happened to spend my early days living in Roma neighborhood (Tabasco St. to be exact). I did not belong to a wealthy family at all. In fact, my family was pretty dysfunctional and different to what families used to be back in the 70's-80's. I was the only child of a single working mother (for 6 years until my other 2 brothers came) who was a sales woman and used to work in Nuevo Leon Ave. You have to understand that was a very different Mexico and a very different Mexico City too. Back in the days a random family was composed by the father (Who used to be out all day for work), the mother (who took care of the house duties) and the kids who could be from 3 to 5 in number (or even more). Those times where very innocent and naive and it was vary rare to find a family where the head of it was a single working mother. I remember I was often questioned by other kids about my father. Where was he? was he dead? Were my parents divorced? At 5 I did not have the answers to those questions. I remember spending most of my days in kinder garden from 9 am to 7 pm when the school transportation took me to my mom's office where I was delivered and then she and I went home by taxi or subway. I remember clearly every sound and every smell from our way from Insurgentes metro station to our small apartment in the "vecindad" we used to live in. I remember the wet clothes hanging after being washed, the kids playing in the vecindad´s patio, the "camote guy", the "knife sharpener man" (afilador), the old "delfines" (dolphins) and "whales" (ballenas) buses before they became the extinct ruta 100. I remember stoping with my mom to eat at the "Flautas Beatriz" stand in Glorieta de Insurgentes and attending to my first music concert in that glorieta too ( It was the spanish kids duo Enrique and Ana) this should have been around 1981. But I remember clearly the Impalas and the Galaxies, the VW's sedans and vans (combis) later would came the LTD's and the Grand Marquis. It was a very innocent times where kids could play in the streets without being in risk of getting kidnaped, the biggest concerned of people about leaving their homes to go to home or school was to have their wallet stolen in the bus. But then all that changed after the 1985 earthquake. Chaos took power of the city and many people became rude and selfish and untrustful of strangers, those were very difficult times that led citizens of Mexico City to lose our innocence. The entire city was destroyed. (it took 2 decades to rebuild it), there was a lack of services in general (electricity, gas, pure running water, communications). The city was very hurt and the scars were not healing easy. We all lost a loved one or knew of someone who have lost a dear one on that tragic September 19th. Enough is enough (I think I should start making my own movie) but now I understand why this movie is becoming so popular among audiences around the world. Because of the magic of its narrative that transports you to certain time and place even when you haven't physically been there in your life. Let alone in you actually have been in that time and place. I remember being 12 in 1988 and watching that fabulous tv show "The Wonder Years". It was a very similiar scenario to what is going on with "Roma in the present time. I happened to have the same age of the main character in the show although the time was settled 20 years before! But I remember loving (and living) it as if I was part of that time and place (the USA in the late 60's) . I could just relate to so much of what the characters were going through and same thing happened to a whole generation around the world.

The funny thing is those movies in the 80's like Juan camaney, los verduleros and many more were a hit in theaters and generated alot of money.

We watched it earlier this week. From the very first scene it catches life in Mexico.
Thank you guys, I saw the movie and that was amazing how you can live the old times back on your parents childhood. I really love Roma movie
How cool is that!!! Definitely planning to go and watch that one 👍
definitely worth a watch!
Cool idea to make this video in black and white. My favorite movie would be another one filmed in b &w, Schindler's list.
Great video guys. I am Mexican and
lived my early years in Mexico. I moved to the States when I was eight. The sounds, I’m glad you picked up on that as I remember them and the smells from my beautiful native country. Again thank you so much!
Well done you guys and a great take on the film and superb location stuff. I just about lost it when they stepped onto Insurgentes!
Roma para el oscar👏👏👏🎥🎬🏆
TOTALMENTE!!!!💖💕💖
Para mi ya es ganadora!!!
CUARÒN ES GENIAL💕💖
FELICIDADES PARA TODO MEXICO!!!!! 💖💕
There is music in the movie, coming out of the radio, and it is the exact songs and sounds from 1970. Actually, that was the first nostalgic detail I found on Roma. Great review, guys!!
You guys totally read my mind . I was just thinking about somebody from RUclips making a tour video of all the different locations and sites Cuarón used to film Roma and there you are... kudos to you 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video amigos.nice video.god bless ya..gracias...
What a great job you guys have done making this video! BIG CONGRATULATIONS, AND KEEP GOING ON!! 🎉 🎊
I watch your videos all the time before going to sleep and I enjoy them so much 😁 just wanted to let y’all know.
Great work guys. Thank u.
thanks amigo!

I love your deep review on Roma. You who have lived in Roma know and feel exactly what the film tries to portrait.

we are going to watch this on the weekend...we are staying in Roma in Feb....can't wait...great vid guys :)
I practiced my Enlish with you. I loved Rome. Saludos.
Que buenos críticos son!!! Y se acompañan muy bien. :). Excelente trabajo como siempre
Magnífica idea y bien realizada , un Oscar a éste review.
It was great to see you take us viewers to all the places we recognize from the movie!
Saludos mis amiguitos Kennons!!
