Thank you for all your content. I am an avid crocheter. I agree with the previous comments. The stitch your doing is a US single crochet, a UK double crochet. ❤
I have never personally liked the Magnolia Bloom, but yours looks lovely on you! I think most of it is how good that color is for you. Congrats on finishing it.
Tash I love your grey sweater. I think it looks fabulous on you. And I love the colour on you so I was surprised when you said that you thought the colour didn’t suit you. I also think the fit is great on you.
Your Magnolia Bloom is a stunner and looks terrific on you! I love your new segment about pieces that didn't quite make the grade for whatever reason. (I finish things too....love the closure.) I'm so touched by the fact that you wear the socks you made for your dad....very sweet. I knit a sweater for my dad in 1973 (!) which I got back after he died. I just gave it away to my best friend, for whom it's a better fit and he knew my dad. Knitting is so much more than stitches and garments.
Thanks so much Hilda. Yes - there is so much care and thought that goes into a hand knitted item made for a loved one. There are all these memories and thoughts attached to it. x
Your work is lovely. Always love your podcasts! Your stitch in the crochet basket is a US single crochet. When you yarn over before you go in an pick up another, you will have a US half-double or double depending on whether you pull through all at once or two at a time.
The Magnolia Bloom is gorgeous! The color is so rich & complex, and looks good on you. I was on vacation last week and came across a yarn store that carried Knitting for Olive, which I’ve been wanting to try after seeing all the lovely projects you have used it in. I plan to make an Oslo hat using Merino & Soft Silk Mohair in the blue tit colorway.
Made me chuckle - you get ‘substantial’ leave for teaching service…Last year I completed my 25th year teaching Chemistry in UK. My long service ‘award’?! ONE DAY off!! And I still have to plan all the missed lessons😂 I’m still really looking forward to it but it’s really interesting to see how much more Aussie teachers are valued than British teachers. Brilliant podcast, as always. I’m currently knitting the Wool&Berries after you inspired me a few weeks ago! 🥰
Thanks so much Claire. I cant believe that is all the extra leave you get. We get 12 weeks after 10 years and 2 weeks for every year after that. I'm so sorry to hear that there is not provision for this in the UK. I hope you are enoying your Wool & Berries. I love mine so much. :)
To make a crocheted item stand up perpendicular to the base, the circumference of the sides needs to be equal to the circumference of the last increase on the base. Knitting is what it is all about. I love the Magnolia Bloom in that colour is beautiful. Two new knits The Fjolla and Jupiter Crop are very interesting. I have downloaded the pattern for the hat you are currently knitting. Go with hour beart regarding the book about Stash busting. You have so many plans for future knits you impress me. Take Care ❤😊
You do beautiful work, and everything looks lovely on you. The Magnolia Bloom and the color are stunning. Your Narragansett looks fabulous. The good news is that you have the figure to show it off. There's a few ways you could style it & coordinate it with other items. Of course, you will make the final decision as to its fate. Hope you have a wonderful holiday 😊
Lovely knits and beautiful colors. We have such similar tastes. I love seeing how you use color. I am working on being more adventurous with my colors and yarn weights. This will be my year of color work.
Thank you so much Stephanie. I often end up having a theme in a year without even meaning to. Hope you enjoy the colorwork. It is a lot of fun to create. :)
Your Magnolia Bloom is beautiful and you worked out the yarn management very well. I wish I had your ability to match leftover stuff to a container. I pretty bad at that😄 I totally agree with you about car shopping. It’s very stressful and I always feel like other people are good at getting a lower price.
Hi Tash..just watching you do a half treble or like others mentioned, single crochel in US...thanks for keeping me entertained this morning Always lovely to see what youre up to, young lady. I am making a quick, first Lento, also alternating melted baby suri handyed so no pooling from now on. Good to keep the occassional eye out on destash platforms..I bought some lovely malabrigo a while back. Have a good day and weekend.x🤞
Tash, I am relatively new to your channel and thoroughly enjoying your creative journey. In the discussion of your Jupiter sweater you said you’ll be blocking the yoke before separating for the sleeves. I was hoping you might share your approach to determining when to separate for the sleeves and if you almost always block your yoke at this point. To me determining the right depth of the yoke is one of the important decisions in the construction of a top down yoke sweater. Many thanks. Debbie
Hi Debbie - thank you for the request to touch on this concept. I'll be sure to talk about that in an upcoming podcast. I do usually block at this point, especially if i think it is going to grow. :)
As always, I love seeing all of your projects and progress. I’ve made some crochet baskets very similar to yours, patterns by Rebecca Langford. You use something called plastic canvas that you cut to size and then fold the material over to form the firm basket sides. It looks like plastic cross-stitch material. She has excellent tutorials also!
My first podcast episode from you. I like it and will watch your old episodes too. Maybe you could add an elastic band to the Jupiter Crop? You can always knit it again if it doesn’t help.
Your magnolia Bloom is gorgeous, such a warm colour. It looks amazing on you. There's a big difference compared to the grey one. Thank you for a wonderful podcast. Too bad about the concert. Let's hope they get to finish their tours soon.
Hi, I always learn so much from your channel, thank you for sharing. I had a thought when you shared about your Narragansett by Thea Colman. You stated that you really didn’t care for the color grey on you. Then it came to me that earlier you had shared that you just purchased another grey, the Orange Flower MCN Sport for the Sellwood Tee. I hope that you enjoy this Sellwood Tee in grey.
Thank you so much for that thought Tamara. I wonder if it depends on the type of gray. I am going to put this up against my face and see if i think it suits. :)
I love and look forward to your weekly podcasts, always so joyful.. Have you thought about Stephen Wests MKAL if you’re thinking of casting on a new shawl? X
Thank you so much Lynne. I have realised that i am not so good with Mystery KALs. I like to know what i am signing up for. I found out the gender of all my kids before birth - i think i dont like surprises! ;)
😂… I’m interested in learning any new techniques he comes up with then tend to go a bit ‘off piste’ with modifications.. interested in what he comes up with for just two shades with mohair option..
Interesting yout talk about the tubular bind off. I did a tubular bind off for the first time and decided for the yarn I was using, it wasn't worth the time. So did cuffs and hem with regular bind off. The same decision you are making.
It can be a really nice choice for a smooth yarn. And i like it for a yarn held with mohair. But for this yarn held double, i think the regular bind off will look nicer. I think at some point i will go back and change the neckline. :)
The Narragansett sweater looks really nice, I would pull it out and reknit it, a bigger size, no decreases, and shorter. The yarn looks beautiful. I know a huge job. Just an idea
Thank you so much Lesley. I think that is a great idea. I just would find it hard to execute when i have some many other things i am more excited about knitting....
P.S: my grandmother used to make baskets and dipped in a starch/sugar solution then moulded over a form to the desired shape but Im sure RUclips would have lots of tips..something we didnt have years ago.
Your episode today has cheered me up. I'm travelling for nearly 3 months away from NZ throughout Europe, England and Canada and only been away for 3 weeks. Airlines have lost our bags twice now, and today I'm hiding in my accommodation while the clothes I travelled in dry. Hopefully the bags arrive before the next leg of our trip. Thankfully I have knitting with me 😊 What would l do without some knitting to do?
Hi Anne - how awful to have lost your bags twice! I am so glad you had your knitting with you. You have reminded me to pack some emergency clothes (and my swimmers) in my carry on for when we go to Bali, just in case!
@mostlyknitting Yes, really wishing I had my togs in my small carry-on backpack! But I do have my toilet bag and medication and knitting! The really important stuff.
As for the Narragansett knit I thought it looked fine on you. Firstly you do like the yarn but if you really can't be bothered to unwind the yarn I would put it out to someone and gift it. Have the person pay for the postage. Life is too short, moving it on to another knitter and just focus on all your lovely knits that you are excited to cast on. Go girl! The Magnolia looks splendid!
Your Magnolia Bloom turned out beautiful! I don't think I would have ever noticed any colour difference if you hadn't mentioned it. For your grey sweater - if you were willing to frog it I think it would turn into a lovely oversized slipover especially with the addition of mohair. Maybe a dark grey? I have been wearing mine a lot with either a fitted long sleeve t-shirt or a button up shirt underneath. Peititeknit (Kimmi Munkholm) also has a tutorial for button holes in a double knit button band without cutting the yarn. I used it and it's perfect!
Thanks so much Ursula. That is so interesting that Petite Knit has a video on this, but still has one up for the Chamagne Cardigan where you cut the yarn. I agree that this sweater could look lovely oversized with a mohair. But i fear i would run out of yarn as 4 skeins is not a lot of yarn in this base....
Your single crochet stitch is too limp for a basket. A much smaller hook for tighter work makes for a firmer fabric.Thick and tight is good. I use a wire hoop at the edge of the circle base, (crochet around it and then straight up. I make lots of these and often just a big flat circle will use up a lot of scraps quick making a fun throw rug. Love the new sweater, it inspired me to buy purple yarn and the pattern.
I think you could wear the grey Thea Colman sweater with a scarf around your neck. A scarf in a colour that you think does suit you. I'm not sure how it would look with short sleeves and it is worsted. Perhaps shorten it as well. Thanks for a great podcast.
Hi Tash. Tks for your fun and informative podcasts. With your boat neck, negative ease jumper I think shortening it and the sleeves is a good idea as then you would not need to wear anything under it. Just one thing, would it be too hot to wear in weather where you would have short sleeves? Would elbow length or 3/4 be better. Can’t remember what you said about the yarn base. As I live 400km North of you, I would only want cotton, silk or linen in a short sleeved top. Hope you can resurrect it.
How about wearing the fitted grey sweater over a crisp white collared shirt however with the sleeves and length shortened. the white shirt hanging a little lower that bottom of sweater for a sporty look. here in Canada many of us wear short sleeve wool "sweaters" over long sleeve shirts or even turtle necks in the fall
I really like that look. Given it is top down, that would be a reasonably quick fix. Just have to reknit the ribbing though. I might try it on over a collared shirt and fold it up a bit and see what i think. Thanks for the suggestion :)
For your Narragansett that you never wear you are probably better to frog or give away. If it's worsted it would probably still be hard to wear in any temp. Shame though as it's a very pretty design. I'm not personally a colourwork knitter but your Jupiter crop is gorgeous! You picked the perfect colours for your skin tone.
I hope you have an easier time buying a new vehicle than I did. I started looking in March. Was hoping to test drive in June. There were no vehicles on the lots of the type I wanted and it is a 500 km trip to the nearest town thst has car dealerships. Ended up having my h7sband sit my friends toyota 4 runner to see if that would work, went to town in june and otdered the vehicle. I don't know if it has come in yet, but in August the dealership had one thst someone else didn't yakecwhen it came.. May have been job problems. Wasn't the colour I ordered but we got it. PHEW! My h7dband is in his 80's and no longer driving and I had 2 old vehicles to get go town to trade in.. Thank goodness for grown children. Am loving my new vehicle, but 7 months to get a nee vehicle.
Wow - i hope it wont take me that long. We have a son who will be getting his licence soon and i would like for him to be able to drive to school as it takes forever by public transport where we live.
Just a thought - I think the gray sweater color is not bad on you - I think you should frog it and make a V-neck so the color is not quite as close to your face and crop it - I think you could wear it over a button up white shirt or even a vest or slip over as you call them, would look beautiful over a white crisp linen shirt.
I do understand the excitement about going on a knitting retreat, or knitting cruise even. Those events have been popping up in quite some numbers over the last 3 years. I also like to meet and chat and knit and be with likeminded people, just having fun. Still, most of these events are awfully expensive, and I guess it's 95% of us knitters will never have the funds to attend one. The funny thing is: Nobody talks about that fact. As if having no money was a tabu. Beside the fun and excitement, I am arguing that those events are devisive. This would bother me less if they weren't praised and marketed via almost every knitting channel, which emphasizes even more the money gap. - Do I sound like a moralist & party pooper? If I do, you can always ignore my comment :)
You don't sound like a party pooper at all. It is a fact of life that money can be a barrier in many different pursuits. And often in life we have periods where we have more disposable spending money and periods where we have less. Thankfully money is usually not a complete barrier to the craft itself. Yarn comes in a range of prices. As for gatherings, i like to mention that there are meetups and retreats that are far less expensive. The one i went to for my Guild was relatively inexpensive and it was made a little cheaper for me as i taught a class there. That doesnt mean that there isnt a place for the expensive ones. For some people, it is a huge treat for them as say a 50th birthday present. For others, they could afford to go every year. For some, it may never be affordable. But that doesnt usually mean there is nothing at all that is affordable. We may just have to look a little harder to find it. I find Guild retreats are usually within many people's budgets.
Hi there. I have never actually knit one in DK. Sport is the heaviest weight i went and I found that i preferred the fingering weight ones so i didnt try DK.
Have you ever tried Anke's Invisible bind off for 1x1 rib? ruclips.net/video/TaBwcX8estY/видео.html . This is my go to bind off now for hems/cuffs. I have tried the sewn bind a few times, but hate dragging the 4x worth of yarn back and forth on a tapestry needle.
@@mytrueserenity5666 I compared a tee I finished with a sewn bind off only (no set up rounds) and the bind off mentioned above. In my opinion, they have have a similar stretch. Hard to quantify stretchiness; it is in the eye of the beholder ; )
I just love your videos and how you speak to your audience. So friendly and informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much. x

You might just wear a bright colored scarf with your grey sweater for a pop of color. Skinny scarves are all the rage.
Your Magnolia Bloom is just magical. Love all your projects and yarn choices!

What you are doing is single crochet in U.S. terms. I really enjoy your podcasts!
Thank you so much Karen. :)
Your work is lovely. Always love your podcasts! Your stitch in the crochet basket is a US single crochet. When you yarn over before you go in an pick up another, you will have a US half-double or double depending on whether you pull through all at once or two at a time.
And in the UK, it would be called a double crochet, so I imagine that's likely what it would be called in Australia as well?
Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much :)
I have finally caught up with your video from last week. Love all the tips along the way. ❤
Thank you so much Maryann. xx
Hi Tash. Your Magnolia Bloom is lovely 🥰 well done!
Thanks so much 😊
Looking lovely in that violet magnolia bloom. Beautiful work! Your WIPs are so pretty. I love that Isabelle Kramer sweater!!
Thank you so much Evie. x
Great podcast! Your Magnolia bloom sweater came out beautifully! 💜
Thank you so much Catherine! 😊 x
@@mostlyknitting I always learn so much from your podcasts. 🥰🥰Thank you
The Magnolia Bloom is gorgeous!
Thanks so much Cindy. I hope you really enjoy working with the yarn and making that hat. I think it is a beautiful pairing. :)
Your sweater looks really good. Love the way it fits you.
Thank you so much Nadine. x

@@mostlyknitting Wow!🤩👍
To make a crocheted item stand up perpendicular to the base, the circumference of the sides needs to be equal to the circumference of the last increase on the base. I used it on Organza to make a crown of upright "flames" for a costume.
Thank you so much Jillian. I really appreciate the suggestion of that product. I'll give that a go. :)

I meant to say vest! If you knit with mohair on a larger gauge without sleeves it should be enough yarn?
Ah sorry - i missed that you said slipover. Actually - that could totally work. It would be quite a large gauge. But that is definitely a good option.
The grey jumper could perhaps become a vest with a vneck and you could wear a better coloured shirt underneath.
Thank you so much - having it away from my face might be a good solution. :)

Thank you so much - yes - I think the worsted nature of the yarn and the weight of it would make it a challenge in a top...
Crochet stitch is single crochet. The braid thing is slip stitch. To make it less floppy, go down one or two hook sizes.
Thank you so much - i am going to give that a go. x
Thank you so much Sheri. :)
In the US we call that stitch a “single crochet “.
Thank you! :)
For your basket, your doing a USA single or a UK double, which is the same stitch.
Thank you so much Loretta. x
While watching this episode I am binding of the body’s of my Zweig using the Xiaowi bind off on 1/1 ribs and it is quite a discovery
I havent heard of that. I'll have to look it up. :)
@corteofs Couldn’t find anything with that name. 🤔 Maybe a typo?
Crochet bag, I think if it's crochet in a tighter gauge ( smaller hook ) it will stand up by its self. Than it will be a basket.
Thanks so much x
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I think it isnt working as it is but the yarn has potential. :)
Have you ever thought of putting some of your knitting skill into French braids in your hair? It would be gorgeous with your heart shaped face. 😊
Thank you so much Lillian. I can braid other people's hair but unfortunately not my own... :)
"Narragansett by Thea Colman" ah, yes. I remember 2008. Maybe you just need to put 3 talk tops under it? or wear a mini vest over it? 😂
Styles were definitely different then. ;)
Your crochet stitch is a single crochet in Canada -- I think double crochet in UK.
Thank you so much Paula. :)
I have a question on your Musselburgh hats. Have you ever knit one in dk? If so, what size needles did you use? Thank you.
Hi there. I have never actually knit one in DK. Sport is the heaviest weight i went and I found that i preferred the fingering weight ones so i didnt try DK.
US single crochet; UK double crochet.
Thanks so much :)
Single crochet - US terms. Double crochet - British/Europe terms.
Thank you so much. :)
Sc ..single crochet AMERICAN STYLE
Thank you so much Sheila. :)
It looks like that is just a single crochet stitch.
Thank you so much. :)
How stretchy is it?
@@mytrueserenity5666 I compared a tee I finished with a sewn bind off only (no set up rounds) and the bind off mentioned above. In my opinion, they have have a similar stretch. Hard to quantify stretchiness; it is in the eye of the beholder ; )
@@dnordfors5845 I appreciate the reply! :-)
Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will be sure to check it out. :)
@@mostlyknitting Also forgot to mention earlier that your Magnolia Bloom is just beautiful! Love the color choice.
Crazy question - why do you men by walking projects ?
Hi Eva - Just projects that i can work on when i go for a walk. :)
