6 Ways to Fix your Faulty Nintendo Wii U Touch Screen

- Hi, this video shows you 6 things that may fix a Wii U touch screen which is not working or is not calibrated properly.
I have listed the 6 ways below so you can see the time that each part starts:
0:37 - STEP 1 - Place the Wii U away from interference.
2:18 - STEP 2 - Reset the Analogue Sticks.
3:22 - STEP 3 - Remove the Screen Protector.
3:49 - STEP 4 - Remove Debris from the edge of the screen.
6:40 - STEP 5 - Calibrate the Wii U Gamepad touch screen.
8:51 - STEP 6 - Reboot your Nintendo Wii U Console.
Hopefully one of the steps above will fix the problem. You do not have to do them in order as shown above, for example don't remove the screen protector (if you have one) until you have done some of the easy steps in case resetting the analogue sticks or removing interference fixes the problem.

The dusting/cleaning around the screen edges WORKED!!! We were sure it wouldn't, because the problem seemed to be with many buttons as well as the screen. Hooray!! Thank you!

A rubber pry tool and a sonicare toothbrush just worked for me. Had a lot of grime built up. I used the rubber pry tool to create slight uplift on the shell from the screen, and then used the sonicare. Took a bit of guess and check, but I eventually found the problem spot and it works like new now. Thanks!

Worked with the brush and run my finger nail around top edge and look at dust on back fans on console they were really dusty thanks for video

I got another option: ejecting a game disc (example Mario Kart Wii) and putting it back in.

OMG! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I used a guitar pick and a toothbrush and it worked. My d pad and both control sticks are now all working too!

I know this is an old video, but it helped me out. I purchased a gamepad, that was advertised as non-functioning from ebay for $40. I used the toothbrush method and it worked like a charm and was a screaming ebay deal for me!

After periodically trying the toothbrush method for the last and a half or so, to not much avail, I finally took the plunge and went for the sharp knife method instead. Thanks Vince for sticking me in the right direction, finally got the screen working again!

I've found that opening the back plate and disconnecting / reconnecting the battery on the controller sometimes makes everything work better.

I was about to give up but then read the several comments about the toothbrush trick working so I continued another 3 or 4 times now using as one poster commented my fingernail to open up a little more space for the brush..I now have touch screen back but will continue to see if I can get all left buttons and controls working as well. Took off the screen protector fixed it for me. The protector just had a small dent that was messing everything up.

Back in June my son did something to our gamepad that caused it not to function at all… You could push the power button and it would come on and you could look at the screen but you couldn’t poke any of the things or move the cursor around with the directional pad or press any of the buttons for it to do anything
I thought it was completely beyond hope and was looking around for a replacement… That was back in June and now here we are mid November
For whatever reason I decided to dig the gamepad back out and see if there was anything else I could do to try and revive it so I wouldn’t have to put a big chunk of our Christmas money on replacing this game pad thing
I tried all of the steps that you suggested and a toothbrush one actually seem to be the most beneficial!
The gamepad is a little bit buggy still but I think may be a few more go arounds with the toothbrush might actually work we’ve tried recalibrating it and it works but then it starts acting funny again… Regardless you’ve at least extended the usefulness of the gamepad a weed bit longer
I purchased the system second hand off of Amazon last Christmas so I’m not entirely surprised that we’re having a little bit of difficulty with some of the hardware… I’m not sure what my son did to it I think maybe he might’ve got some food stuck up in there or something I don’t know anyway both of the kids were really happy to wake up this morning and see me fiddling around with it so thank you again! Hi, if the screen is not responsive on some parts of the screen, and I wanted to fix/replace the screen, would it be the "digitizer" screen, or the LCD screen that would be faulty? These things are sold separately on Ebay and Ali-Express, not sure which one I should get, or even both to fix the problem. Thank you

I figured out that if a wii u has been used for a long time a lot of hand grime will build up between the screen and the plastic, eventually pressing against the screen making it think that you are pressing it.
You can fix this by getting a toothbrush with some isopropyl alcohol and brushing against the area where the screen and plastic meet.
Or preferably you could take it apart and clean the screen manually with q tips.
If the touch is still weird after that you can always go to the system settings and re calibrate the touch pad. (this is what happened to me and it worked)

I'm having an issue with mine. My touch screen is not working and the system has been reset. In order to sync the gamepad I need to tap the symbols witch show on the big screen. I've replaced the lcd screen and the digitizer and still don't work. Help please
i just took the battery out the chat pad for 1 min and put it back in and it works good
Unfortunately, the Wii U i just purchased from someone on marketplace has an analog stick issue. For example, when you turn the console on, it's as if someone is holding the right analog stick up and to the right. If you perform the reset (holding down a, b, plus, and minus) they then work normally as they should, however, each time I turn the console on it goes right back to having that problem again. At my wits end. I have attempted to clean the area with compressed air to no avail. Why would it work fine after doing the reset, but revert back to the same problem every time a new reboot occurs?

How do I use the d-pad to navigate the settings menu without using the touchscreen? My Gamepad works fine other than the screen and I still can’t select anything on the settings menu
