No, that is a gimmick, just place cuttings in plain water. Over a few weeks you will see changes on the stem that is immersed in the water, you will see whitish bumps on that part of the stem, if the water looks cloudy then change or you can change every 3 or 4 days. Keep the vessel in partial shade. That is how I was able to propagate cuttings. First time trying this. I probably have some more weeks to go to see proper roots forming
