You are the complete opposite of me. I did not like Super Mario Sunshine except for these levels which I loved. I wish that Nintendo would make an entire Mario game just with levels like this.

Ahh, nothing like the soft music to vibe to in these levels as an entire anxiety attack happens whether it be from the slippery slopes or leaps of faith you sometimes had to do

Kinda wish the game had a secret mode that you can unlock at the end of the game where you try to assault-course run all of these in a row for the best time.
These levels were the right mix of FML and bring it on. I yeeted the controller once or twice NGL.

I just noticed that beginning melody when Mario gets his flood stolen is the sound effect when Mario gets hit but slowed down

Is it just me or does Mario look ever so slightly taller without FLUDD?
Also I find it interesting that The Goopy Inferno is the only non-secret level that takes away FLUDD. It doesn’t even let you keep him upon reentering the level after completing it.

Sometimes I like re-entering the goopy inferno and just walk and run around and feeling Mario without fludd, he doesn’t feel as heavy

You can also just use Mario’s water trail from the river to clean some of the hoop and leave enough room to jump to the middle.

i remember playing sunshine mornings before preschool while getting absolutely stuck and had no idea what i was doing, but i had fun regardless. i finally collected all 120 blue coins in 2020
Favorite part of Sunshine. I adore the whole game, don't get me wrong, but this dreadful feeling of going inside one of these and the 60 minutes of suffering that follow, that end with a power orgasm once you reach the end is just beautiful, and one of the reasons I love video games as a whole. The severe challenge and the rewarding feeling. It's also a reason why Sunshine and Cuphead are two of my favorite games, ever.
It feels like Mario's shoes turn to soap each time you enter one of these... and even the controls feel less responsive just to make it harder lol...

Yes, I'm playing Sunshine in this period.
I know these levels are challenging and stress inducing but I have to say I really did enjoy these levels. It really gave you a sense of accomplishment, each time I failed and tried again I felt that I was getting better, and it can be really fun if you know how to transverse it safety. Not counting the chuckster level I would def come back to theses now that I can transverse them safely.

I remember my sister and I watched my dad play these when we were kids. Good times were had by all (even though dad sometimes got really frustrated when he ran out of lives)

Our anxiety goes into overdrive when we have to return to all of the Secrets to try and beat the Red Coin Challenges.
And my heart literally stops when I hear the tick-tock sound at the last 10 second mark.

Yes... I've played the gamecube game and it took me a while to get used to 3d all stars control... Now we have to deal with input lag i only have wireless controllers... barely made it with 1 life before game over

This was the best part of Super Mario Sunshine. My dream 3D Mario game would consist of a bunch of levels like this. Just pure platforming challenge.
These levels were my favorite part of the game.
The game still looks impressive if you upscale it to 1080p or above! I wonder how clean it looks at 8k!
A lot of games from this era aged fairly well graphically. It was a big leap from the blockiness of the 5th generation.
The secret of the dirty lake and the hotel lobby are always the hardest ones for me to beat.

i think one of the reasons why these videos were so difficult for me as a kid was because i didnt yet have a firm understanding on marios moveset, i didnt know how to side jump, triple jump or spin jump, i just kinda jumped for my target and let fludd do the rest. nowadays though i know how to execute all of marios jump types and apply them in platforming. the levels that used to take me around a dozen or so tries to beat now only take 2 or 3, if at all

The shine sprite appearing sound is also used in the beta of super mario galaxy

One time I was playing truth or dare during a sleepover and someone dared me to do one of these courses with the joy con drift. I accepted the dare (because I played one of the secret courses with Joy con Drift and had experience) so anyway, I did it. It took me 20 tries and won. What my friends didn't know was that I did mot have a Joy-Con that Drifted so I chose the oldest one we had. They gave me $40 instead of $20. To everyone who says it is fake, It is not.

I feel like whether you're good or bad at these levels depends on which Mario game was your first, the sidescrollers or Mario 64, because Mario 64 wasn't as platforming-centric as the series had been.

Excuse me, but "The Goopy Inferno" episode of "Pianta Village" is not really a secret level despite the fact that Shadow Mario will take F.L.U.D.D. away from Mario once the player starts that level.
It still feels like one though...

i think the reason why these levels were so freaking difficult for me as a kid was because back then i didnt have a firm understanding on marios moveset, i didnt really know how to side jump, spin jump or triple jump, i would just kinda jump towards my destenation and let fludd handle the rest. i feel like the game could have greatly benefitted if it had some kind of jumping tutorial where it explained all the different kinds of jumps and how to do it. even if they did something like sprinkle a few signs around the secret levels with instructions on how to do all the different kinds of jumps it would be much better

The fact that FLUDD doesn't even tell you how to spin and spray or let out out a big burst of water in the tutorial. You have to look it up in the manual
