I tried being a professional photographer and ended up hating photography. Now I do motion graphics for a living and take photographs to keep myself sane. I wouldn’t mind if it people patted me on the head and told me I’m a good photographer, but what really matters is that I am growing and learning at something I care about.
You people should have sections. Like 1. Movies:- suggest movies, talk about movies you have worked on, people you have worked with, how difficult or easy the work flow was. 2. Cameras: You going to sell, buy or want. 3. Art: the techniqual part. With examples. 4. Jokes, like a section to roast each other and the guests!
I have 2 battling photo-personalities. I have my concert photography that I've done since 2000 and have a sizable following... and my personal film photography that I've done since 2008. I've hated all my concert photography since last August, but people still seem to like it. My film stuff is personal and I love all of the shots.
This is one of the most 'ламповый' (here in Soviet Russia we use this word to define something purely authentic and warm and joyful, derives from lamp amplified sound) episode by far, I had so much fun watching you guys! Keep that stuff going! Cheers from Saint Petersburg
“If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface: of my paintings and films and me, and there I am. There's nothing behind it.” --Andy Warhol
Finally bought a titanium Leica M6 after watching you guys videos about Half a year, even though I've only shot eight rolls of film on my Canon AE-1...LOVE from JP.
As a person from the south (Alabama) now living in California, I desperately want to see Caleb's mind blown by southern BBQ. It's not terrible in CA, but man, BBQ in the south is just a different breed.
I've had a similar experience in hotels recently where there's a sliding door to the bathroom, and there's a massive crack between the door and the wall so not only can you hear everything, you can also literally see the person sitting there from some angles. It's absolutely flagrant lol.
On being a photographer/celebrity: I used to be annoyed whenever a person or website would promote their stuff but now I’m like I enjoy the content that this person creates, so why would I not contribute something to them? Putting your work on RUclips funds your ability to create photography rather than being stuck in a boring 9-5.
Caleb.... aren't you just talking about being a teacher? What you're describing in the "art vs. celebrity" discussion is just connecting and teaching people. Am I crazy here, everyone!?
200k! Thats huge! I've been here since the 2019 photo challenge. Fuck we're old. Caleb, I watched your first video on this channel and you've come a long way! Keep you chin up and clean of BBQ sauce and you'll be there in a GIFFY.
So. You laugh about step-up rings, BUT: My Mamiya 7 came with the 80mm, both pretty beat up... I learned over time that the threads on the 80mm were shit. It took forever to thread on a filter and I always felt like I was wrecking the threads when I put one on. My solution? A permanent 58mm to 67mm step up ring that will forever live on the lens. And now I have the same filter size for my 50mm, 80mm, and 150mm. I would have LOVED a 10 minute review on the BEST step up rings for essentially gluing to my 80mm.
How do you even sell a print … please give me tips .. obviously my photos are incredible and I’m a virgin non seller of prints … love you guys … Tom in England. Oh I’m a Ricoh gr11 user I’m still in love with it … I could go on but won’t … ✌️.
@28:00 Don't sell the FA yet til you try it with Nikon's AI-S lenses to take full advantage of Nikon's Matrix Metering auro exposure. The accuracy is good enough for slides. F3 is great too, but no matrix metering.
Lived in Chicago my entire life and I'm bummed I was out of town for the meetup but yeah, deep dish pizza is terrible. Square cut tavern style or Neapolitan pizza all day long.
With as much redscale that you've been shooting, you might want to get a flipper(assuming you haven't already). That way you can redscale any color stock you want at home without it being a complete pain in the ass.
Most RUclips photography channels likely appeal to photography enthusiasts being gearheads first and foremost. If a person truly wanted to be judged on the artistic value of their photography then RUclips isn't the avenue I would envision them taking. In all honesty there is only one RUclips photography channel that I watch based primarily on the artistic quality of the images shared and that guy is based way out in New Zealand. What's wrong with entertaining people while also having fun doing something that you are passionate about and improving along the way? You could both dump your respective RUclips channels and use that time exclusively for the pursuit of improving your photography, but you might end up burning yourselves out in the process while having much less fun overall. Enjoy the journey.
Nah man, make them shirts! Ide buy one. And its for the same reason ide buy a kodak shirt or something like that. Im a fan. My version of entertainment relates to photography and im sooo so glad that you provide that outlet. I can zone out and see someone elses process, and by the end if that im like "ok now i wanna take some dope pics!". No need to be a pessimist about it. No van gogh wouldnt make shirts, but he wasnt providing a side project allowing people a portal into an art or hobby. Do your thing man
Not to be harsh but can ye really advance the art ye are creating while concentrating so heavily on abandoned buildings, new topography stuff? Surely the best approach to take a big step artistically would be to take a big step away from what ye are so used to shooting? It’s a subject that’s also been covered extensively so is there really anything else to say about it?
Next time you're here you need to have actual Chicago style pizza...tavern style not deep dish. Deep dish is a tourist trap. Also Green Street Meats is good but High Five Ramen downstairs is better. And if you didn't get any Mexican or Puerto Rican food you really missed out on the food scene here. Google: jibarito. Y'all were misguided.
I need a synder cut of this
The grainycut

Honestly, I love the little jingle at the beginning and end of the episode, I feel like it's a nice way to warm the audience.
I think this might be your best episode yet. Love the artist existentialism
The barbecue bros are at it again
Caleb-asking all the good questions!
I lost it when Jason mentioned everyone at the theater having giant sodas during Avatar 😂

I would enjoy a segment on an episode of the podcast where Caleb ranks the different regional styles of BBQ
I’d say we grill in the style of the south west rather than what you call southern BBQ
Go to moos craft in Los Angeles
had to drop a like as the frequent sole android in a group chat
Jumping Jacks are great.
I'd absolutely do a 10 minute video about a step-up ring and it would be terrible, but it would be fun to make
Love your pronounciation of Wetzlar :D I think we should all say it like that here in Wetzlar
I also can't wait to see OPTENHEIMER
🤤

Josh, that hat is choice. Didn't realize New Era made hats in that style
Who?
The deep dish is for tourists. Thin square cut tavern style is Chicago style. But glad you liked your trip.

Get to planning the "Weekend at Bernie's" excursion with post-mortem Jason for the M12 drop.
So much prefer just the two Muppets chatting about crap, than when they had guests and try to be professional 🤣

deep dish pizza tastes better when you dont compare it to regular pizza

Lol the jumping Jack is named for Jack LaLanne I only know bc his son Jon shapes surfboards in LA
5:31 probably Jack 🤣🤣🤣

The two fabulous nonsense madavakas back!! ❤❤❤🤘
IT’S NOT ON THE BACK HAHAHA

I actually have a gold 503CW, it’s the best conversation starting camera during a photowalk.😂
What deep dish place did you go to? If it wasn't Lou Malnati's, you gotta give it another shot.
If you hate deep dish pizza we can difinitely be friends
Would totally buy an MamiyaMEATos tshirt. Along with a print of Jason’s Porclein Du Excellence to hang on my own dunny door.

I am happy to report that I have indeed eaten some cheese in the last 72 hours
Redscale is awesome
You could try the 28mm F4 nikkor PC. Should cover most of the frame of a Xpan
When's the Sissy Lu podcast going to be posted?
Jason, I feel you on the group chat thats a bunch of iphones and youre the one android.
what's that poster behind Caleb?
You guys are not mediocre, you just need to keep shooting and give it time. Also shooting digital helps, just saying...
I would be bankrupt if I shot film (amateurish landscape photography), though I appreciate it
Weekend at Grainies: Leica M12
The correct answer to Jason’s death and a new Leica is to Weekend at Bernie’s it.
i need the stepup ring video for god sake please do it please i beg of you
w podcast
Caleb, you better buy a Contax T3 for 1 camera per month. #Contaxt3videowhen?
