There are so many false ideas about what love is today. There is perhaps no word in the English language that has been more twisted, distorted, and misunderstood than the word love. What we see modeled for us on television and in the movies is a complete misrepresentation of Divine love.
In regards to love Swami Mukundananda explains, where there is no cause that is love. The moment there is a cause love turns into business. True Love begins when nothing is looked for in return. Such selfless love never fades even when the beloved acts in uncaring ways. That is the acid test of selfless love.

True love is pure, unselfish, peaceful, and without any desire to get anything from the beloved. Even when the beloved is not good to us, not kind to us, not sweet to us, still we continue to have undying love for the beloved. The beloved becomes the best friend, the best life partner. The true love is wonderfully described and compared to the worldly love.The basic purpose is to please the beloved; the causeless ; the selfless love where there is no demand but only giving attitude.but in the world,we want return of our every action done for the beloved,this is business,not love.But in spiritual region ,there is no expectation,but the only motive is to give happiness to the Beloved.This is love in real sense which grows day by day.

Nice lecture. Important to realize that this perfection of love should be practiced with God as the object of love. If we try to apply these principles in the mundane world, the chances of getting badly hurt are very high. Krsna already loves us perfectly, so He is the perfect object of our love too.

I agree because I am badly hurt by everyone..by loving selfish and manipulative people, we are left drained and empty. True love doesn't mean making everyone happy at the expense of our sanity and health.

Swamiji has put it so nicely. It is very difficult (almost impossible!) to develop selfless love for the Divine Beloved due to our inherent selfish nature. However, true intention, sincere effort, practice, and Grace of Hari-Guru will help develop selfless love eventually, when a sadhak advances in sadhna. The best aspect of developing selfless love is that a sadhak will never fall from the devotional path.
