    Have you ever tried D&D with such a small group? What was your experience?

      Do you mean that in general 3 people are required for playing? 2 players and 1 master

      @@AndriiMaliuha I wouldn't say required. This video is indeed about 2 players and the DM but I know others play with just 1 player and the DM too. This isa completely different experience for sure, but it depends on what you enjoy!

    Excellent advice, thank you. I’ll be sure to keep it in mind. Glad to hear that there are a lot of positives to playing with DM + 2 players. Everything broadcast on RUclips would have you believe if it’s not Critical Role cast huge (6+ players), then it’s not real D&D

    Wonderful video :) I have played with just two players almost exclusively, because I'm a very shy person and can't run a game for people I don't know incredibly well. One time we added a third person who I also knew, but wasn't that close with, and that remains my least favourite game in my memory.
    I think you're absolutely correct, it can be tons of fun to play with just two people. I have experimented with giving them an NPC to help out at times, but I 100% agree that it works best if it's very temporary.

      Glad to see others experience the same! Our two player games have been the best so far for us too!!!

    Skill challenges and other non-combat encounters can be vital for smaller groups to allow for more gameplay during a session with less chance of a TPK. That's not to say that failing such tasks shouldn't have consequences, but those consequences need not be fatal. Falling out of favor with the king, expulsion from a guild, or even being run out of town are plausible consequences that don't involve death and could even spur more roleplaying from the players.

      @MyrtosArtCorner  2 года назад +3

      Oh absolutely agree! I think I didn't include it because I find that equally fun in bigger groups too 😅 It's a nice change from combat and, as you said, the consequences can be very real! Great suggestion!!!

    awesome option for more flexible and "faster"runs! amazing video once again! and I couldn't agree more on the npc or two character-per-player tip. it takes away the Immersion.

    • @MyrtosArtCorner
      @MyrtosArtCorner  2 года назад +3

      Thank you so much!!!! I expect the NPC opinion to be a controversial one, so I'm happy to see that you agree! None of these has worked well for us for exactly that reason! There are many other ways to adjust the game that are way more fun 😃

    • @andreasandreou2817
      @andreasandreou2817 2 года назад +2

      @@MyrtosArtCorner it's because that option isn't actually a solution, but more of a "Bandaid". It takes away the small group setup. I too lean on the more power, or even "borrowed power" in the form of buffs or items.

    • @MyrtosArtCorner
      @MyrtosArtCorner  2 года назад +2

      @@andreasandreou2817 Yes that's so true! It messes with the chemistry of the group. Having powerful characters is SO much fun for them and honestly it's also fun for the DM as well because the enemies can also get more complicated if you know that the players have ways to face them!

    Another great video! I think I'm about to run into a situation where my party of 3 players might be reduced down to 2. Not because of any game problems or personality conflicts, but mainly because of availability. I have a feeling that the remaining players will want to stick with their current characters, so having a smaller group may work out well. I appreciate the tips about combat and encounter balance.
    Also, I agree with not adding an NPC to the group. That said, I have found that the updated Sidekick rules in 5e can be very useful. It's not for everyone, but it seems to work well for my current game. I asked the players if they were ok with this strategy ahead of time. We all decided that I would handle the "roleplay" as the DM, and they would take turns with the "roll play" for the Sidekick. So they are running the character in action/combat scenes, but I am still running character in exploration and social interaction scenarios. So far so good, but we'll see how it goes :)
    Thanks again!

      Yes, absolutely, in any case it all comes down to the group agreeing and having fun! Having options and choosing whatever works best for the players and the DM is the best approach, always! It's a lot of fun to play like that and it feels different, which I personally find refreshing 😃
