Shout out to you you’ve been putting in work with a Videos for a while. You switched it up with more information about writers and history props to you keep it going brother . governor in the mayor should be arrested, but on the other hand, the graffiti is allowed to prosper from the pandemic then bombing the trains was insane but the government in New York drives people away. Keep it going bro props to you.

The 70’s birthed a revolutionary art movement that could only have happened in the city because of a very unique mindset of NY’ers. This paved the way for graffiti to thrive as an art form and wouldn’t have been possible anywhere but NYC. Glam and grit are intertwined and inseparable on those streets.

We were all toys. I hate that word because it intimidates new writers. Getting up is getting up. The more you do it the better you get. I don't hate on anyone or their style, after 30 years of this shit I know that wack style could become tomorrows dope shit. Embrace, follow, get inspired by the art. I have studied so many forms and mediums and I love them all but graff has kept my interest for longer than all of them. IMHO it is the only living form.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's to be a writer you had to have style and creativity. Graffiti writers who helped pave the way and modernize the art were creative artist with ideas and various styles. Artist would always come up with different ways of shaping, forming and designing letters into styles with their own touch of class and originality. Writers were full of imagination and would find many ways to express the art through styles and that made the artist stand out from among the rest. Dedication to display your skills and master the art was a definite must in graffiti. You had to bring out the best in you and take the art to a whole new level. That's why graffiti today is alive because of artist who shared their beautiful art, skills and talent by creating burners, wild style and master pieces that gave aresol spray can art its name. Today there are still very talented artist who still exists and are true master artist that do graffiti through airbrush, murals, canvas etc.

  • @doylesky
    @doylesky 3 месяца назад +2

where I differ from a lot of the comments I see on this and other vids re:style is that I don't view Throws as a stalling out of graffiti's progression but rather a core genre riffed upon through time. Wildstyles are certainly technically pretty and eyecatching, but I never really get as excited for a wonky wildstyle as i do for a well executed throw, even just a really effective two letter is pretty cool to me. its like talking about guitar solos, yeah it was very impressive/proficient, but that doesn't necessarily equal a compelling song or image.

I feel like for writers in the Midwest we look to LA and NYC equally for inspiration. And for me personally, I see FAR more artistry and quality work coming from New York than LA.
The west coast is one of the most bombed areas on the planet, but from what I've seen there are so many toys, and half the pieces out there look like the type of shit I drew in sketch pads when I was 12 or 13 and had zero knowledge of graffiti culture lol. I look at NY graffiti for inspiration and motivation, even though my area is worlds apart from the New York ethos. I rock with stickers heavy, and seeing the sticker bombed streets out there never fails to get me amped, same with the doors covered in handstyles and mop tags (the one you showed here at 12:32 is fucking gorgeous lmao). And like a couple others said, NYC has the best throwies in the world.
I know a lot of locals hate on the scene, and they would know more of it than I do of course, but the graff world still sees New York as the style mecca and a major driving force for writing. Whether the city realizes it or not it's one of the only things making it look good these days. This whole era feels like the 90s again and it's cool af to see.

Im in London but from what I can make out, over in NYC theres a serious amount of kids rocking the exact same style using the exact same bubble letters. I'm sure its a traditional style synonymous with NY, it jus seems a little jaded.
Thankfully though, there is a healthy amount of writing up that does stand out and is unique in style which is refreshing to see. Im also a big fan of those who have the balls to rapell off a building and paint a vertical piece. That is some endeavour! It seems Graf is in a bit of an odd phase for now.
Thanks for continually documenting and posting your videos. Its great insight into whats happening over there. 🤝👍

NYC is pushing throwies stylistically like no other place in America in terms of letter structure, sizing and even mixing em with characters. In terms of pieces tho it seems like NYC is stuck on the traditional blocky styles where as the west coast has a variety of blocky and organic and whatever else u can think of. The rappelling ahit is awesome tho. Seems like alot of old heads can’t let the blocky style go or evolve in some sort of way. Anyways that’s just my 2cents theirs convos to be had and pints to be argued

Graffiti is one of the few things where quantity can be more valuable than quality. It would be hard to decide between ich and Does; ich has very basic styles, but made a legendary name in the culture, Does is skilled and cultered, but with a different purpose. Both are up there with my top writters, but Does definitely makes more techinical work than ich.
As for the new generation, there are many differences in each city, especially in politics. The consequences also vary, and not many people outside of the culture take graffiti serious. Adults are definitely laughed at when vandalizing aimlessly especially with no styles.
    DOPE VIDEO, GREAT COMMENTARY

What a disgrace. It makes me recoil in disgust.. long live style , long live beauty , to rebel against these things is to shit on tens of thousands of years of the human aspiration to evolve, these fools are devolving and beginners are copying them. Obviously it’s a lot more excepted in some cities more than others but to say it’s not the most popular art form of this century or whatever would be an understatement. Ok so someone is "up" everywhere, cats shit everywhere as well, it adds no value to the instances. Alot of weak names amongst that mix also. Overall not enough focus on handstyles, the forgotten basis. Politics... nvmd they watchin'.

The only good graffiti in nyc are all out of towners, guys like obese and muk aren’t from around there and maybe some legends still doing it with style, the young guys that are really active, it’s hard to look at, no idea how they derived at some of their letters, and looks like they are throwing up there first try over and over. Guys like maxr, uno, chopo… need to improve, but don’t seem interested.

Out of towners coming to bomb in the city with their toy styles is a fact but some of the best writers EVER are literally right there in the city

Graffiti is dead as far as being something that unites it divides which is stupidity.

NYC is stilling using 3D, drop shadows, sparkles, and bubbles in their fill-ins 25 years later...NYC graffiti has NEVER evolved....mostly toys inhabit NYC these days.

It doesn't need to evolve graffiti should look like graffiti not graphics or calligraphy you can't fake the funk

Does that mean it isn’t evolving, or is that just essential graff techniques? U walk around the city and u see fills just like how they’ve been done for the past however many years now, but u also see these crazy drop down pieces, some w some crazy detailed characters or style right above them. Graff is still evolving but fundamentals r fundamentals.

it's decent here in waterloo ontario. we never had a whole lot of serious writers in the first place. i see maybe 5 guys that i see up consistently

This is a good topic....too many new jacks stealing styles and names, they will switch one letter and think they are being original. That sh!t needs to stop. When we came up in early 2000s u had to stay on paper and develop style before hitting walls but now fools going straight to the walls putting up garbage and taking up space. I apprecaite the guys with clean str8 letters, thats the stuff which is gonna inspire the youth not tue super wild style. When the kids can read the graff it reaches them more at least thats my personal experience. R.I.P WILD BA Crew one the first i saw crushing my hood
