I've long loved the music/mastery/anointing of Israel Houghton; but I've just been drawn to Michael Gungor by my 13-year-old son. Just did a study of James 4:4-6; it says friendship with the world is no friendship at all; in fact, it makes us enemies of God! John 15:13-16 says if we follow Christ, He calls us FRIENDS! It brought this song to my mind immediately;so thankful to listen to, perform & worship to music by such creative geniuses as God has placed in these guys (& so many more)!
I choked at the fill at 0:41 ...its not that its so difficult to execute....its just so well timed and placed...i love the pause just before to create space for it...and it was so unexpected when it hit you but didn't get in the way of the song.....such genius.

with the Fill in 0:41 he slid and played with the C#m chord. if you look at it closely. its like a Jimi Hendrix Lick, and yes, you'll hear it from SRV or even John Mayer. but in a nutshell, if you try to learn the structure of Hendrix's Grip, you'll easily get it. 9.11.9.9.9.X is the fingering and you just hammer. try watching a Hendrix chord tutorial. its much easier that way.
As a performer who wears glasses, I have struggled to keep them on a sweaty face while moving and shaking. This is called live performance, no edits. BTW, the guy in the red pants is still looking for the chords.
its in the key of E...a very nice progression but he sings way to high. I have to drop it down quite a bit to sing it and I am a decent irish tenor. Main chords as he plays it are E, C#m and F#m but sound best being played up on the neck.
+Lynden Sterling It's probably what you're not hearing that is the issue. There is allot of high/mid attenuation which wrecks the way you perceive the chords.
That particular guitar is a Taylor (a T5 I think) that was specifically modified by Taylor for Israel. He is a Taylor endorsed artist. The owner of Taylor Guitars, Bob Taylor, is a Christian.

***** could not agree with you more. I was there and he was in no way looking for chords. Gungor and Houghton are musicians' musicians.
