Interestingly enough, Gilgamesh calls Rider "mongrel" all up until Rider launches into his speech of what a king should be. From that point on he earns at least some modicum of respect from Gilgamesh who starts referring to him as "king of conquerors".
Interesting is the fact that beyond Rider'speech and the belittling of Saber... They all know Saber was right. The king in his position is always alone. After Alexander's death his trusted generals turned on each other and those loyal to Alexander like Eumenes (the dude looking alike Velvet Waver) got killed, the others founded their own dinasty, like Ptolemaios becoming Egypt pharaoh. Meanwhile Gilgamesh had only one single individual he considered as true friend and peer (Enkidu). So they were all equally alone, without anyone to share their burden with.
@@valeforyoru You've missed the entire point. It's not about whether the king is literally alone or not. But are you gonna be a little bitch about it? Gilgamesh embraced his position at the top. Iskandar shared his glories with his army. Artoria meanwhile moped about it and wanted to undo it. It's the attitude that Gilgamesh and Iskandar are looking down upon Artoria for. If you want to take what you said to its logical conclusion, everyone is alone after death. The king may indeed reign lonely upon his throne. That does not mean he has to isolate himself and stand an island apart from his men.
@@valeforyoru From what from what I understood when I watched this years ago. They didn't like how Artoria was regretting everything she, her followers and citizens had been through during her reign just because Camelot fell. It's all about glory until death and Artoria was trampling on it by wanting to undo it.
@@ericaarcadia7178 not only that, she was mistaken about what a king is, ie what she should've done. lead!! artoria took all the burden upon herself. saving people will not avail them when you're gone. In simpler words give a man fish and he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime. artoria was the type to give a fish while a king's job is to teach his people how to fish. by all means she could be a saint, a warrior, a savior, but she never was a king.
For those that are just offended by Gilgamesh or those that don't really understand what are Gilgamesh's and Rider's take on who should take the grail, here's to help you understand a bit. Gilgamesh actually owns the entire world. This is basically just logic Gilgamesh isn't just an ordinary king. He is a very special God King. Gods own the world. And Gilgamesh is even more special because the Gods created Gilgamesh to rule earth. (He isn't like other kings trying to rule over a kingdom. Because he is a God, he is basically ruling over his own property since the world belongs to God) The holy grail therefore, belongs to Gilgamesh and all the other heroic servants are thieves. He is fighting (somewhat) in the grail war to punish the thieves who are trying to steal his treasure. Rider admits that the Holy Grail belongs to Gilgamesh. If Gilgamesh wants to, he will just give the grail to anyone but he doesn't need to give it because the other servants do not acknowledge him as their king. In fact he is even pissed off because the other servants are so ignorant that they don't even recognize him. Rider doesn't acknowledge Gilgamesh to be his king but he does acknowledge that the rightful owner of the grail is Gilgamesh because he acknowledges that Gilgamesh owns the entire world. But since he is a conqueror, he is basically trying to take away the grail through right of conquest and is in rebellion of Gilgamesh's rule
