One interesting fact about Artoria's lore, is that, early as a king, they never knew she's a girl. Only a select few like Artoria's brother and her adoptive father and Merlin. Lancelot and Guinevere didn't know Artoria is a girl. They(Lancelot and Guinevere) got a little closer because Artoria is distant. Also, Artoria is like Guinevere's childhood crush and hero apparently. Later on, the two got married for political purposes. A few years, Artoria revealed to her that she's a woman. Disillusioned by that fact, Gueneviere confided and got more intimate with Lancelot which a knight she is close to. And then they inevitably fell in love. And the rest is history. Edit: sauce is the type moon wiki. I also listened to the Avalon drama CD or whatever it was called.

It's his dream since he was a kid with no proper goal because it's just impossible, until he learned about the holy grail wars which probably is the only way, and only to end up so bad, killing a lot of people in the process. I think he's had enough. He deserves his rest. Add to that, that he never saw Illya again. You can see how much he's depressed by the end. Rip
