Is the B-14 Wilderness Sierra Bergara’s most versatile, value-priced hunting rifle yet? I’ve become a true Bergara fan after testing a number of rifles and observing outstanding results. Though announced at SHOT Show 2024, we only just received the Sierra and already have a number of plans for it! Check out this video as we put it through its paces.

You should consider doing your grouping drills on squares or triangles. Aiming at the same spot on a circle with the center dot is harder to repeat POA.

Maybe he is. You can aim at the very top, bottom, or sides of a circle. Maybe not quite as precise as a point, but better than the randomness of a black hole. Your point is well taken.

I have a B14 in .243 that was originally a Timber model (wood / blued). I ended up getting the barrel and action cera-coated green, and dropped it into a green KRG Bravo chassis. It looks great, and shoots even better. I've shot deer and pigs out to 500y with it, using 95gr SST's. However, I rarely get pass through and therefore, minimal blood trail. If I bought one of the new Sierra's, it'd likely be in 6.5PRC (or .308 if the 6.5PRC is longer action), and I'd swap it out with the .243 in the Bravo chassis.
BUT... too late. I bought a Howa Carbon Elevate in 6.5PRC. Couldn't resist purchasing a package deal I saw while "browsing" at my local hunting store.
    Howa Carbon Elevate 6.5PRC + Sig Sierra3 BDX 4.5-14x50 Scope + Talley Rings + DPT over-barrel Suppressor = $3.500NZD ($2,135.59USD).
Here in New Zealand we have a new firearm registry that has just been introduced. Currently, certain purchases or transactions will activate a 30 day countdown to register ALL of your guns against your firearms license. Hence, sales have gone down, and stores are having to sell below cost in order to clear their stock.
I was already using the Sig BDX system on my .243, and so the scope on the Howa was what I would have put on anyway, given that I already have the range finder to match with it, and the experience with the system. I gotta say, the Sig BDX system for hunting is SOOOOO worth it. First animal with it on my .243 was a 150lb boar at 500y, and it worked perfect. It's so damn quick and easy once setup is complete. Turn the scope on, range, shoot. Literally a 10 second process. I've had the Howa for about 2 months now, and shot 2 Red deer spikers, one at 439y and one at 404y, one after the other, just a week ago. Its almost as simple as "point and squirt!"
Sadly though, although I'm liking the Howa barrel and action, the "Stocky's" carbon stock was a massive letdown. Very badly finished and fitted out. I HAD to bed it and trim out the barrel channel to freefloat the barrel, re-drill and glue in the front swivel stud, and pull out the foam fill from the stock, fit buttplate screw ankers, and refill with foam in order to have the recoil pad firmly fitted. Quite disappointing, but I obviously did everything well, since its easily a sub minute rifle since. For the price I paid and subsequent efforts with the stock, still very much worth the purchase.

Would I choose the Wilderness, NO! I did choose the Timber because it is offered in Left Handed" had a 24" barrel and in 30-06 (OMG, NOT THAT). 6.5PRC was not offered and the .308 only had a 20" inch barrel and I wanted the best velocity from large bullets out to a max of 400 yards. Guess I just chose the most obsolete out dated platform but very happy with my purchase.

    • @jaydunbar7538

308 is supposed to have a shorter barrel, it makes up for the barrel with higher pressure in it’s specifications. If your hand loading though 06 is certainly the way to go, in a modern rifle there’s no reason to not run an 06 at modern pressures.

As someone who is a left hand shooter and wanting to try something different than a Savage as a rifle (even though I like both of them that I have) when I saw this was coming out from Bergara I have been pretty excited but also waiting patiently for them to FINALLY become available online and hopefully 🤞🏻 in stores so that I can handle one. I also want a rifle with a threaded barrel which made the choices even more limited for me. Pretty much Savage, Christensen Arms, some Gen 1 Ruger American 🇺🇸 Predator series, some Tikkas and this Bergara Sierra or the standard HMR.

6.5 Creedmoor is a pretty good improvement over 308. I'm a 308 fan but 6.5 Creedmoor is just better. 308 can shoot heavier bullets which is great but ballistically the Creed is better.

Probably a bigger emphasis on terminal performance. If you want to see a slippery bullet for 308 look no further than the berger elite hunter 180. Apples to apples I feel like the difference in hit probability between the two is probably not that much when like bullets are used.
