Regarding Ellen Corby: she was such a sweet, spunky little gal. She could play that role of Grandma so very well, but my favorite performance of hers that not only makes me laugh even now, and at the same time is such a heartwarming delight for me was when she guest starred on the original The Addams Family television series as Ted Cassidy’s character, Lurch the butler’s Mamma. That first scene where she arrives at the front door of the mansion is priceless. Lurch couldn’t even open the door as he always otherwise did as he could peer out and see that it was his Momma ringing the doorbell. So Gomez answers the door for him instead, and the first thing out of Elen’s mouth is “where is my Sonny?” Then when she sees Lurch, all that sepulchral-like demeanor he always exhibited when answering the door any other time just falls to the floor with a sudden resounding crash as it were. He lit up like a veritable Christmas tree in a split second, cried out in that deep, slow voice of his “Mamma” while Elen then replied, “Sonny,” and as Ted was near to seven feet tall while Elen was so tiny, she grabs him around the lower waste to hug him while he instinctively grabs the air directly in front of him right above her head. However, it was when she was leaving at the end of the episode that for me is the most memorable, as well as funny as Lurch in saying good bye to her picks her up like a tiny little doll and hugs her. For me , that is one forever unforgettable scene! You could feel the vibes throughout that episode in any scene she and Ted had together that they must have gotten along really well behind the scenes just as much, and even more as they did portraying those two characters in front of the camera and crew!

I love the series from the beginning. I always like this series it reminded me of my family of generations now almost all are parents ,grandparents. Aunts, uncles are all gone. I’m now in my 70’s my cousin died a few years ago and she was in her 80’s. The one thing that is different is the reunions. Holidays and your regular meals . Most of the younger relatives aren’t that close any more what a shame. Bring back the Waltons please.

One of the most AMAZING parts of The Waltons was that both Grandpa (Will Geer) and Grandma (Ellen Corby) were both gay!! Great actors. One of the things wrong with this video is it only looked at the roles they played on The Waltons and did not show the hundreds of great roles each of them had played over the years in movies, television and the activism that each one followed for the betterment of their communities and the world.
