For the ones who want all of the history behind the song : Le chant de l'oignon According to legend, originated among the grenadiers of Napoleon's Imperial Guard called "les Grognard". Before the Battle of Marengo, Napoleon found some grenadiers rubbing vigorously on their bread. "What are you rubbing on your bread ?," he said, "It's onion mon Empereur" "Ah ! Very good, there is nothing better than an onion for marching on the road to glory." The true story is a bit more dramatic while a lot of soldiers had nothing else to eat than onions for long periods of time a tradition began in the Napoleonic army soldiers were biting in an onion before going to battle as the bitterness of the oignon give them courage as the song says "Un seul oignon nous change en lion,
(One onion turn us into lion)" once a soldier bites the oignon his camarades would die for him and he would die for them

Fried onions are delicious for Mediterranean. Not that much for northern French, who prefer butter to oil.
The song dates back from Bonaparte war in Italy, where onions and oil was all the soldiers could grab from the countryside while walking fast around the Austrian army.

      Arl-44 : a panther but french
Sherman: an american modern S-35 (S-35 came sooner)
FT-17: the literal base of more than half of ww2 modern tank design and despite obsolete still fought ww2
B1/B1-bis : who the f asked for a mobile interwar bunker who can only be countered trough bomber and flak in 1940, and could smash german modern fast tanks anytime without fear
Char 2C : same as B1 but ww1 quality instead and even bigger, not even obsolete since nothing was nearly as heavy to match it back then
FCM-36: at least better than an ft-17 on ww2 battlefield, and efficient against anything less armored than it
H-35: one wouldnt believe it but this tiny thing was an excellant light tank despite its weakness to late war tanks
H-39: better than the H-35 and real capable but one doesnt just put B1 alongside a light tank
AMC-35: im not kidding this tank existed and used on the field, most memorable use was when the belgian lost 6 of the 8 tank on their first encounter...
AMR-33: to be honest considering its size i wouldve mistaken it for an italian tankette, no wonder it failed just as spectacularly on the battlefield
Char D1/D2: aparently was the most modern french design post ww1, all i see is some monstruosity that im glad the grrman took care of jesus its ugly
R-35: successor to the ft-17, ironically was more useful for their ennemy than the french, and also the one tank made for rambo considering the commander had to fight by himself beside the driver.
R-39/40 :designed as better than the R35... until they all got destroyed in a month

I’m sorry to say this, but I’m Swedish, and we use the “au pas camarade”-part in a dance game called “Små grodorna” (The little frogs). Basically we sing about how the little frogs are funny to watch, because they have no ears or tails. And then at the refrain we mimic frogs and sing in the “au pas camarade”-tune. We do this on both midsummer and Christmas.
Sorry, France, but a lifetime of “Små grodorna” has made this song into a lighthearted comedy for Swedes.
