I never had a tough life as a child, this song still deeply saddens me, I think about all the other kids that are going through this kind of pain and it really makes me cry. I think about my family who all have good hearts and we’re able to provide us with every one of our needs, I am very grateful not only for my own parents, but the other parents out in this world who would do anything for their childrens safety and are willing to make their lives as happy as imaginable despite all the hardships attempting to prevent that, all the parents that will never give up on their children, the parents that provide as much food as possible for their children. It wasn't really painful. We was too young to know how hard we had it. Not til you grow up and reflect that it hits you and you reminisce. I wouldn't have it other way though. Tough beginnings give you empathy for people in the struggle. That's why I'm a 42 year old white man who don't have a racist bone in my body. In fact it gave me so much love for the black community. This was the first hip-hop song that my parents actually appreciated. growling up they didn't think Rap was actual music "how much skill does it take to talk over someone elses music they would say" but the story Ghost made they felt it because both of them had experienced what he talked about in some shape or form.
