My 60 yr old white mom grew up in the country on a pig farm, 8 siblings, 2 bedroom house. Dad died when she was a teenager. She loves this song. Good music reaches all of us…
Everything he is saying in this song I have been through. Taking a note at my mother's friend's house to get some sugar or bread. No lights, water off, holes in my clothes and shoes. RIP mother you are a queen. Thank you for doing the best you could.....💯♥️
Bad thing about that Chucky365 is what you went through , what I went through which was very similar , it wasn't an accident . It was all intentional courtesy if the United States government . They really tried to snuff us out , we wasn't supposed to survive that 😢
When this came out. My mom who couldn't stand rap watched this video with me. She had a tear in her eye. The newspaper line is real. Respect forever ghost, forever!
I tear up when she’s holding the baby on the couch. She’s alone, probably broke and scared for her baby. She says “I understand your Daddy’s not around” is why I never leave my kids no matter what my baby moms does. They need me ✊🏽

It wasn't really painful. We was too young to know how hard we had it. Not til you grow up and reflect that it hits you and you reminisce. I wouldn't have it other way though. Tough beginnings give you empathy for people in the struggle. That's why I'm a 42 year old white man who don't have a racist bone in my body. In fact it gave me so much love for the black community. Even after finding out we got robbed on Xmas morning. I remember just feeling so bad for my mother. But even after that, moms still managed to find away. RIP Mommy

Yes he is. But this wasn't a story. This was reality for people living in impoverished areas in the 80s. Still happens today no doubt but don't know if the youngens are still drinking sugar water
Grew up with only my mom in the picture. No father. Ever. Mom did everything she could do. Looking back, we struggled alot. But she literally "held it down". Lost mom 2 years ago. This songs has always hit hard. Now,...its much deeper.
This might be the illest struggle song ever. Nothing about it seemed contrived. It was like a reflective stream of consciousness. Flowers for Ghost 🌹🌹🌹
....and the perfect song sample was used to accomidate his lyrical genius.."Maybe Tomorrow" by the Jackson 5..You can hear the 14 year old MJ voice humming in the sample..Classic 🔥 from Ghost.. Wu is a band of geniuses for real..
The part i remember is my mom every month saying we made it another month on little to nothing. She was humble and always thankful God let us make thru . Can't not listen to this song and not tear up. 😢
This makes me think of the things my mother went through to raise me and how I took that love and used it to act like a monster. Thank God we both survived and are now best friends.
Respect from France!! i listen this from my 15 years.....i have 36 today , and i have the same émotion when i listen this song!!!! i have live the same life in France!!!!
Allways thougt this song was corny, and preferred Raekwons "all i got is you pt. 2", but after i saw the ghostface/kane interview, and heard that ghost had a hard time performing this song, I came back to it and really listened, and it really hit me diffrent. I also remember hearing that ghost had som disabled brothers, that man has been through som hard times. Salute!
I had brothers whom we enjoyed this song together and just 2yrs apart they passed on.. The memories of our childhood still fresh in my mind. Rest in peace Nixon and Tolbert. I'll cherish you all the days of my life
I can relate too this and I'm crying as I write this comment as my daughter sent me this song!!!! I love that she understands the struggle being a single parent. Kudos to Ghost for relaying such a true story for a lot of people.😢❤
Damn it's 2024 and till this day hearing this song which was made long ago ,this song still brings tears to my eyes GOD BLESS ALL THE FAMILIES THAT STRUGGLE OR WENT THROUGH A STRUGGLE BUT STILL HELD THINGS TOGETHER THIS SHOUT OUT BLESSING IS TO U !! SHHHWWWW
This was the first hip-hop song that my parents actually appreciated. growling up they didn't think Rap was actual music "how much skill does it take to talk over someone elses music they would say" but the story Ghost made they felt it because both of them had experienced what he talked about in some shape or form. To the point they would ask me to put this one for them from time to time.
This strikes a chord within fr. I was living this life as I watched this music video on “The Box” as a kid. So I feel where he coming from. Real music.
U watched this on the box back in the day, too? Thats where I first viewed this video. Ralph McDaniels was the bee Jay. I remember those days. I'm from the Poconos. Everybody in tobyhsnna watched the box . Then again Everybody in the Poconos from NYC. Yeh this is one of the most powerful songs ever
This song has always meant a lot to me and I'm sitting here watching the new season of The Wutang Saga and RZA just gave him this beat. Love the show it brings me back to childhood! The Wu will always be special to me! They all had struggles but Ghost really had a lot on his plate at a young age and I admire him the most.
@@ClowneryAtItsFinest I love how he and Rae were able to put aside their beef and realize they had more in common with each other than any of the others, you could tell Rae admired Ghost too for having the will to stretch himself as thin as he had to to make sure his family was straight including getting RZA out of jail. He epitomized the word selflessness, it was never about him and always about the people he loved. He deserves everything good that has ever come his way ten fold!
@@ClowneryAtItsFinest definitely they all turned nothing into something and literally put Staten Island on the map at a time when it was all about the other boroughs. They all were pretty selfless, teamwork at it's finest...I never thought Wednesday would be my favorite day of the week! Lol
@@fayettenom2681 The original version was Mary, If i’m correct that;s the version that’s on the on the album. This is the version wirh Mary: ruclips.net/video/qDFIFfsqWIs/видео.html
I love both versions, just can’t pick one over the other. It would be amazing if Ghost, Mary and Tekitha would perform this live together, that would be beautiful
This song is undoubtedly the most beautiful piece of rap music in the world. Especially when you know his story, his mother beaten by his father who sinks into alcohol, poverty, his 2 disabled little brothers and diabetes for GFK ...
I get chocked up listening to this every time. We didn’t have everything growing up. It was rough but my mom did the best she could to raise us right. I thank God and very proud of the women she’s become. I love my mom!❤🇵🇷
DAMN, RZA knew they was getting out of the hood with beats like this 😳 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Just the piano 🎹 keys and Mary J. Blige in the background is what was all needed for this to be CLASSIC
Oh Jesus, I told myself I wasn't gonna do it, but I always cry when I hear this song especially as it fades off. The violin along with Aunty Mary's soulful and raw voice just tugs at my heart. This song has the ability to unearth deeply embedded emotions and allow them to flow out the body through the form of tears 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
This is probably one of the realest and inspiring hip hop songs ever if you been through struggles or are struggling now you can always rise above it and become successful if you believe in yourself and put the work in.
To this day I can't make it through this song with tears. My mom passed a few years ago and we grew up similar to this song. Probably one of the most realest joints ghost ever dropped! Salute Ghost! South Carolina BENZ GANG all day!
Literally accurate to my story growin up in Dayton, Ohio. I know we all have our own stories but this track always hit home. Lyrical geniuses. The best beats ever made. Wutang forever. Thanks Wutang for your music and giving us a peak into the lives you lived that helped so many through very hard times. Literally no artists ever can recreate the unique quality of your sound. This is why Wutang can't be fkd with

Yes he is. But this wasn't a story. This was reality for people living in impoverished areas in the 80s. Still happens today no doubt but don't know if the youngens are still drinking sugar water
🎉❤
I shed tears every time I hear this joint… Ghost is a legend 🐐

Me too me muddah hear..wow!
The term “struggle song” makes me laugh lol ahaha
The part i remember is my mom every month saying we made it another month on little to nothing. She was humble and always thankful God let us make thru . Can't not listen to this song and not tear up. 😢
💯
This makes me think of the things my mother went through to raise me and how I took that love and used it to act like a monster. Thank God we both survived and are now best friends.

My favourite Ghostface song. I get goosebumps everytime I hear it!
2Pac needed to be on the remix
@@aligator6546 nah.
Salute!
When rap songs actually had story lines, concept and videos with real acting..miss these daya
I had brothers whom we enjoyed this song together and just 2yrs apart they passed on.. The memories of our childhood still fresh in my mind. Rest in peace Nixon and Tolbert. I'll cherish you all the days of my life
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
The only song that can make me cry like a baby
Still one of the greatest songs ever made
💯💯💪
You said it all Mr. _gaming, you said it all.
This should have millions of views. Real rap with a real lyricist. Ghostface never disappoints
I can relate too this and I'm crying as I write this comment as my daughter sent me this song!!!! I love that she understands the struggle being a single parent. Kudos to Ghost for relaying such a true story for a lot of people.😢❤
💜🙏🏾💜
THIS SONG IS A REAL STORY FOR ALL THE ONES WHO GREW UP WITH STRUGGLE AND HAD THE HEART TO FACE IT❤❤❤❤
Still one of the best Hip Hop songs ever. True classic shit Ghost! 😎👍
Harry The Cat true
There's only one problem ......It's not long enough lol
The message is still there. Beautiful song. 💕💕💕💕
Up there for sure, wonder if Tupac had said somn on this beat ,but Gface owned it
Amen
Damn it's 2024 and till this day hearing this song which was made long ago ,this song still brings tears to my eyes GOD BLESS ALL THE FAMILIES THAT STRUGGLE OR WENT THROUGH A STRUGGLE BUT STILL HELD THINGS TOGETHER THIS SHOUT OUT BLESSING IS TO U !! SHHHWWWW
I didn’t grow up rough, but I’ve always loved this song. My mom did too. I miss her.
i turn 50 at 12 am and this song brought me to tears. Thank you Mom and Dad the best parents in the world, we was poor
Educate them more about rap if that’s how they view it
This strikes a chord within fr. I was living this life as I watched this music video on “The Box” as a kid. So I feel where he coming from. Real music.
🔥🔥🔥
MAKES ME CRY TEARS OF JOY MUCH RESPECT!!
Every time I hear this song I cry it’s real
R.I.p. Dad ….love you no matter what
This song has always meant a lot to me and I'm sitting here watching the new season of The Wutang Saga and RZA just gave him this beat. Love the show it brings me back to childhood! The Wu will always be special to me! They all had struggles but Ghost really had a lot on his plate at a young age and I admire him the most.
He really did though.
I never knew this until their TV show. Strength and perseverance kept him going though.
@@DavidH937 They were both so stubborn as youngsters.
They probably think back and laugh about it now. They ALL have came so far.
@@ClowneryAtItsFinest definitely they all turned nothing into something and literally put Staten Island on the map at a time when it was all about the other boroughs. They all were pretty selfless, teamwork at it's finest...I never thought Wednesday would be my favorite day of the week! Lol
@@DavidH937 I met Meth a few years ago in Studio City, really nice guy.
This song hits so much harder after watching their story on Hulu😢
Ghost face?
Wu Tang an American saga on hulu
Fun Fact: clearly that’s not Mary J singing on this version, it’s Tekitha 🥰
Facts.
Right. I was told Puffy pulled Mary from the song before the video shoot when he found out ghost and Rae had beef with Biggie.
I always thought that it was Mary! Wow! I love her voice
Play it around this time of year, can't help but shed a tear.
I literally love you!
I dedicate this song to ALL single Mother’s out there & the Grandma’s that ALWAYS hold it, when punk MF flake out of their responsibilities
One of the greatest songs ever created...period.
Goosebumps... Everytime... Just hits different. Classic.
So real.... A true classic. Can't believe its been over 20 years since this dropped. WU-TANG FOREVER!!!
One of the greatest hip hop tracks ever!!!
DAMN, RZA knew they was getting out of the hood with beats like this 😳 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Just the piano 🎹 keys and Mary J. Blige in the background is what was all needed for this to be CLASSIC
I'm a grown ass 40 year old man and till this day this song makes me cry and reminds me of the way we grew up. Look at us now 💚
Only 4 mill likes.. people don’t know real shit 😢🙌🏾
This is one of the reasons why Ghostface Killah is my favourite member of Wu-Tang Clan.
Always and forever will love this song since Highschool days and now I’m 39! Big up Ghostface killah 🔥
You can't front they don't make records like this anymore. God bless Mary & Salute to Ghost‼️💯✊🏾
Pure poetry for a blk man to pour his heart out for us. Thank you for the couch 🫡
Oh 11/28/24 no big feast only what I cooked for kids and hubby saving to buy land. Have to sacrifice for change. Won’t be Xmas this year either
Every time. 😞
Still listening in 2024 and beyond 💪🏽💜🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He really captured the struggle on this song.
listen to this at my lowest points in life, gives me strength to carry on... mut respect to ghost for spilling his heart out on this track !
This is why Wutang can't be fkd with
This shit touch my SOUL on 100 different levels ❤️🩹
