One of my best upgrades on my coupe was the angel eyes from a company called 2xcite with a LED power pack really does turn from night in today and you have the effect of the angel eyes, which can be seen in the day 👍🏾
I just brought a 04’ roadster, and I agree with the cheap plastic feel inside the car. They are not built the same as the older bimmers, but then again the older ones had quality problems as well. That’s just one of the trade offs from owning a BMW vs let say a Toyota for example. My roady is only a weekend toy that sits in the garage, so it will stay preserved.
There are only 1800 E86 coupes in the world. You can either buy one when it becomes available or wait and see if one with a manual comes up for sale. (The people who have manuals are NOT selling them - I wouldn't either.) The automatic does have a Manual/Sport mode and paddle shifters on the steering wheel, for what it's worth. My 2007 3.0si coupe is amazing fun to drive even though it's the "crap automatic version".
Ok I agree with ten out of thirteen, my biggest frustration is the water on the rear hatch and where the hell is the front of the car. Other than that what a beauty.
As for the rear view mirror. You have two perfect options to fix this. One is a dash mounted rear view mirror which i think goes great on small sports cars. The other is your choice of any one of the countless lcd screen reverse camera options available.
Very honest reflection of some of the not so good elements of the Z4 design and build. I also own a white coupe, a 2009 3.0 Si, and the steering for me is the hardest to get my head around. If it was great it wouldn’t play on my mind so much but it just doesn’t feel natural. Still love the car and share similar dislikes. It would have been interesting if they kept making a coupe and how they could have evolved it. Maybe it will reappear but the styling of these will always be hard to too!
Bought my first BMW in September 1990, and I have had at least one ever since. Got my 2007 Z4 3.0si coupe in 2015. It's not my daily driver (2014 428 xi). My Z4 only gets wet when I wash it, so the window pit not an issue. Agree with the cheap feel of some interior panels, the cup holders are useless IMO. My climate knobs are not quite as loose as yours - maybe yours were abused by a previous owner? I'm OK with the trunk release. I have that same dash trim and it's cracking in several places. Ride quality does depend on the roads, although I keep putting run-flats on the car - I'd like to see more abt non-RFT's. Steering feel - same - car is "swimmy" on the interstate at cruising speeds. I've seen on the Z4 forum that it's a simple adjustment - gonna see if my mechanic is familiar. Rear-view - eventually you adjust it so that you can see pretty far behind you on the highway and just compromise at close range. Side mirrors - I don't like that "tip-down" feature and have it disabled on my 428. My driver's side, however, fogged up (which is common) and I have the replacement in hand - yet to install. Exhaust cut out was just a design feature of BMW's at that time similar to the kinked "C" pillar - it was across the entire line. I'm OK with the halo, I actually end up running with parking lights on pretty frequently because the instrument cluster is so far back in that binnacle that it's in shadow and can't be read. Side reflectors - blame the US govt. for that. The long hood is what makes the design of the car, but it does make it hard to drive as you said, and also you can't judge how wide it is at the front wheels. Another item I'd point out, and it's common to coupes in general, is the length of the doors. You have to look for extra wide parking spaces or park far away from other cars, and when you get back you may still find that someone has parked too close for you to be able to get in to your car. A particular problem for me as I'm 6'5" and need to open the door fully in order to be able to get in the car. My 428 has the same issue.
Totally agree with #9! Honestly, I love the look of the interior, including the HVAC dials, it looks distinctive. Only the E89 is better imo. The cheap feel never bothered me 😂
Absolutely beautiful video mate, I think your channel is going to get very big soon. I also have a Z4 but a roadster 3.0i, its my favorite car of all time.
Agree on #2. The rest, Hmm, it is how the car is designed, I presume. Any technical problems so far? I'm thinking to get one 2007 E86 but worrying about the auto transmission issues.. Thanks!
I've owned the car since 58k miles to 95k miles now and I've had 0 transmission issues. My only issues relate to well know oil leaks like the valve cover gasket, oil filter gasket, and my oil pan gasket is going, and replacing a wear and tear item of the front control arm bushing. I'm still waiting for water pump/thermostat to fail and ignition coils, but they are still going strong. It may sound like a lot but it's a older car now. This engine is probably one of the most reliable BMW has. Here's a good video explanation of some things I have experienced and waiting to experience: ruclips.net/video/WR_aXg3zpWY/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Awesome video, awesome car. I usually lean towards black paint jobs but your white Z4 is very nice! I love my N52B30, made a video last week with the sound. Keep rockin’
You've raised some pertinent issues for which I am very grateful for. there are some very obvious design flaws with the Z4 to be considered B4 purchasing one. thank you!
I've had two 3.0Si Coupes and now have an MC. To be fair I think the biggest issues with your car are that it is white, has an Autobox and wood trim. And the reflectors do it no favours - UK Ms don't have any thankfully and also have HPAS plus no run-flats! But any E86 is a great car.
Love the structure, content, filming, and organisational set up. You should consider doing this on a regular basis. However, it sounds like you are not really into sports cars (cheap or not). Keep up the good work!!
Wood trim cracked all over on mine, it was a absolute pain in the ass to replace. I love the wood dash alot. now two years later the plastic around the shifter trim cracked.. Mind you it is garaged and sees no drastic temp changes.
Agree, except I'm thinking the electronic boot (trunk) is more for the roadster. As of its light enough it opens itself. Like the struts on the bonnet (hood) assist. It's annoying that the boot release on the key fob is pretty much useless. Unless... You retrofit some self opening ties to that button... I've thought about it.
The boot doesn't open by itself on the roadster. My pet hate is hazards by the hand brake. (E-brake in America?) Does anyone else catch it when they release the ?brake?
I have the M. 1st to 2nd isn't "shocking"! Sure it's a very mechanical feel, which gets smoother when warm, but shocking? Must something wrong with yours?
As a western european driver I can only comment that this car is European! So all the driving and handling issues, thats the whole key of this car. You cant expect BMW sports car handling with the comfort of French Citroen suspension. If you want a practicle car take the Carolla. Everything you say for a fact is correct, dont get me wrong, just if you buy a tiger dont expect a kittykat. So if you cant park or drive a car, dont blame the car. As for the water and cosmetic issues, thats a big shame on BMW. The German brand should not compromise on this or even bring cars into the market wirh design flaws (mirror and water). I drove a Camaro and a Mustang in Europe. Not my kind of car. I love the power and rough handling. But they are so NOT suffisticated. so rough, so forgiving, so far away from feeling the road. I mention this cause its probably the same issue just other side of the ocean. Its not made for this asfalt and mentallity. I guess its the typical US approach vs the European approach. I love the review. really really cool. And for the OCD, im totally with you there !!
Wow, sounds like you bought the wrong car for you. This is a 15+ year old sports car design. Compromise is part of the design brief! Get an SUV if that annoys you. If you think the ride is harsh, don't ever get in an M Coupe! Unless you're out of the city on some deserted winding roads, that is.... Then you'll never want a non-M again. Hard, raw, connected, fast... everything an M car should be. Steering feel in spades from the M3CSL hydraulic rack, and brakes from the CSL too. The S54 engine with ITBs noise!! BMW M differential. Its no daily driver, it'd drive you nuts city commuting, but that's not what it was designed for. Horses for courses. Decide what course you're on...the M would make you forget about items 1 to 13! 😉👍
@@DrewZ4 don't wait too long, they're going up already but that's going to change rapidly over the next couple of years when people wake up to its unique combination of qualities, lost forever. And it's very rare. A sure winner!
It is true everything you said I have a z4 and the truth is a car that is nice to see but it is not beautiful to drive it is uncomfortable you do not have good vision the steering of the steering wheel is the worst I have ever had and the interiors are very very cheap, excellent video

Sounds to me like you bought the wrong car. It’s a shame to have so many things you dislike but poor rear view, long hood, stiff suspension…really?
I’d be disliking the fact you got the crap automatic version more than anything.
Nothing wrong with the ZF auto box - its a great box.
Oh dear ….clearly an uninformed opinion…
@@markpass4215 who would want a slush box in an entry level sports car!?

100% agree on adding mirror position to memory settings. Would be a fantastic feature. BTW, I do own a 2007n E86 ... I speak from practical knowledge.

Ride quality is due to your run flat tires. After that, change the dampers to monotube digressive valve such as MeisterR
I have already changed out the run flats and that definitely helped. Suspension will be next
