- Torn by war for three decades, the government in Mogadishu has long sought international support, both to keep its territory intact and to reach a lasting peace at home. But those hopes are now under pressure, from many angles. Türkiye, which has close defence ties with Somalia, recently signed a cooperation deal to help boost its maritime security. The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, spoke to Strait Talk about the risks his country is facing.

1600 to 1889 Domalia was an Omani Slave trade outpost.. Turkey had no interaction with Somalia. In 1889 Oman sold Domalia to Italy for 60,000Lira. Somalia was a Colony of Italy until it became a UN trusteeship 1950 to 1July1960.
In 1july1960 Trusteeshio of Somalie was transfered to The Somali- Republic... Somalia has never been a recognised country it was transfered to the Union of Somali-Republic. The Somali-Republic Union's constitution claims all lands where the Somali language is spoken including NFD-Kenya, Kilil5-Ethiopia etc... Somali-Republic only legitimately and legaly gained the territory of Somalue-trusteeship. The Somalu-Republic is thus an expansionist entity.

Somaliland isn't a break away region but it was a historical independent country, somaliland got independent from UK, somalia also got independent from Italian, somaliland has been independent country last 33years, somaliland withdrawal from the union and has the right to run there own government just like turkey.

We Somalis are welcoming the ground-breaking defence and economic agreement between our federal Somalia government and Turkey.
Turkey is good friend with Somalia because besides the long relationship with Turkey, Turkey was there when Somalia were begging the world for help, President Erdogan was the first head of state that came to Mogadishu even though the conditions were very difficult for anyone to visit Mogadishu the capital. At the time of the Erdogans visit, there were more conflicts and famine. "The friend in need is a friend indeed."

Turkey's government plays a significant role in the political dynamics between Somaliland and Somalia. It's crucial for Turkey to respect the sovereignty of both entities while acknowledging the current issues, as this approach can pave the way for constructive diplomatic dialogue. Resuming talks between Somaliland and Somalia under Turkey's guidance could greatly contribute to enhancing stability and fostering cooperation in the region. President Guelleh's leadership is instrumental in addressing the key issues that affect the future relationship between Somalia and Somaliland, and Turkey's involvement could further facilitate progress in this regard.
The MoU b/w Somaliland and Ethiopia is not aggression , but it is mutual understanding based on of interests for two regions. since establishing Somaliland in 1991 , Somaliland have signed agreements with UAE , EU and Ethiopia for this time , Ethiopia granted for Somaliland to get full recognition as a sovereign state in return of pact of sea access and maritime base in Gulf of Aden . Hassan Sheikh was annoyed when President Musa Bihi signed with MoU with Ethiopia for deterrence of Somalia not to get it done , because hassan wants to do it and collected it his incentive from Ethiopia.
