This is the first in a series of videos on Junction Field Effect Transistors (JFETs) and Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFETs). This video show the basic operation of the device, an overview of the data sheet, and a brief experiment to show that the data sheet represents real world results.

What would motivate you to use a JFET instead of something more familiar?

Hi,
JFETS are quieter, noise wise, than MOSFETs below 1MHz or so while maintaining the high input impedance and low output impedances desirable in an amplifier.
