Oh Matt, I am not ready to do that. Its bad enough to put my videos together. Also dealing with the weather right now. I do know it is wonderful to watch and thank you so much in having such goodness for grandma. There are only a numbered amount of Navajo food to make. Seasonal and everyday. The ones who you need to find are the Navajo guys who cook up the food and watch them add spices that are not traditional but then watching them taste what they make its mouth watering. My dad was the best cook. I swear when he made scrambled eggs, there is no one even my Mom who could match the scrambled eggs my dad made. It was unreal. Guys have such a knack for this. How about you Matt? LOL! "Turning the tables on you brother." Seriously I love cooking outside and that is my heart. There is nothing like the smell of cedar while making frybread or Navajo tortillas. Then the aroma of the pungent anaheim chili's cooking over the coals. Nothing like it. I love that. Great comment. @Navajo Grandma I went to a trade school and took culinary arts as well as becoming a cook in the marine corps. I'm not a professional chef. But I think I cook pretty well. I love cooking and trying different ethnic foods. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I try to find ways to make different foods diabetic friendly, which is a discovery on its own. I have my first fry bread at my first powwow in Massachusetts (which is where I live), and I loved it. Especially the (as they called it ) Indian tacos. Thank you again. Be well, and God bless 😁

@@NavajoGrandmaHello, I live about 20 minutes from Hotchkiss near the town of Cedaredge. It is at the base of Grand Mesa. I just finished a big ol' Navajo taco! I fried the bread in my Grandma's cast iron skillet. She got it as a wedding gift in 1920, so it is 103 years old! I cooked my pinto beans and mayocoba beans all day long on my wood stove. You're absolutely right, our hands are the best tools! I remember my mother's stories cooking all day for everyone that worked on the farm. They would start at 4 am, end at 8 pm, 365 days...vacations didn't exist...food kept "the hands happy"... nothing fancy, just nutritional and high in calories. Really love your stories!!

Well grandma you will so enjoy this and I promise you will be remembered forever. I used meat off the ribs I baked and it was melting in the mouth and tender. Oh my goodness! My son almost fainted. He was amazed at how wonderful it tasted. Gpa wanted more LOL! Its a taste that you can't but describe as heavenly. My Mom's cooking outside always made my mouth water. @donnapollock Before you get excited there are a numbered amount of Navajo dishes to make. Adding other native tribal dishes would enhance this. Being in the reservation doesn't have a plethora of cuisine cooking. Oh Brandy don't we all miss our mothers. I told God the day my Mother passed away, "I didn't think moms and dads died." Why did you allow that God? It was such a huge talk I had with God with tons of tears I thought wouldn't stop. But here we are still moving forward and remembering the best of our mothers. Celine I should not be promoting carbs or white flour, BUT it is hard. Remember white flour and all these ingredients are not good for our bodies. BUT I have tried talking myself into healthy eating, then THIS! Well this is what I was taught, "eat in moderation." Meaning DON'T MAKE THIS A HABIT. NIBBLE HERE AND THERE, just now and then. I don't want to promote bad eating habits BUT AGAIN, before you make this and eat this SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, BLESS IT, PRAY FOR THE CARBS TO SWEETLY FLOW THRU AND OUT YOUR BODY, but that the goodness and tasty parts will bring YOU JOY!! @Navajo Grandma oh I understand it's very hard sometimes especially when it has amazing flavor 😋 😄 yes I agree! My way of eating is "I eat to live, not live to eat", I've been eating as organic and little processed foods as possible. Actually now I'm going even deeper into learning how to preserve, can, jar and dry my fresh foods that I'm going to try to grow myself 🙂 food is definitely fuel and has to be respected in order to be good for our bodies. I use to stand besides my mom as she did the tortillas. My job was to pat them down with a cloth & flip while they cooked on the comal. Yummm carnitas and fresh homemade tortillas they are the best! Thanks Grandma for bringing back the memories!

It's 1 a.m. And you're making me hungry. I've been making tortillas years, but wanted to see how others here make them. I wanted to see how you pat out the dough. I've seen frybread and tortillas deep fried, cooked on a hot pan with a thin film of oil which is healthier, and cooked on a dry comal/griddle. But Grandma, yours is the best. OMG, chiles and tortillas cooked over wood coals! I love Big Jims. Birds singing in the background, robins and jays... and the sound of clean, rushing wind! It must be spring, according to the birds? I'm vegetarian, but the whole thing still made me hungry. And you're the only one who also taught us new words. Thank you!

Oh my goodness! I can almost smell and taste that! I still make it for my friend's and myself. When the old cast iron wood fired cook stove was hot enough my mother would chuck chillies and other yummy veggies down on the top of the stove till they looked like your's! I love this! Amazing! Love to learn from other cultures. Recently I discover that my kids have at least 13% Native in their DNA. Maybe it doesn't sound like much, but it makes me feel proud of my roots. I'm from Puerto Rico and for many years they made us believe that there was nothing left of that. I am so happy I found this channel! My grandmother was Diné. She passed away shortly after my dad (her son) died in 1984. I was just 2 months old and I never knew my Navajo side. For years I felt the pain and emptiness of not having my grandma or father. But not only that... not having my identity as being Navajo. Not having family to tell me stories and teach me about my heritage. Finding Navajo Grandma's channel has helped to fill this void. It actually brings me to tears. Will you be my Navajo Grandma? Thank you for all of your videos. It makes such an amazing impact on my life and the life of others. I wish my native family was alive. I wish I knew how to speak Diné. Watching these videos helps me understand my ancestors and their way of life. I have never stepped foot on the reservation. There is so much of me, that I feel is missing. My dearest Christina, yes, I am your Navajo Grandma, maybe not in real life or by DNA but here I am and I am so honored. Thank you for finding grandma. I always say to those who are new, come sit by grandma and her fire and warm your feet, come listen and hear her stories, her life and see your culture and tradition's thru her eyes and how she grew up. I was given to my Paternal grandparents, just for you to know, our Paternal grandfather is called "Nali" and our Paternal grandmother is called "Bizhi." Our Maternal grandfather is called "chei" and our Maternal grandmother is called "shi masani" "Shi" means my, mine. You can say, "Shi Nali, Shi Bizhi, Shi Chei, Shi Masani." Then I have shared most of the times I spent with them, how we traveled in a wagon and just life in general and how they taught me. I never learned English until I was 10 years old as my father explained to some missionaries I didn't know how to speak english and how was I going to talk with them? They said no problem, they put oil on my head and gave me a blessing. When I met my white foster parents the first thing from my mouth was, "Hi Mom and Dad, my name is Frankie blah blah blah." I almost fainted but I knew exactly what I said, I heard everything everyone spoke, it was clear, it was so wonderful, it was like a light turning on, the joy it gave to me filled me with wonder and awe and just happiness. Like a light bulb turning on in a dark room. I always heard white folks talk as we were the only Navajo family who had moved into a white town long ago. I use to sing in english and knew every word and songs but didn't know what I was singing. Now I did and I was overjoyed. So that is my story and my language. I did forget some Dine' Bizaad but eventually being around Shi Bizhi and Shi Nali, it all came back to me so quickly. I loved it. You are blessed to grow up where you did and I hope you realize how wonderful your mother is. Someday you will go to the reservation and see who you are and how many of your people are suffering. That is why Navajo Grandma is running for Navajo Nation President. Its unheard of to have a woman for president but its time. Too many many Navajo men have failed thus its time for a woman to lead. Im Navajo and during traveling a job to Utah from Abq, we passed through Shiprock. They stopped to eat at taco bell there, but I went to the roadside stand for a meal just like this. $5 for the naneeskadi & mutton w/ green chile, and a $1 for the root beer soda. Those guys in the truck with me were kicking themselves because it smelled sooooo guuud and i wouldnt share as they already ate at taco bell.

I moved to texas and fell in love with the Mexican food and I know if I live in your neighborhood you’d never get rid of me I’d be eating at your house everyday. My friends in texas are just like that . Have you eaten! I never went hungry . I made sure that I learned to cook every Mexican dish before I moved. I’ve been in NH for two years and I hate it here. I miss my morning tacos and you have me drooling over here. There is not one place here that has any tacos Mexican or native . More native need to open up restaurants all over .crazy but all my life my friends have been native from many tribes . I just lost two very close friends brother and sister from the Dakota’s within three days of each other. Their parents were very gracious people and I miss them so much.
Sad to hear of the loss of dear friends. Aside from that, you had me rolling in laughter then sobered me up pretty quick with the last notes. I do understand what you are saying. I was in Japan and almost died without frybread. Their flour was too fine like pastry flour. Eventually I was able to make some and floated for a while then back to rice and teriyaki this and that. I have to admit it was delish though. All you need to do is fix the fixin for yourself and you won't need to search high and low for Mexican or Dine' food silly. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

That Navajo/Apache friend of mine used to make beans and rice and tortillas.....those home-made tortillas make the store bought ones taste like crap.....even though there was no meat...you didn't miss it.....the seasoning she used made it taste soooo gooood.

Oh Matt, I am not ready to do that. Its bad enough to put my videos together. Also dealing with the weather right now. I do know it is wonderful to watch and thank you so much in having such goodness for grandma. There are only a numbered amount of Navajo food to make. Seasonal and everyday. The ones who you need to find are the Navajo guys who cook up the food and watch them add spices that are not traditional but then watching them taste what they make its mouth watering. My dad was the best cook. I swear when he made scrambled eggs, there is no one even my Mom who could match the scrambled eggs my dad made. It was unreal. Guys have such a knack for this. How about you Matt? LOL! "Turning the tables on you brother." Seriously I love cooking outside and that is my heart. There is nothing like the smell of cedar while making frybread or Navajo tortillas. Then the aroma of the pungent anaheim chili's cooking over the coals. Nothing like it. I love that. Great comment. I went to a trade school and took culinary arts as well as becoming a cook in the marine corps. I'm not a professional chef. But I think I cook pretty well. I love cooking and trying different ethnic foods. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I try to find ways to make different foods diabetic friendly, which is a discovery on its own. I have my first fry bread at my first powwow in Massachusetts (which is where I live), and I loved it. Especially the (as they called it ) Indian tacos.

@@NavajoGrandmaHello, I live about 20 minutes from Hotchkiss near the town of Cedaredge. It is at the base of Grand Mesa. I just finished a big ol' Navajo taco! I fried the bread in my Grandma's cast iron skillet. She got it as a wedding gift in 1920, so it is 103 years old! I cooked my pinto beans and mayocoba beans all day long on my wood stove. You're absolutely right, our hands are the best tools! I remember my mother's stories cooking all day for everyone that worked on the farm. They would start at 4 am, end at 8 pm, 365 days...vacations didn't exist...food kept "the hands happy"... nothing fancy, just nutritional and high in calories. Really love your stories!!

Well grandma you will so enjoy this and I promise you will be remembered forever. I used meat off the ribs I baked and it was melting in the mouth and tender. Oh my goodness! My son almost fainted. @donnapollock Before you get excited there are a numbered amount of Navajo dishes to make. Adding other native tribal dishes would enhance this. Being in the reservation doesn't have a plethora of cuisine cooking. Oh Brandy don't we all miss our mothers. I told God the day my Mother passed away, "I didn't think moms and dads died." Why did you allow that God? It was such a huge talk I had with God with tons of tears I thought wouldn't stop. But here we are still moving forward and remembering the best of our mothers. Glad Navajo Grandma could bring some wonderful memories and evening moments of missing how dear our mothers were and still are though we are not with them in body. They are aware of us truly. Celine I should not be promoting carbs or white flour, BUT it is hard. Remember white flour and all these ingredients are not good for our bodies. BUT I have tried talking myself into healthy eating, then THIS! Well this is what I was taught, "eat in moderation." Meaning DON'T MAKE THIS A HABIT. NIBBLE HERE AND THERE, just now and then. I don't want to promote bad eating habits BUT AGAIN, before you make this and eat this SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, BLESS IT, PRAY FOR THE CARBS TO SWEETLY FLOW THRU AND OUT YOUR BODY, but that the goodness and tasty parts will bring YOU JOY!! @Navajo Grandma oh I understand it's very hard sometimes especially when it has amazing flavor 😋 😄 yes I agree! My way of eating is "I eat to live, not live to eat", I've been eating as organic and little processed foods as possible. Actually now I'm going even deeper into learning how to preserve, can, jar and dry my fresh foods that I'm going to try to grow myself 🙂 food is definitely fuel and has to be respected in order to be good for our bodies. I use to stand besides my mom as she did the tortillas. My job was to pat them down with a cloth & flip while they cooked on the comal. Yummm carnitas and fresh homemade tortillas they are the best! Thanks Grandma for bringing back the memories!

It's 1 a.m. And you're making me hungry. I've been making tortillas years, but wanted to see how others here make them. I wanted to see how you pat out the dough. I've seen frybread and tortillas deep fried, cooked on a hot pan with a thin film of oil which is healthier, and cooked on a dry comal/griddle. But Grandma, yours is the best. OMG, chiles and tortillas cooked over wood coals! I love Big Jims. Birds singing in the background, robins and jays... and the sound of clean, rushing wind! It must be spring, according to the birds? I'm vegetarian, but the whole thing still made me hungry. And you're the only one who also taught us new words. Thank you!

Oh my goodness! I can almost smell and taste that! I still make it for my friend's and myself. When the old cast iron wood fired cook stove was hot enough my mother would chuck chillies and other yummy veggies down on the top of the stove till they looked like your's! She alway's cooked enough so she could can them. Melt in your mouth! Thank you for sharing! A'HO 💚

I love this! Amazing! Love to learn from other cultures. Recently I discover that my kids have at least 13% Native in their DNA. Maybe it doesn't sound like much, but it makes me feel proud of my roots. I'm from Puerto Rico and for many years they made us believe that there was nothing left of that. But to this day there is still some of that heritage. Thanks for sharing your recipes and more. You are my new history teacher. Amazing all your knowledge. Many blessings to you!

Que rico! delicious!, im watching from Mexicali, my mom was not navajo, actually my dad is from Sonora and my mother from Chiapas, but she use to do me a flour tortilla with chilli Anaheim and carne asada, I miss my mom ;(

I am so happy I found this channel! My grandmother was Diné. She passed away shortly after my dad (her son) died in 1984. I was just 2 months old and I never knew my Navajo side. For years I felt the pain and emptiness of not having my grandma or father. But not only that... not having my identity as being Navajo. Not having family to tell me stories and teach me about my heritage. Finding Navajo Grandma's channel has helped to fill this void. It actually brings me to tears. Will you be my Navajo Grandma? Thank you for all of your videos. It makes such an amazing impact on my life and the life of others. I wish my native family was alive. I wish I knew how to speak Diné. Watching these videos helps me understand my ancestors and their way of life. I have never stepped foot on the reservation. There is so much of me, that I feel is missing. Thank you for bringing some of that back.
My dearest Christina, yes, I am your Navajo Grandma, maybe not in real life or by DNA but here I am and I am so honored. Thank you for finding grandma. I always say to those who are new, come sit by grandma and her fire and warm your feet, come listen and hear her stories, her life and see your culture and tradition's thru her eyes and how she grew up. I was given to my Paternal grandparents, just for you to know, our Paternal grandfather is called "Nali" and our Paternal grandmother is called "Bizhi." Our Maternal grandfather is called "chei" and our Maternal grandmother is called "shi masani" "Shi" means my, mine. You can say, "Shi Nali, Shi Bizhi, Shi Chei, Shi Masani." Then I have shared most of the times I spent with them, how we traveled in a wagon and just life in general and how they taught me. I never learned English until I was 10 years old as my father explained to some missionaries I didn't know how to speak english and how was I going to talk with them? They said no problem, they put oil on my head and gave me a blessing. When I met my white foster parents the first thing from my mouth was, "Hi Mom and Dad, my name is Frankie blah blah blah." I almost fainted but I knew exactly what I said, I heard everything everyone spoke, it was clear, it was so wonderful, it was like a light turning on, the joy it gave to me filled me with wonder and awe and just happiness. Like a light bulb turning on in a dark room. I always heard white folks talk as we were the only Navajo family who had moved into a white town long ago. I use to sing in english and knew every word and songs but didn't know what I was singing. Now I did and I was overjoyed. So that is my story and my language. I did forget some Dine' Bizaad but eventually being around Shi Bizhi and Shi Nali, it all came back to me so quickly. I loved it. You are blessed to grow up where you did and I hope you realize how wonderful your mother is. Someday you will go to the reservation and see who you are and how many of your people are suffering. That is why Navajo Grandma is running for Navajo Nation President. Its unheard of to have a woman for president but its time. Too many many Navajo men have failed thus its time for a woman to lead. It is a Matrilineal society so its just right. I hope you understand. Hugs always from Navajo Grandma

Im Navajo and during traveling a job to Utah from Abq, we passed through Shiprock. They stopped to eat at taco bell there, but I went to the roadside stand for a meal just like this. $5 for the naneeskadi & mutton w/ green chile, and a $1 for the root beer soda. Those guys in the truck with me were kicking themselves because it smelled sooooo guuud and i wouldnt share as they already ate at taco bell.

I moved to texas and fell in love with the Mexican food and I know if I live in your neighborhood you’d never get rid of me I’d be eating at your house everyday. My friends in texas are just like that . Have you eaten! I never went hungry . I made sure that I learned to cook every Mexican dish before I moved. I’ve been in NH for two years and I hate it here. I miss my morning tacos and you have me drooling over here. There is not one place here that has any tacos Mexican or native . More native need to open up restaurants all over .crazy but all my life my friends have been native from many tribes . I just lost two very close friends brother and sister from the Dakota’s within three days of each other. Their parents were very gracious people and I miss them so much.
Sad to hear of the loss of dear friends. Aside from that, you had me rolling in laughter then sobered me up pretty quick with the last notes. I do understand what you are saying. I was in Japan and almost died without frybread. Their flour was too fine like pastry flour. Eventually I was able to make some and floated for a while then back to rice and teriyaki this and that. I have to admit it was delish though. All you need to do is fix the fixin for yourself and you won't need to search high and low for Mexican or Dine' food silly. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

That Navajo/Apache friend of mine used to make beans and rice and tortillas.....those home-made tortillas make the store bought ones taste like crap.....even though there was no meat...you didn't miss it.....the seasoning she used made it taste soooo gooood.
