Pure blue eyed soul. They weren't brothers though, the story goes that they were singing at a club a few black guys shouted out "that's righteous brothers" after hearing them sing so they kept the name. The tall one is Bill Medley and the smaller is Bobby Hatfield. Their song (you're my) Soul And Inspiration is just as brilliant so is Rock And Roll Heaven. Bobby sings Unchanged Melody on his own but it's always billed as the two of them.

Love these videos with your wife! You need to introduce her to "Unchained Melody" as performed by Righteous Brother Bobby Hatfield.

    • @breckrichardson390

Definitely. And the live version of that one is better than the studio version, which usually isn't the case.

  • @jeffdetmer4681

They are not brothers guys. They were playing a concert in the south under a different name, and after the show a young marine was walking past them and said That was righteous brothers. They kept the name. The boys were Bill Medley (deep voice) and Bobby Hatfield. You have to let your wife hear Bobby singing Unchained melody. You want the video where he is wearing the pink sport coat. It has been called the greatest live pop performance ever. Also on this song there was a chorus of voices behind them. One of the singers was a young girl just trying to get started in the music biz and her name was Cherilynn Sarkasian. You would know her better by the one name she uses now. Cher.

This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Another great song by them is "(Your My) Soul & Inspiration". Also try "Unchained Melody" with Bobby Hatfield doing it solo. Best version ever!

The most commonly reacted to version is a real live performance but there was such a huge amount of crowd noise that the studio audio recording was dubbed over it for the YT video. The same live version with the crowd noise is on YT but I've only seen one reaction to it.

Ohmygosh this may be the first time I’ve seen a black millennial female not be fanning herself after the “on my knees” lyric;)
This is back in the day where you couldn’t hide behind an autotune.

Got to see them live in the mid-80s during their 25th anniversary tour; they were still great!! Bobby died in 2003 and Bill is 81 now.. still ‘active’, but I don’t believe he’s doing much any more. They were an amazing team.. a staple of the late 60s and 70s. Thanks for a nice reminder of their glory days!

This song was the most played song (radio and TV) of the 20th Century, it’s listed in the Library of Congress as having ‘significant influence’ on music, and recorded in the Rock’n Roll of fame…. As are the Righteous Brothers themselves, who were inducted in 2003. This was their first ballad …. Up to this point they had been doing R&B and had several rock numbers in the top 40. They were not brothers …. Met up in ‘62 when they had their own bands - and they sang together off and on until Bobby’s death in 2003.
