"All of those sounds" come courtesy of genius DSOTM Sound Engineer and legendary recording artist Alan Parsons. You've reacted to "Eye in the Sky" by his group, "The Alan Parsons Project". One of their songs that is reminiscent of the grittiness of Pink Floyd's "Money" is "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You". Also check out The Alan Parsons Project songs "Time", "Games People Play", "Breakdown", and "Old and Wise".

This is the song that turned me on to hi fidelity. I grew up poor and while I absolutely loved music, I had never heard a good stereo. Then I needed a ride home from work one day (back in 1978) and my buddy offered to help me out. I sat in the passenger seat of his 1969 Camaro SS and as we pulled out of the parking lot, he played this through his after market Alpine deck at very high volume.
I had never heard music the way it was supposed to be heard before and this masterpiece instantly put me on a mission to get a good stereo.

Most likely that "sound" is Gilmore's guitar run through an old reverb amp. Back in the day, reverb effects like that were made by running the sound through a metal box with two long springs strung across it. That's the springy sound you hear. The reverb box usually sat in the bottom of the amplifier just below the speaker. So if you happened to bump it, it would sound like lightning. It's old technology from the vacuum tube era. But, delivers a sound hard to reproduce digitally. CCR used it a lot too.

Hey Jay, that noise you were asking about was done by a wah wah pedal (I think).
The noises at the beginning were from a cash register tape loop, the sounds of tearing paper and bags of coins being thrown into an industrial food-mixing bowl.
This album stayed on the Billboard Top 100 for 778 weeks. That's 14 years!
The people you can hear talking at the end came from interviews they did with random people, their road manager and Paul & Linda McCartney.
    Amazing stuff! ✌🇦🇺🙃

    • @peterwalsh2470
      @peterwalsh2470 3 года назад +7

not exactly a wah, closer to a vibrato effect, an effect built-in to some older amplifiers, but it cuts the volume out in quick repetition, the frequency that it cuts out can be adjusted for different effects, more commonly used in older guitar sounds from the 60s. was also used on the vocals in "crimson and clover" by the shondells.

    "Why does anyone do anything?"
"I don't know, I was really drunk at the time!"
"I was just telling him it was in, he could get it in Number Two. He was asking why it wasn't coming up on freight eleven. After, I was yelling and screaming and telling him why it wasn't coming up on freight eleven. It came to a heavy blow, which sorted the matter out."

If the frantic rush of life can drive people crazy; (On The Run).
If the time that passes too quickly can drive people crazy; (Time).
If the inevitable end, death can drive people crazy; (The Great Gig In The Sky).

If the illusion of being able to choose can drive people crazy; (Any Color You Like).
If what a soldier endure on a battlefield can drive people crazy; (Us And Them).
All of this can certainly result in; (Brain Damage).

But anyway, (I'll see you on the dark side of the moon).

Wow!!! what an impact reaction!, id forgotten just how MASSIVE this track actually is and i've heard it a 1000's times in so many years. A lesson for US in remembering what was truly great and influential within music through the medium of being able to watch a new generation cast their judgement. I'm floored!

The UK might be very small but it's HUGE in music...Pink Floyd, Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, E.L.O., UB40, The Police, The Kinks, Slade, Queen, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Moody Blues, The Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, The Who, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, etc, etc, and I'm only including some bands that came to my mind here.

There is never been another band like Pink Floyd. I think they started around 1970 and just finally broke up and retired not long ago. David gilmour on the guitar and lead vocals is another one of the greatest guitarists there has ever been. When you watch him play on my video it's like he's barely doing anything and all that magic just blows out. Then he sings while playing, the man is incredible and probably pushing 70 years old.
