The Government keeps one upping it's game. Soon those feathered spy drones would prove to be too adorable (well, they already are but we can still manage them)
Yeah. I was ready for a neglect story, but got something much better. Glad they were able to get these birds a new home. I wonder if the previous owner has seen this video.
OMG, these birds are gorgeous! I've never seen them before. Really looking forward to seeing them getting settled and living a good life in their new environment.
Wow she's beautiful and watching her making so much progress is so satisfying. Thank you so much Jessi for sharing your knowledge with us. Love from Mauritius ❤
These two are lovely new additions to your animal family. I think you will have them as enchanting and engaging ambassadors in no time at all given their relative ease with you already. I am also pretty sure they will have more play and enrichment in their new lives than had they remained pets of a single family (no matter how hard the family tried). You are so good with ALL your charges, and I believe they instinctively know you are a safe person for them to trust. You may just have received a couple of new fan favourites...I just find them all beautiful and amazing...no favourites here. Stay safe and healthy while you ensure the same for your charges.🖤🇨🇦
Look at those tiny dinos! Turacos are the only truly GREEN birds in nature. Every other green bird has green from the structure of their feathers combined with yellow pigments, turacos have their own unique green pigment in the feathers!
Wow! I didn't know that. I knew about the rarity of _blue_ pigment in the animal kingdom, but not about the rarity of green pigment in birds. Structural colour is so fascinating. I remember the first time I saw a Blue Morpho specimen drenched in alcohol (which interferes with the structural colour), and the sped up footage of the blue colour coming back as it dried- it really made an impression on me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Just out of curiosity: Is there a reason Sunny seems much more calm around you and is more accepting of being touched? Like did she have more human interaction then Sprite before coming to animal wonders? Or is just a difference in their personalities?
Yes, that's exactly what happened. Sunny was handled quite a lot as a baby and when Sprite was introduced to the household she was both bullied by Sunny and also didn't get the same kind of interaction Sunny did. I was told Sprite never felt comfortable taking food from a hand let alone being touched.
Axolotl. Great question, it was really apparent how much more at ease Sunny was, and how skittish and wary Sprite was. I have no doubt that Sprite will be totally comfortable with her new care team in no time at all. Sprite is a real beauty, Sunny is too, but once she gets her sea legs I suspect that Sprite will be showing everyone who the Boss is.🖤🇨🇦
@@animalwondersmontana Hi ma'am I want to talk to you about how to switch my cockatiel parrot from a diet of sunflower seeds to a more healthy diet because he eats only sunflower seeds , please reply 🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@kanishkshahi5691 Look up the RUclips channel BirdTricks (Animal Wonders did a collab with them once). They have a ton of videos on what's a healthy diet for parrots and how to transition birds onto it.
Very nice looking birds. These should not be in the pet trade though like toucans so that part was disappointing but glad there in better hands now. Hopefully they adjust and become good ambassadors to help inform about there kind. Thats a good brand of pellet too, nice they will be getting quality food.
Good question! I've known some facilities that use anklets and jesses on their turacos, but a harness is more appropriate equipment for turacos due to the difference in leg strength between turacos and raptors. If we absolutely can't get Sunny to accept a harness, we may move toward using anklets and jesses, but it would definitely be less jdeal.
Sunny and Sprite are beautiful birds. I think Sunny will be a great ambassador too. You and your family are such so blessed. Thanks for the video and take care and be safe.
A high end per store locally had one f these couple years ago....2400 without cage. It was amazing in person, it was red crested. So beautiful and blew my mind.
My begnal/savanna mix (*Nala-Boujie*) is officially one month into her toilet training, but I still am having to pick my battles in regards to the harness and the furry Houdini. I loved this video of these two beauties, and Nalabou enjoyed it as well!! Here's to a life-long happy ambassador duo!
Jesse, I would love to see a tour of your facility. I love what you do! You always have these new spaces popping up. Also you never really talk about your domestic animals.
Ahh the ol' "Fear vs. Food" a.k.a the only reason I interact with most people. Maslows hierarchy of needs makes the thought process pretty simple for all creatures On the danger scale: Starvation > social anxiety On the one hand it's very easy to empathize with animals that aren't use to, or are already afraid of human interaction: but actually interacting with other humans......eh not nearly as easy, even if it's typically less dangerous/likely to result in getting nipped or scratched. Hahaha keep up all the wonderful work! Love your channel!
Oh thank you for the harness training demonstration. I have 2 green cheeks conures that I would like to train to accept a harness. Would you consider making a video of the overall progress with training a bird to accept a harness?
Thank you! Amazon has been doing that a lot lately and I don't know why. Can you send an email to animalwondersmontana@gmail.com and I can give you a different mailing address, we have a volunteer that has offered to accept packages when Amazon won't deliver to our po box.
Don't the turacos have a family member who is called "go away bird"? They are very beautiful! I imagine the little dinosaur ancestors of birds to look a bit like them. Thank you very much!
Hello Jessi! First of all, what a beautiful pair of birds! Where do they live in the wild? Turaco seems ike a spanish name... Secondly, why did you keep stroking you hand on your jeans before caressing the Turaco?
Turacos come from Africa! I was wiping my hand on my pants before I touched Sunny. Their food is all fruit so touching it makes my hands wet and sticky which would make them uncomfortable if I touched them without cleansing my fingers off first 🙂
For once I’m early! I wish I could have a pet but my dad has allergies and my mom’s landlord doesn’t let her :( When a new vid is posted I’m literally like “ I have to watch that!” And then RUclips goes “I don’t think so...”
Quick question: should turacos be able to be kept as pets? These birds struck me as the kind you'd only see in the wild, and I was surprised to hear that someone took them in as pets.
They make pretty awful pets. When they're young they can sometimes be affectionate, but as they mature they are very flighty and need a large space to hop and run along branches. The don't use their beak to climb like parrots, so they can never have their flight feathers clipped. They eat mostly fruits so their poop is liquidy and they make huge splattery messes. Some people try to keep them as pets, but it's nothing like keeping a parrot or even like pigeons and doves. So, in my opinion, the shouldn't be kept as a pet.
It was a really hard one. I'm so grateful when I know the previous owners love their animals and only want the best for them. My heart breaks for their loss and grief. If they want to, I keep an open line of communication and updates however frequently they need them until the hurt subsides a bit.
Do turaco bathwater turn green or red? There are accounts of turacos becoming less colorful after a storm and I am really curious how fast or how much water is involved!
I did a Wikipedia dive and apparently they are part of the same "otidimorphae" clade as bustards and cuckoos. Though distant, those might be their closest living relatives. I could not find the definition of "otidi" but scientists usually group birds based on head and beak shape.
Turacos are from the family Musophagidae translating to "Plantain eaters", they are not related to cuckoos and have nothing in common with them. They are softbill birds their diets are fruit based (low iron) and somewhat insects and leaves.
I don't know who keeps inventing these new kinds of bird but let me tell you, they nail it every time. These are some sweeties.
I can send you some the designs for cool new birds if you want. You do need a 3d printer though
Apparently, there's around 10,000 species of birds!

Sad that the owner had the allergic reaction but also kinda nice to hear a story where they were clearly loved instead of neglected
