I'd say it's very rare. It's beyond rare to even see an Aspen period, unless it's the Durango mimic. The Aspen was no head turner at all.But the R/T trim, hood, and tees makes this car look great. Its an important part of mopar history and very greatful it's being preserved and shared.Thank you so very much for this vid!

I got a 1979 Aspen R/T it's got a E 58 police 360 in it the same they used in the 300 and in the Lil Red it's got a automatic 727 TF and came with 3.23 sure grip I have a 3.55 sure grip in it anyway it's a great car for being what it is one of the last "Muscle Cars' of Dodge until the SRT cars

My Uncle has a 78 Dodge Aspen Super Coupe. It's pretty much mint, 360 automatic with lean burn, and all. It does have a bit of blowby from sitting, and the engine could use a refresh, but I believe it still has around 60,000 miles on it. Sweet sweet ride! I had no idea they made one with a factory 4 speed! That's so sweet!

  • @boodoglover

Nice car. All I remember about those cars was that they were troublesome and not very reliable and they would rust out too fast. The RT did have some cool features they even had a CB built into the radio. I liked the full size cars better. That electronic lean burn was very troublesome even in the full size cars. Hard starting, had to sit there with your foot on the gas or it would stall. We had a 77 grand fury that my mom drove for nearly 7 years and had lots of miles on it, but the car kept getting hit by other drivers and it was repaired lots. Now she's an old lady that dives a challenger and I'm not even allowed to drive it 🤠

What an amazing car! That, my friend, is my dream car. I've wanted a Aspen RT/Volare Roadrunner since I was a little kid in the '70s, I saw one once roughly around 1978 and thought it was the coolest car I had ever seen. I started seriously looking for one 12 years ago but they seldom come up for sale in my area and living in the snowbelt, rust free examples of any 1970s car are hard to find. There has only been 3 that I have seen in the 12 years, all Aspen R/Ts - a 1978 T-top in 2022 that sold within a couple of days before I could get to it, another '78 that the owner wants Super Coupe money for a non T-top, non #s matching 318 auto, and a 1980 that I bought yesterday. It doesn't have a T-top and needs a little bit of work but the color scheme of white with black R/T decals matches my 1975 Chrysler Cordoba so that's kind of cool. I would like a T-top version but I'm not waiting another 12 years. I've never seen a Volare Roadrunner for sale near me.
I'm a straight "Malaise Era" car guy so thanks for sharing your Aspen R/T with us.

Very nice Aspen! I'd say it is pretty rare with those options.
I had a '76 Volare with the 318 and 4 speed overdrive. It was a great highway cruiser. I'd get 25 mpg on trips. The F bodies don't get the recognition they deserve. They are great affordable candidates for a restomod if you can find a reasonably clean one.
Keep that one stock.... it's too rare to modify.

Oh, this brings back memories. I had a '78 Volare 318/4spd/T-top with the Funrider/Sunrunner packages when I was in the Navy in California in '85 (I think those were the package names - never have found confirmation, I'm afraid.) I used the T-tops a lot, and the cheap "pop-metal" zinc-oxide clamps didn't hold last well. I had a top fly off when I was in Texas (but stay intact!) so I drove across the country to Md with it silicone sealed and tied on with clothesline in mid-December. Once in Md, I had to go to a dealership with my father when he had a problem with their Dodge Colt, so I asked them about a replacement T-top. After a bunch of blank stares and bringing them out to look at my car, they started poring over the books (mid-80's wasn't so far removed from '78.) They finally decided that mine was one of 15 made in that configuration, so your numbers are probably not that far off for that specific configuration.
Really miss that car. 30mpg highway with the OD 4spd, reasonable power, handled really well for the time and was far more comfortable. My biggest problem was the starter ballasts - seems like I blew them about every 6 months for the 3 years I had the car. Would still have it if it wasn't for Md laws at the time about inspection and the military - that's a whole different (and much longer) story.

I had a 77 Aspen and a 78 Aspen, both with 318. The 78 got hit in the passenger door and while looking for parts I came across a 78 R/T in a salvage yard that had been mostly parted out. It was missing motor and transmission, but it had what I needed. Ended up building a very hopped up 360 engine and 727 transmission and put them in the 77 along with a rear end out of Aspen station wagon, but the body of the car just couldn't handle the torque they put on it and the body started cracking behind the driver's door and I sold it after that. But those cars were fun! I would have loved the 4 speed. ... Thanks for sharing your video! Great car!

Went through 2 incarnations and ended up a 340 4speed 8 3?4 rear end car. Was a wild ride. I put it down 2 summers ago... just sat and rotted. he couldn't bear to get rid of it, so he had it towed to my place to get rid of it. Still have the 340 in my garage...

That's a Awesome and tough looking Aspen!!!
I'm a new subscribe and a brother in cars. I've grown up with Muscle Cars & Classics. My first car was a 1965 Chevy Impala SS with a L88 327 V8, powerglyde, Cherry red, black interior, posi rearend and one of the GREATEST things to me with it is it even came with a glass bottle under the hood that had windshield washer fluid in it and it was still factory sealed. My next car was a 1971 Chevy Monte Carlo with a 402 engine that someone before me had dropped into it and got rid of the 350. It has a 350 turbo transmission and could do a one wheel peel like nobody's business. The 402 was beat, tired, hurt and limping along. I threw more money then I should of at it, but could never get it running right. When I decided to replace the vinyl roof with a brand new one that was giving to me my a friend of my Dad's and seen th crack and cut line for attempted T-tops that they never got completely installed that almost lined up to a T with the break in the frame. I sold the car to a couple in our Car group and took the money as a down payment on a car I was going to save until I found it 1973 Chevy Camaro Type Lt 350 engine bored out to a 383 stroker motor a B&M 400 Transmission with a bump shift, 2000 stall converter, and Shift kit. The motor had the Edelbrock RPM street power top end kit with trick flow heads, Air rapper high rise intake, 700cfm electric choke edelbrock edelbrock carb, edelbrock cam,
Accel electric igintion, Accel super coil, MSD box, hooked headers, trush glass packs

      Hit the wrong button.
Trush glass pack mufflers that were split open all baffling taken out and welded back together.
Also on the list of goodies
New Cool Radiator, 2 Electric fans, Oil filter rerouted to on the passenger front fender, battery went in the trunk, Oil, transfluid and brake fluid catch cans next to the oil filter relocated spot, AC was deleted not by me,but it was still deleted and not in a good or professional way, electric exhaust cutouts, High rise rear spoiler, full front bumper, front chin spolier, New anti-swaybar front and rear, subframe connectors air shocks and a COMPLETELY BADASS RAKE!! Power disc brakes front and rear with slotted and drilled rotors, New upper & lower ball joints, inner & outer the rod ends, top and bottom A-arms, traction bars, Half Moon headlight covers, 3 inch cowl hood, Front fender Camaro and 383 badging, hood Emblem C, quarter panel sail Type Lt and trunk lid Camaro and Type LT center cap of steering wheel radio delete but didn't want on or need it and finally 16inch rims with beauty rings and center caps. They weren't for the camaro or any camaro or pony, small or midsize car because they stuck out the quarter panel enough I could sit on them. I changed the front to the small size rim being 16's but they weren't as wide or even close to it but they both fit. Matter of fact they might have been for either my dad and mom's 1970, 1971 or 1972 Chevy Monte Carlos that they 1971 and 1972 were completely stock, numbers
Matching and original equipment used down to the oil filters, plug wires, wiper blades and spark plugs that came in it from the factory. The 1970 was going that way now it has a stroked, blueprinted, balanced and all the goodies 427 motor with a 5 speed, posi, New power, leather, heated and cooled, massage equiped, with Pioneer audio, 6 speakers, 2 pairs of tweeters, 2 10 inch subwoofers under the back seat and facing out(not annoying bass just enough to make the music good great), Ac, lowered 2 inch all around, big fat meats all around with cragers, semi blacked out taillights, turn signals, parking lights and a edge around headlight.
Anyway I had my Camaro until headed back from a car show I ended up in the hospital for 2 months, but I don't remember the 1st week. A young driver and his buddies were trying to race each other somewhere, I don't know and don't care. Anyway he turned into me, hit me drivers door from his turn lane and I was in the outside lane. I don't know if he stopped at the light but I know he didn't look or at least see me, I was doing at least 55mph and drove me into a telephone pole. I'm better, Camaro is gone to the Drag Race strip in the sky. I have the center cap from the steering wheel. So now it's time to move on and get something different then the rest of the family and alot in general.
I'm currently planning my trip for this weekend to go pick up my newest baby. She needs nothing to run and drive, but she needs a lot for her to be happy and around of who she is and to be respected with the company she is going to hang out with.
As this Saturday I welcome into my heart, my soul, my garage and my wallet a .....
      1978 Dodge Aspen RT.
I'm extremely extremely extremely excited, giddy, unpleasantly waiting to put some top end Parts to warm her up and lastly but not any less important. I'm excited for my oldest kid, my 17 year old daughter to get out in the garage with me. She is more excited then me I think she woke me up at 5 this morning like it was Christmas morning asking if I had heard from the seller yet. This weekend is going to be awesome .

I had a '79 Aspen R/T A57 E58 360-4 for 7 years. In about 2004 I decided to sell it, and I pimped it hard on the mopar forums of the time. I started the price out around $5500, and after nearly a year I had to practically give it away for $2000 because no one wanted it. I drove the people crazy on the forums, lowering the price a bit at a time and telling people how lucky they'd be to own it, its price was going to rise. I had no idea if the prices would rise or not, I was just saying whatever I could think of to unload it.

Was a shame that Chrysler rushed the F-Body cars into production in 1976. A vehicle that looked promising was a turd and ruined Chrysler's reputation for reliability. Notice I didn't mention rust. I'm a Mopar fanatic and recognize that Chrysler already had a bad reputation for rust problems. The F-Body cars did take that problem to an extreme, then the mechanical issues that plagued the 1st couple of years of production. The damage was done, the F-Body never recovered and Chrysler as a whole suffered as a result.

Also in or attached to the glove box. And inthe trunk under carpet or trunk mats. So I thought there were at least 3 to each car. That sucks that there is only one.
