I just tried the "no cry" method and it made my baby worse. It was to stay in the room with her, but to her it was like 'why are you here but not interacting with me'. so I switched the method I was using mid way during a sleep session and did this and my baby went down after the third check in. And she wasn't crying as hard either. Each baby is different and I can already tell my baby likes this one more.
Omg the no cry method kinda sucks, at least for my baby. I'm going to try this method and hope for the best. But I have a question, what if after the 3rd check in, or even a 4th or 5th, the baby is still crying heavily?...I'm worried that I might give in after a while. Like how how many check ins should do?...😢 I'm running on little to no sleep here..

When we go in for the 2 or so minutes to let the baby know we are around, do we stay until the baby has calmed down or do we only stay for a couple of minutes and leave whether the baby has calmed down or not?

@@rcg224 I first started with checking in 2,5,10,15,20 mins. When I noticed that was not working. I stopped checking in so often and timed 15 minutes from initial time of putting in crib. If he was still crying after 15 mins I’d take him out and reset. Start over check diaper, feed/nurse, cuddles, read a book or let him do some tummy time. When I saw signs of him being sleepy again we’d try again. It’s not easy at all and it breaks my heart still hearing him cry but it helps your mental health tremendously!
I know this is kind of off topic, but this really sheds light on why long periods of parent leave can improve health outcomes. As a teacher, I get 4 weeks of paid maternity leave. So hard to go back to work when the baby is so little!
Hiscock led one of the few long-term studies on the topic. It's a randomized controlled trial - the gold standard in medical science - with more than 200 families. Blogs and parenting books often cite the study as "proof" that the cry-it-out method doesn't harm children. But if you look closely, you quickly see that the study doesn't actually test "cry it out." Instead, it tests two other gentler methods, including the camping out method.
The only thing I don't agree with is not breastfeeding in the middle of the night. Formula is heavier and doesn't need a middle of the night feed but breastfeeding needs an extra feed. Once they are eating three meals a day and snacks it is less crucial but still encouraged by breastfeeding specialists
Starting Ferber tonight at 8 months, I tried to start a month or so ago but couldn’t take the crying. Fingers crossed. I wished I started earlier because now he’s sitting up
This works! I needed to be emotionally ready for baby to cry but baby slept after three rounds on the first night and has slept after one round since then. It seems barbaric lol but it really isn’t. Take a long weekend and get the process started. I wish I started a month earlier. I did it at 5 and a half months.
But as a caveat- you can tell when your baby is in distress. The cry is a little different. I picked up baby and all he needed was a burp and he went down to sleep in a few minutes
How’s it going now? How’s your baby sleeping now? Mine is 5 and half now, and we’re on day 4. It has been working amazingly for us! Although by day 4 feels a little like torture (for us) to let her cry starting at 12 minutes. Although her crying doesn’t sound deep and emotional as the first night.
I worked in a day care using this method in a very distorted way. Putting babies to sleep for times during the day when they were not tired and not in consistency with the parents methods and leaving the babies crying for hours without checking. I do not like or believe in this method. I understand and do not judge the family who needs and want to use it. But it needs to be done the right way
My husband and I we’re desperate so we started this method 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old baby The first 2 nights were very hard, but the third night she cried just a little bit. Since the fourth night she is been waking up once. She doesn’t sleep the 10-12 hours in a row but at least she is not waking up every 2 hours as she used to do. Every night since we started the training I put her in the crib and she doesn’t cry and in about 10-15 min she finally falls a sleep. My husband and I were skeptical about this method but in our experience it worked out.
Thank you for this informative video. I'm an epileptic with a four month old and the sleep deprivation has really messed with my seizure control. Our first two babies were great sleepers. This little man is ensuring he will always be the baby in the family, lol! Anyways, this video has given me more confidence starting this method. Wish me luck and thanks again!! :)

Hi! My baby is 5.5 months and for the last 2 nights Ive trying ferber but I chicken out after a couple of checks in as I can't cope with the crying... However I know I need to do it as my baby is waking minimum 5 times every night And I feed him to sleep every time😴😴
We are room sharing and put up a curtain to divide our bedroom! Our little man now has his own space! We ordered it from amazon- large curtains that are mounted onto the ceiling! Worked so far. This is night two of sleep training and last night I had to sleep in our living room- I know it’s going to be short lived, and then I’ll go back in bedroom once he’s gotten a hang of his routine
One thing they don't specifically address, only hint at,but i think it's key .... And what the touchy feely types don't get, is the newborn infant is in survival mode. Cries are their only means of communication. Between 4-6 months, babies start to recognize that "if i cry, they come." That's why this method is actually critical. And why the process works. It's the right balance of reassurance and "you're okay".
I think you misspoke at 6:57. From what I have read about Ferber, you do not restart the 3, 5, 10 time sequence throughout the night. It is 3,5,10 and then 10 onward for the rest of the night. Right?? Otherwise this is a great video and I was going to show it to my grandparents to get them on board but I think that error would throw them off.
I give you permission to love your baby. Pick up and hold your baby. It’s instinctual and natural. Love them, sing to them, comfort them, be with them.♥️
Always change a dialer if it needs changing. No sleeping through the night worths diaoer rash that could really make a baby uncomfortable an uncooperative further on anyways.
Thank you for the video. I'll have to start sleep training soon... I don't want to but my husband worries that I am not sleeping, and yes, he is getting all kinds of advice from his friends that I don't agree with. Maybe I'll give this method a try.
You stated to keep checking in until the baby’s falls asleep.. well what happens if the baby doesn’t fall asleep? Do you let the baby cry all night long and keep checking in until sunrise? At what point do the subsequent check ins should stop and know that the Ferber method is not working? I tried the Ferber method for 3 consecutive nights and my baby cried for 3.5+ hours until I gave in because apparently we’re supposed to “stop the check ins when the baby falls asleep”.
I have an 8 month old who sleeps through the night, but our night time routine to get to sleep isn't working anymore. It's taking up to 2 hours to get him to sleep. We have been feeding him to get to sleep and letting him fall asleep in our arms and then transitioning him to the crib. I know we need to move away from feeding to sleep, I'm just nervous about him crying 😭
How long to you continue the process of leaving and coming back before you pick the baby up and try again later? One hour, two hours or until they just finally fall asleep?
Hello friends. Can you write down short sleep training method here. Because I am from Uzbekistan and could not understand fully the language they are speaking. Please 🙏 please 🙏 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the video. This is great! What is your recommendation for diaper change? Because sometimes their diaper is full and it has to be changed.
Help!! My 5 month old wakes every 30min to an hour ALL night! I’m trying Ferber but my baby usually falls back asleep on his own after less than 5min of crying each time, but how do I get him to stop waking up every 30min. I only go in twice to feed him and the rest of the night I let him self sooth but it’s still constant wakings! What do I do?!
My baby started self soothing at about 6 weeks and that's when I started to train her and she falls asleep by herself without crying. But, of course, each baby is different.
@@sandraschindlerova573 Leave the baby's hands free and available for him to explore and put them in his mouth to self soothe. At 8 weeks your baby should know he has hands and start to explore with them. It's important that they can access to their hands. My baby is now 9 weeks. She has a hard time sleeping at late hours at night but i learned it's normal. She's very easy! She barely cries. She falls asleep in my arms and I put her in her crib. Not really "training". I think training should be done after 3 months. Hope this helps.
@@sandraschindlerova573 for future reference babies should not and cannot be sleep trained in any way before 12 weeks, the drowsy but awake should begin. Young babies cannot self soothe
My son did so at 6 weeks until I started giving him the pacifier he is now 9 weeks an I am over the pacifier because he won't sleep without it but I tried last night he kept his hands closer to his mouth an slept well until 10am I just feed an put him back to sleep. The pacifier once he is in deep sleep I remove, but I hate it now still trying to let him self soothe like before 7 weeks when we go back home where he has his crib he will fall back into his routine.
It kills me to imagine not feeding my baby throughout the night. He’s a chunky boy at 4.5 months so he’s not wasting away, but man I’m almost in tears just imagining it! Also not that you answer anyone’s amazing questions, but maybe someone will see my comment who has an idea.. my boy started teething at 3 months, he’s 4 months 3 weeks, & a week ago popped his 2nd tooth. He’s still going through a bit of the pain atm but slowly getting better as it makes its way through. Would I wait to start this method until they’re both fully through. First one is almost finished, maybe another week, and 2nd one would still have 3-4wks maybeee to fully come through. Thanks anyone who sees this 😂❤
Hello Dr. Nima, I just want to first say. This video is a great video and very helpful breakdown of the Ferber method. BUT I truly want to thank you for that closing statement you made at the end of the video. As a new parent I found myself doing THAT exact thing of comparing and it brought great reassurance to hear a fellow parent to admit it. I don't feel alone. Especially since I have other family members who have given birth roughly around the same time and they keep boasting about how magical their kids are. Thank you.
My baby beat the system… she cried for 2 straight hours until the point she started literally choking. I had to pick her up. It was like that for 3 straight nights. We tried everything we can’t get her to fall asleep on her own
Ok we understand the concept of sleep training but is there a point where the crying becomes so hysterical where you have to stop and intervene? We tried this method but after the first soothing our baby started getting even more hysterical after we left her again.
So my son cries hysterically, turns red, starts coughing. That sort of crying. It’s not “a little bit of crying”. He’s 6 months and stands supported. He’s fed, clean, healthy....do I STILL just let him cry? I’m really concerned.
Never let the baby cry if he wants to soothe in your lap, hold him and put him to sleep as he wants. Eventually babies get better with sleep training. You just keep trying sleep training. With some babies it takes time.
It took my first kid 1 day to sleep train. My second baby...after 2 weeks I gave up tried again a month later with the same results. He eventually figured it out on his own when he was about 18 months old. 3rd baby didn't need sleep training, she just started sleeping through the night. Now my 4th is the worst. I am doing this check in thing for over 3 hours. We are still in the first week but it's awful.
@@Reemtosa I didn't sleep train. I tried but I couldn't go through him crying and he was out of breath and choking and I just couldn't do it. Also I am still breastfeeding so it was even harder on me. He is 1now. He is sleeping much better. He still wakes up but only for a hug and goes back down so it all improved. We sleep much better.
@@saraadam656 my first daughter was a nightmare b3cause of her sleep schedule. .. the second daughter is now 5 months old and i am trying to figure out how to help her (AND ME😂) sleep through the night. I cant get the hands on this because we have the same bedroom. I want to try it out but i have the same issue, plus, she still needs to be breastfed at night because she has a great appetite and no meal makes her really full. So, thank you for pointing out the obvious, letting the baby cry till choking isn.t a great idea and the bonding we build since birth wont let us let them do that. It.s instinct and it.s healthy. Thankyou for this amazing video! A few questions ! We live in a small apartment and his crib is in our room. How would this method work? His bed time is at 8 pm. So for the first few hours we can leave the room as the video says to. But When we are already asleep in our bed, how would this work? ALSO, do we do the same for naps?
Thank you for the information! We are looking into sleep training for our second baby. He generally sleeps pretty well at night but often wakes up and needs us to give him his pacifier in order for him to put himself back to sleep. Is that going to hinder the self soothe process? Also, how would we implement sleep training for naps? He only naps on us or in his swing (which I know is unsafe and I hate doing it!) so we really need to get him to nap in his crib! Any tips?
I started wayy late! Because my babe never had sleep issues until now. He's 10 1/2 months old and it's been a nightmare to get him to go to sleep. I need some help!
This video is really informative - I am hoping to try this method so that we can have a consistent bed time. At the moment the baby only falls asleep when being cuddled.
My daughter is 9.5 months and we had to start this method because it was no longer feasible to have irregular sleep. We are on the 8th night, and it is working. Our daughter is very persistent though...so right now it seems to be the "extinction burst" which basically is a huge tantrum before it actually settles down. But our night are much better. Will they cry? YES. Will it hurt your feelings? YES. Is it still worth it? YES. :)
Is this possible with twins that sleep in the same room? I tend to pick up one and move out of the room so I dont wake up the other. Should i only use the method if they are both crying? Of course, only if I know that they don't need their nappy changing/to be fed/ or not ill etc
I'm an active dad who stays up with our daughter every night until 3am. We're trying the Ferber method now for the first time. Wife is back to work already and our daughter is 3 months.
Our Baby sleeps 25 min naps during day time ( he will be 6 months in 9 days). He’s eating day time is not enough- so he feeds at least 2 -3 times during the night. Recommendation? I would like to start this so we don t rock him to sleep/ and also to help him connect day naps -longer.
Great video, 2 questions for you guys: If the baby stands up and is well past that 6 month window how do you adjust the method? Also, if the baby is going through a period of intense separation anxiety and more intense crying when away from parents, is this method still advisable, or should the separation anxiety be sorted first?
I never wanted to sleep train. But 4.5 month in my head has been hurting all week cuz of sleep deprivation and I think I’m ready to try it now 😔😔 she’s also in the 4 month regression so she’s waking up every hour. I’m so tired 😔😭 I love her but she does not sleeppppp Confirmation comments? I feel guilty and at the same time I don’t cuz we’re both not sleep well. She looks tired doing the day
Once the child is sleep trained with the Ferber method, will it hamper if a child's routine gets disturbed due to some unavoidable situations like travel or getting sick etc?
What do you do when baby tolls on their tummy and cannot roll back ? Do you go in and place them back? My baby does this a lot and I don’t know how it will affect the sleep training. Also - baby doesn’t eat enough during the day ( maybe 14 oz-17 oz)so he needs 2-3 night feeds or he ll wake up every 1 h . What do you recommend?

I’m seriously starting to get depressed bec I feel like I can’t do anything right.. and I’ll do anything to not hear baby cry! Thank you for this video. Will rewatch and start tia ASAP. Baby will be five months Monday
Can I ask how did it go?
Thank you so much for asking! I had to let him cio and it helped. This past week he’s started to want to wake up multiple times again
Ok, great to know! We tried this last night and gave in. Plan to try again this weekend lol
@Laritas World you let him cio? I'm so scared to do that he looks like he's in pain crying for so long it breaks my heart. what did u do to make yourself okay? like can u explain the routine u did for it or to put him down and when u came back . im so scared to do it im crying already
In Canada we get 1 year - more countries should be doing this.
Comparison is the thief of happiness. ❤️
Interesting! What is the other gentle method?
So glad where i live we get a whole year with our little baby !
I wished I started earlier because now he’s sitting up
How did it go?
Thank you. This makes me feel so much better. Been wondering when to start sleep training and this is just perfect explanation. Thanks again xx
I absolutely love y’all’s approach and how you explain everything very simply and have a comforting attitude
Me reading this as my baby is 5.5 months old lol
But it needs to be done the right way
My husband and I we’re desperate so we started this method 3 weeks ago with our 8 month old baby
The first 2 nights were very hard, but the third night she cried just a little bit.
What about naps during the day? Would you recommend doing the same process or is it ok to let them sleep in your arms/lap during the day?
Thank you for this informative video. I'm an epileptic with a four month old and the sleep deprivation has really messed with my seizure control. Our first two babies were great sleepers. This little man is ensuring he will always be the baby in the family, lol! Anyways, this video has given me more confidence starting this method. Wish me luck and thanks again!! :)
Are sound machines ok?
Good luck!!!! And we use them :)
Hi! I’m so grateful for this video 🙏🏼 so confident about start sleep train. My baby is 5th… right in time. I’m resident doctor of internal medicine and my maternity leave is ending 💔 I just did the first night. We did it! Wish me luck 🙏🏼❤️thank you!
Can you try this method for naps? Or is there a better method for day sleeping ?
Hi! My baby is 5.5 months and for the last 2 nights Ive trying ferber but I chicken out after a couple of checks in as I can't cope with the crying... However I know I need to do it as my baby is waking minimum 5 times every night And I feed him to sleep every time😴😴
It would be great to hear tips for families that are room sharing
YES!!!
I need that too 😭😭 asap . Im so exhausted
Yes we live in a small studio and baby’s crib is literally right next to our bed
We all sleep in the same bed. What do you recomend ?
must be nice to have a nanny and grandparents helping. wouldn't know anything about that
One thing they don't specifically address, only hint at,but i think it's key .... And what the touchy feely types don't get, is the newborn infant is in survival mode. Cries are their only means of communication. Between 4-6 months, babies start to recognize that "if i cry, they come." That's why this method is actually critical. And why the process works. It's the right balance of reassurance and "you're okay".
This worked great 36 years ago with my boys , it just didn’t have a name.
Love them, sing to them, comfort them, be with them.♥️
When you go back in do you turn on the light? Also do you check for dirty diaper and change it if needs be?
I don’t think so!!! Sleeping thriugh the night usually means without any waking, diaper change or feed etc
Always change a dialer if it needs changing. No sleeping through the night worths diaoer rash that could really make a baby uncomfortable an uncooperative further on anyways.
Can you provide references on these long term studies done on crying babies?
Yes, I would also like to see the references for this claim.
Thank you for the video. I'll have to start sleep training soon... I don't want to but my husband worries that I am not sleeping, and yes, he is getting all kinds of advice from his friends that I don't agree with. Maybe I'll give this method a try.
It will break my heart seeing bubba crying to sleep. It’s not my cup of tea 🍵 I rather be there for my child.
Do you recommend during the first night to implement the ferber method for every single wake up ?
What can I do for my baby who is 7.5 months? He keeps sitting up and will cry every time I lay him in the crib. Please help!
How long to you continue the process of leaving and coming back before you pick the baby up and try again later? One hour, two hours or until they just finally fall asleep?
Thank you very much. Super Helpful for First time moms like me. More videos about babies pls😊
Can we do the sleep training with mother sleeping in the same room after baby falls asleep..
I’m doing it now! Seems to work. But I have a large curtain that divides his space from ours! It was less than $150!On Amazon
I needed this! Thank you so much!!!!!
My baby started self soothing at about 6 weeks and that's when I started to train her and she falls asleep by herself without crying. But, of course, each baby is different.
Could you be more specific on this please? I have a 3 week old and want to start sleep training at 8 weeks
The pacifier once he is in deep sleep I remove, but I hate it now still trying to let him self soothe like before 7 weeks when we go back home where he has his crib he will fall back into his routine.
lucky
Thanks anyone who sees this 😂❤
Hi! Thank you for the info! Can you please name the studies you are referring to? Or a link? Thanks!
Thank you.
Starting tomorrow with naps! Wish me luck 😢
I had to research on how to put my baby to bed after suffering from back pains from rocking my 15 pounds 3 month old by to bed every now and then
My baby beat the system… she cried for 2 straight hours until the point she started literally choking. I had to pick her up. It was like that for 3 straight nights. We tried everything we can’t get her to fall asleep on her own
Was this with picking her up every 2 minutes?
Ok we understand the concept of sleep training but is there a point where the crying becomes so hysterical where you have to stop and intervene? We tried this method but after the first soothing our baby started getting even more hysterical after we left her again.
You are lovely! Thank you for this information 🥰
Finally, great and to the point video!
Our baby sleep in our bedroom, what should we do when he cry in the meddle of the night?
Can we use pacifier
So my son cries hysterically, turns red, starts coughing. That sort of crying. It’s not “a little bit of crying”. He’s 6 months and stands supported. He’s fed, clean, healthy....do I STILL just let him cry? I’m really concerned.
Never let the baby cry if he wants to soothe in your lap, hold him and put him to sleep as he wants. Eventually babies get better with sleep training. You just keep trying sleep training. With some babies it takes time.
@reachfortheskybee y
Thank you this is really helpful to prepare sleep training.
Clear and concise information. Amazing!
How do you guys not have way more subscribers?
Because not every wants or needs to sleep train and not everyone agrees with it
This is really hard when you sharing a room with your baby. Because they can still see you.
same issue here. What did you do?
@@Reemtosa I didn't sleep train. I tried but I couldn't go through him crying and he was out of breath and choking and I just couldn't do it. Also I am still breastfeeding so it was even harder on me. He is 1now. He is sleeping much better. He still wakes up but only for a hug and goes back down so it all improved. We sleep much better.
I just leave the room!
Use kids friendly sleep mask on them and under the supervision of an adult.
We all are different
This info and video was so refreshing 🙏🏽
I love your video
M gonna do it tonight... thank you.
This is amazing information, thank you both for sharing. We have a 3 month baby, and it’s a struggle to put her to sleep or put her to take a nap.
Helped big time,thanks.
What if they're teething & in pain?
Give baby some infant Panadol before he sleeps. Read instructions on packaging for how much to give him.
I don’t think it’s recommended to start sleep training when you think they are particularly bothered by teething. Best to wait a couple weeks.
@dolphynlvr4 thank you, i was thinking the same as my daughter (5 months old) is teething and not really having a good night's sleep. I.ll just wait a little longer and this method is the first i am going to try.
Great job guys! Very informative :)
Mae Aghili thanks for watching!!!
Any tips?
This is literally my life 🙄
So AAP recommends baby sleep in the same room until 1 year. Can you do this in the same room as the parents?
I started wayy late! Because my babe never had sleep issues until now. He's 10 1/2 months old and it's been a nightmare to get him to go to sleep. I need some help!
Same here :)
Thank you for such an informative video. My baby is almost 5 months and I am up about 3/4 times a night to feed the baby.
I will hopefully try this :)
3 or 4 tyms seems like a blessing to me haha.. ours is 8-10 times + :/
Ok so when baby wakes up in middle of night you reset the times so start again with 2, 5, etc, yes?
This video is really informative - I am hoping to try this method so that we can have a consistent bed time. At the moment the baby only falls asleep when being cuddled.
Really helpful, thank you
Great!! Thank you!
Can we use Ferber method at 9 months ? And baby sleeps in the crib on the same room as parents. Does this work ?
Thanks
did you try this finally ? and did it work ?
Wife is back to work already and our daughter is 3 months.
how did it go
a simple thank you!
I am wondering the same!
Same question! Any pointers for this?
Wondering the same, has anyone heard anything more on this?
Me too
Please someone answer this question!
I never wanted to sleep train. But 4.5 month in my head has been hurting all week cuz of sleep deprivation and I think I’m ready to try it now 😔😔 she’s also in the 4 month regression so she’s waking up every hour. I’m so tired 😔😭 I love her but she does not sleeppppp
Confirmation comments? I feel guilty and at the same time I don’t cuz we’re both not sleep well. She looks tired doing the day
Letting my baby cry for 10 mins a night until they self soothe will surely cure my PPD !
Please do a video for sleep training a 1 year old
Once the child is sleep trained with the Ferber method, will it hamper if a child's routine gets disturbed due to some unavoidable situations like travel or getting sick etc?
This was so helpful!! Do I do this with naps as well?
What do you do when baby tolls on their tummy and cannot roll back ? Do you go in and place them back? My baby does this a lot and I don’t know how it will affect the sleep training.
Also - baby doesn’t eat enough during the day ( maybe 14 oz-17 oz)so he needs 2-3 night feeds or he ll wake up every 1 h . What do you recommend?
