      I am 195 lbs and pretty lean. Green belt. A 150 lbs black belt pinned me in training and even though we had practiced escapes for this EVERY TRAINING for 3 years, I could not get out lol. And your ribs are crushing and it's hard to breathe

    In my gym our coach said we should even push it under the shoulder if possible, it really gives you a dominant pin. Feels like being under an elephant

      there are a couple of very solid kesa gatame variations. being under shoulder is pretty good. if you want to really apply weight and pressure though you may opt for a variation henry akins does.
      and the classic judo variation where your legs are low allow you to scissors and transition

      I knew a judoka that could have pinned Eddie Hall on meth with his kesa. Scary strong hold.

    Idk if its ideal, but the second that elbow starts slipping. I let go and use the same arm to grab at the legs while also letting go of the head. To do that reverse kesa with leg entry options. Plus i can slide back up for head and arm options.
    What's the usual follow up when the elbow escape? Cause i wasn't ever actually taught a follow up. It's just what i like.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu

      If you lose the elbow it's definitely best abandon ship. Too risky since they have an underhook

    Why use Kesa without control of the farside arm (Kitsuri Kesa) isnt this esentially just a head lock

    • @rashiro
      @rashiro Год назад

      Having both arms is always going to be better, but also much harder to do, and rarer to wind up in. If you have double underhooks, you can easily transition to s-mount and have a guaranteed arm bar.

    • @davidpignatore6532
      @davidpignatore6532 Год назад

      Having the near side arm off the ground, makes it much harder to escape than just having the head. Might land in this position off a headlock takedown and have to be able to control your opponent. There's also alot of subs and set ups from there. You can make some tap just from having good pressure in that position. Sucks the air from your opponent when done good. Have a high level wrestler put you in the position and you'll feel it

    Both were terrible tbh. Even the second one you have zero control of their close arm which is the most important. And actually even if they have inside you can still control a LOT and transition to kata gatame. Why BJJ guys don’t know this position?!!’
