I mostly do fine art now, but I still love ❤️ love my paper crafting/card making (and all sorts of crafting, actually) too. So some of the craft organizing tips work for both types of creativity supplies. I plan to go through all my crafting supplies (and there's some art supplies I need to break with too) soon and destash...especially patterned paper that and embellishments and all that I'm just never gonna use. It's sometimes hard to let go, but it's REALITY time..."let it go...let it go...you'll feel better..."😆

This week I put up a 32” x 24” picture frame with 3 Pro Max magnet sheet rolls from Michael s using 40% coupons. I’m putting all my frequently used shape nesting Dies-square, circles, banners, rectangles, etc. Next to each set I’ve placed a number and keeping the original pkg with corresponding number in a box in closet in case I decide to sell at a later time. Have so many I’ve run out of room n put 12” x 24” pegboard onto cabinet and 2 other 16” square pegboards onto side of another cabinet. I’m keeping those dies in their original pkg.

I put up a 34” wide by 30” high pegboard above a bookcase full of 8.5” x 11” colored cardstock stored in magazine boxes from Dollar Tree. I was using paper towel holder for double sided tape but now use for paper towels and moved double sided tape onto pegboard cuz I have 6”, 2.5”, 2”, 1”, 0.5”, 0.25” and 1/8” tape rolls. All but 6” tape I use so frequently I store 2-3 rolls of 2.5” and 2” (for TH Colorize dies. I stock 4 -5 rolls each of 1/4” and 1/8” rolls used on majority of my cards. I make/send 38 cards a month. It seems I change storage every 1-2 yrs. I shop thrift store, yard sales, Craig’s List. I have no problem paint the furniture white for my room.

LMAO about the shammy issue. I can't tell you how many cards have been victim to my wet shammy! Is it wrong that I stopped this video and shopped about 3/4 of the way through?
I did think the digital section was going to be about digital organization and not RUclips. Creating an inventory of my products has saved my sanity, time, and money. Knowing exactly what I have, what it looks like, and where it is stored is so freakin' awesome. I used to unintentionally buy duplicate items. I guess it meant I really liked it BUT I don't want duplicates unless I can truly benefit from having two (sometimes with dies you can). My inventory works on my desktop and my phone so I can use it when I'm out and about shopping and I can use it when I'm looking for a specific stamp, die, stencil, or folder for my next project or even just browse for inspiration. I highly recommend taking the time to document your stash. Although I won't guarantee that you may change your mind about where or how you store your stash, you'll definitely benefit from knowing what you have and where exactly it is.

I need you to teach me your ways! I don't digitally organize my supplies (although now I see why you thought that section was about that...doh...my fault). You're so right, it would save me so much time! Thank you for sharing this

What do you use to digitally organize? I started using Evernote but found it cumbersome to find what I wanted. I now use Google Keep for my "to do" lists and made one listing all my distress colored products with an index- Ink, Oxide, Archive Ink, Reinker, Spray, OS Oxide Spray, Pencil, Crayon, Embossing Glaze so at a glance I can pick a color and see if I have the product or now. Doesn't work for stamps or dies though!

@@corilevinson377 Hello, I use Airtable, It's free up to a certain amount of items or file size BUT that amount only applies to one base. I didn't realize at the beginning that I'd decide to inventory so much of my stash but it so convenient to have that info at hand. I had to copy a couple of my bases when they got too full and then split them up. Now that I'm aware of the limits, it's easier for me to plan ahead. There are lots of options for the fields so it works well for me. I put things in my inventory now as soon as I purchase them so I can use the images from the website instead of taking my own photos (saves tons on file size). I find the SNIP tool works for me as it greatly reduces the file size. Hope this helps.

@@marypolancodesignsI’m actually glad you shared that information about RUclips, Mary, because it was very frustrating for me when I was totally lost and didn’t know where to find the information the YTers were directing me to!! I’m certain there are always people who are new to using these platforms and they will be very grateful to you for sharing that!! I love your upbeat energy and your ideas and tips are helpful! I really like the app ColorMyLife which allows you to inventory and create projects/ideas and match colors from your supplies etc etc. It’s created by paper crafters, but is versatile for all types of craft supplies. It’s a VERY reasonable annual fee-$15 or $20.

If you're just setting up your craft area, the $99 tool bench from harbor freight is awesome. ( I'm a stand up stamper). It has a. Overhead shelf, corkboard, light, and stirage shelf underneath, as well as 2 shallow drawers that hold paper trimmers and scoring boards. Makes an awesome stamping station. Again, more for stampers who prefer to stand. Great tips Mary, thank you.

Dies on display are a game changer. I usually keep mine on long mirrors (think dorm door long mirrors) covered in magnetic vent covers. I can flip through them like giant folders. I had a space in my room that easily held an OSB (2' x 7' tall sturdy board) that I covered with a magnetic sheet. It holds all of my large dies in 14 square feet of space.

My space is constantly evolving. I think taking classes is the best way to use my supplies as classes always inspire. I'm taking drawing and mixed media classes and watercolor from some RUclipsrs and am learning a lot. Also the monthly card club kits like spellbinders has have been good for getting creative juices going. I'd say for people just getting started those clubs are a great way to slowly build your stash and learn and have fun. The yt people always show ways they use the club kits and all those classes are free. Anyhow, I think the best way to use what you have is by taking classes even if you're experienced because it's just hard to be creative all the time on your own. As my stash has grown so has my organization been refined.

Currently I have my inkpads + other stuff in the totally tiffany 12x12 4 drawer storage and carry cases (my washi in the 12x12 6 drawer one)
my dies and larger stamps in binders but I'm thinking maybe put them in those magazine holders so I don't have to flick through so much 🤔or just in a container (I have them in 2 pocket pages so could just fold in half and put in a container as the pages are side loading...) ... also in need of paper storage as I have them in various places ... also I've finally mostly convinced myself to stop saving plastic packaging and stuff until I've used what I've saved! (have loads in a few places around the room haha) ... though all in all most of my stash is on the floor haha

I have tried a variety of these over the years finding some extremely workable and others not so much. In doing so, the most important thing I’ve learned is that not even the greatest idea in theory and appeal will work for everyone. Personal storage/usage style, size of space, and size of collection each play a part in finding an individual’s best solution. Sometimes the less expensive ‘hack’ is works out great and for the long haul but sometimes it’s better to save one’s pennies to invest in something more customized.

Thank you so much for this information!! You shared so many great ideas! I purchased a clear, acrylic 4 drawer container at Home Goods, in the clearance section. It's meant for jewelry, I think, because it's lined with black felt. It holds all of my markers horizontally and looks pretty on my craft table. It is 12 inches wide and 9 inch high. :) As for the little embellishments, I use a tall plastic case made for tools. It has 24 small drawers that pull out and in between them, there are 4 medium size drawers. So, 12 on each side. I have them all labeled, of course, but you can see inside them. I bought 2, years ago, and they are stacked very nicely. (One of the medium sized drawers has cut out letters in it. I need to reorganize!)

The large snap-side container you mistakenly said was $1.25, but is really $5, is wonderful. Walmart sells them in several other sizes, and I use all of them to store my vast array of craft supplies, and also sewing notions. They're great because they're see-through, close securely, the lid comes off completely so it's not in the way, and they come in very convenient sizes that will hold many types of items. My husband even built me a sewing table with custom shelves sized specifically for the bins half the size that you are showing, I love them so much! 😄

I’ve been card making 25 yrs so have changed storage many times as my supplies grew. Most of my furniture in craft room is repurposed. I have a rotating CD storage 48” tall 8” wide, 6 shelves that are adjustable. Bought trim from lumber store and applied to each shelf to give each shelf a lip so items don’t fall off during a moderate earthquake. I store spools of ribbon on one side and on other side dies. But my dies outgrew so another person gave me a CD storage cabinet 22” wide x 36” tall with 4 stationary shelves inside + 4 shelves on each door.

TFS! I totally must have that 5 tiered shelf system you showed with your embellishments. I am visual too and prefer to see what I have to use it. But it can become difficult to store everything in sight, and not look like a hot mess! 😛
You have a lot of cool ideas.. one thing that may help others.. because of a spine injury, I have mobility issues. And I cannot sit in one place to color or do my lettering.. so I use a cart (lRaskog type). Which I store my markers, pencils, watercolors, etc.. along with coloring books, watercolor paper & stamped & die-cuts that I need to color.. plus a few tools (scissors, tape, sharpener, eraser etc) . I organize each shelf with acrylic drawer organizers to keep things separated & handy. My Ohuhu collections are color coordinated on the top shelf. My cart is from Michael’s and has handles that extend above the top tray on both sides. So i am able to easily move it to wherever I wish to work.
Sorry that took me so long to describe. 😂 but I wanted to give enough info so ppl can visualize the benefits..
Thanks again. Looking so fwd to the summit! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Oh my gosh this was great! I certainly got some good tips, especially the ‘purging’ one. I am in the middle of rearranging my craft room and looking at supplies I’ve had for years and not using but not having the heart to get rid it but I really need to. I am off to dollar tree tomorrow to look for all sorts of containers and such! I’m going to check out some more of your channel because I’m very curious as to what you do!

I started keeping my stand alone stencils in page protectors in a 3 ring binder. My stamps and dies are organized by how large the set is, like does it fit in a small , medium, or large plastic holder and by vendor. Then I number them 1 23 etc. so a spellbinders stamp and die set that needs a large plastic holder would be labeled LSB01. That corresponds to a copy of the packaging in sheet protectors so I can visually see what that stamp set contains. I also keep a spreadsheet with this information on it. It’s a great system if you start out organizing slowly. It is helpful because a lot of times I can remember the vendor name and the size of the package so I go straight to my tool box, slide open the drawer and find what I need. I am almost done reorganizing all of this and I have determined that I don’t need to buy any new stamps or dies lol

As a gardener I recycle yogurt, cottage cheese and such for pots and storage containers for small things on my potting bench etc. I need to go through my card stuff and PERGE. That will wait till fall though - planting time right now :) Even though this is a busy time of year on the mountain - will try to SEE this upcoming Get Organized Summit. Where did you get the little clip on spoons in your embossing powder containers? When you showed the hooks on your rail system above your desk I was thinking that if you use two spaced apart they would provide a goo place to store a smaller paper trimmer or stamp platform. I especially liked your use of shower curtain rings to store washi tape. Great video!
