Hi.!Dr Thank you for the information on cushions. Could you talk about what diet we should follow if our horses may have symptoms of the disease. Thank you.

What are other options instead of using the pink pill

What if your horse has no symptoms? My horse cannot shake his summer sores. Ive tried 5 vets and two of them has seen him twice. Still has summer sores.

Can you give suggestions on how to administer prescind? My Mare refuses to eat treats or grain with prescind. She can smell it through a treat.

Hello, thank you for the information on Cushings. At the rescue ranch where I am a volunteer we have a senior horse that has Cushings and is on medication for it. My question is since the horse has very long hair (we are in Arizona) is it okay to buzz the hair off? We soon will be in triple digits temps and we would like to help keep the horse cool.

How much does the medication for cushings cost. I just took an old mare that I bought after being lied to, to the vet for a pot belly that looked unnatural to me. She told me the horse may have cushings, she didn't do a test to find out. I don't know what the best thing to do for her.

My horse has Cushings and has chronic sinusitis from a tooth abscess. Tooth has been pulled but infection remains. Antibiotics and lavage not working after several weeks. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for this valuable information Dr Matt. My POA is 29 and just diagnosed with Cushings. Next step is to discuss his treatment with the vet. His clinical signs are minimal at this time. Should a pony his age even be treated? Will the treatment potentially improve his quality of life?

I would definitely recommend the treatment at least for a couple months to see what it does. For most horses, it will extend their lifespan and improve quality of life.

This is GREAT Matt! I didn't know it was a brain tumor.

Yep it’s a very small benign adenoma of the pituitary!

My horse is 30 years old and suffers from severe rain rot here in south Florida. What is my next step after she doesn’t respond to topical treatment ? Also would and Immune Boost injection help?

So sad that people lie about their horses. Just bought a great pony for my daughter (so I thought) guess what Cushing disease. My vet suggested Prascend. I believe it will work from research on the internet.

You mentioned cushioned horses losing weight or hard to keep weight on. I have a horse that has classic signs of Cushings but has no problem keeping weight on. I’ve also had ponies over the years that had cushings and they were always heavier. Is this common?

    • @inthevettruck3029

Not every horse presents with all of the clinical sign. I would recommend getting your horse tested if he has any of the clinical signs mentioned

My horse has Cushings and is now having a hard time keeping weight on. Is there anything that can help with the weight ?

    • @inthevettruck3029

Get the Cushings under control with Prascend and if you’re still having difficulty get the teeth floated. I like hay pellets and low carb senior feed for putting weight back on older horses

@@inthevettruck3029 he had his teeth done and is eating t/a pellets and senior feed plus BOSS and CocoSun. He was overweight when this all started. He was healthy all his life so I never thought he would get this. he's 22 now.
