The cheerleading game pitch meeting was 10% information and 100% three guys singing, yelling and cheering until the game was authorized
"Fine, fine, here's your check. Just, please, stop."
That pitch meeting was super easy barely an inconvenience
@@usmannasir8647 pitch meeting references are TIGHT!
Giving 110% is very much in keeping with the game's spirit
@@wraithcadmus I wondered when someone was going to pick up on that. LOL
I strongly suspect the team behind Octodad came up with the phrase "Dadliest catch" and worked outwards from there.
No as Dadliest Catch isn't the first one in the series the first one in the series is just called Octodad.
Na it is the second iteration the first was freeware and just called octodad.
So it was more like they released the freeware as Octodad because they couldn't think of a good name, and then Dadliest Catch hit them right after it uploaded.
@@staticblast1 I love the idea that someone in the room just yelled "Dadliest catch!" the second after the first game was released and everyone was like "damn, now we've got to make another one..." :'D
@@staticblast1 No, it was more likely a spin/pun on the Octomom situation that was in the news at the time. That chick that made the news for having octuplets?
So you're a circle.
In a haunted maze.
You eat dots.
After eating a big dot, you can, for a very limited time, eat the ghosts that haunt the maze.
But the ghosts always come back.
Pac-Man is the first and most bizarre survival-horror game.
there's a few first-person Pac-Man games out there and they're terrifying
Goat simulator? Somehow a joke prototype became a pretty popular game because apparently people really enjoy using a ragdolling goat to do tricks. The world is a strange and wonderful place.
Seems to me that they should just make a video of "joke prototypes that became actual real games"
I remember when it was announced they were going to take the game jam version to a commercial game, they had an FAQ containing the gem "Q: bro are u srs? A: Yes"
And then we got the Goat Simulator Heist in Payday 2. So damn wierd. HOW DID THE GOAT GET OVER THERE
Beth Bloomer this world makes me want to slit my wrists
I just realized that shitty physics game always go viral. Happy Wheels, QWOP and Getting Over it
We all need a group of cheerleaders screaming at our problem to help make them go away.
True, I can't think of a more graceful thing
@@Sableagle when she does that people tend to have their eardrums burst.
And now I want Gyoubu from Sekiro as a personal cheerleader, so he can come charging in on Onikage whenever I have a problem and start yelling everyone's eardrums off.
@@Sableagle You want Sindel for that.
They should make something like that, but with boybands from the last century, from nkotb to um one direction.
Please don't crucify me
What's weird about Octodad? It looks like a perfectly normal suburban dad simulator. Granted, it's not a riveting concept, but it looks quite normal to me.
Yeah, your just playing as your typical middle class white dad doing dad things to appease the family. Soooo exciting
Thomas Allen why you got to be a racist
matt fahringer that’s not racist?
I don't know.. Something is fishy about it...
Blub
You guys should do a video on child friendly versions of adult games, like how simpsons hit and run was basically gta and monster house was basically resident evil
Super Noah's ark 3d being an unlicensed reskin of Wolf3D and the incredible Chex's Quest being a DOOM reskin that was literally distributed in cereal boxes!
There's also splatoon being a kid friendly online shooter game
Good idea!
The nightmare before Christmas game was a devil may cry reskin made by capcom.
@@ArtifiSir And only one of them is getting a remake.
Could you do 7 games that started out pretty normal and then got more and more bizarre? Ace Attorney comes to mind.
And pretty much every jrpg ever lol
Thanks, now Im reminded of how strange and minorly absurd things in Epic Battle Fantasy Series gets.
First game had you kill fucking Goku. Your gun loving member is a fascist (and perv). Cats have no limbs. There is always an achievement for clicking the mage's bewbs (always). Some tentacle monsters. Questionable discussions. Things getting waaay to meta. Sentien Glitches (NOOOOOOOOO). And more of course.
Every want to fight the monolith from A Space Odyssy? DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. I swear if I had to fight them in another game series, just no.
DDLC is another....
And then there's Saints Row
Yakuza.
Not sure what's in the air in Japan but they should bottle and sell that stuff
Japan is full of amazing and weird ass shit. I love it.
60 to 100 hour work weeks, including near-mandatory after-hour drinking parties with your boss and coworkers. Also marketing/competition is aggressive over there so they are constantly seeking to top everyone else in novelty. This is why we end up with strange commercials, crazy game shows, weird video games and the concept blender that anime has become.
isn't the air over there horribly polluted
@@virgilmcmath6363 No it's not. If you were thinking of anywhere like that, that would be China
@@Kimichitsuzuku Japanese TV doesn't have crazy gameshows, it has people watching other people eat food and say how delicious it is
Marketing in what regard? Everyone is very happy with very plain stuff in Japan, hence a cuisine of subtle flavours such as plain white rice, or salty fish.
I do know a lot of people that work a lot, for instance one friend has 3 part-time jobs, but I don't know anyone that works anywhere near 100 hours; especially not per their contract;, Japanese people simply do not take time off, so the government has had to create more holidays to make up for that public mindset.
The drinking does happen, but generally speaking I can't think of anyone that dislikes that aspect, and again most people I know would drink alone at home after work any way.
(live in Japan for about 5 years)
Viva Piñata.
You "tame" "wild Piñatas" with such whimsical names like "sparrowmint", "limeoceros", "mallowolf", and "swanana". You can have them change colors and wear funny little hats and make them do tricks for your leisure, all the while getting their candy meters up so that you can ship them off to faraway lands ripe with rabid children all too eager to womp on the poor Piñatas and devour their sweet candy innards.
It's good times, really.
For some reason Viva Piñata was my childhood game
The show reveals that most like it and they can be easily patched up after.
don't forget the mating
That game was love on xbox
That game was love on xbox
Please tell me there's a tank in the aquarium level of Octodad that has a man swimming in it, whom everyone think is an octopus...
SHOULD'VE BEEN!
I wish man
You fish man.
So you’re saying the cure for my IBS is to summon a trio of shrieking Japanese Neo-cosplayers to come and do a motivational dance at me whenever it flares up?
...
Interesting.
It's worth a try I guess. Can't hurt to try. Only with difficulty falling asleep it wouldn't be as effective I guess.
Nah, just a standard Japanese high school/university male cheerleader team. All schools and universities here have them. And living close to campus, I assure you, we can hear them...😅 They do shout, though far less rythmically than in the game.😜
I still recommend that you try it at the toilet. So if it doesn't work at least you do not poo in your pants and also some of the public toilets have very nice echo effect so a cheerleading would sound nice. :)
Just imagining them helping someone with E D
@RainWelsh Licorice capsules might help you, for real. Maybe give it a shot.
Everytime Andy says "Piece of Sentient walking bread playing The Floor is Lava" I can't help but giggle.
Um... How many times has Andy gotten to say that line?!
@@KickyFut Equal to the number of times I rewound this video.
That's fair.😅
When I first learned of Hatoful Boyfriend I cried out, "Nicola Tesla! You're not alone!"
You, Ma'am, deserve a slow clap. :D
Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Pigeon Fancier".
Nicola Tesla regarding one white pigeon “I loved that pigeon as a man loves a woman, and she loved me. As long as I had her, there was a purpose to my life.”
The Fuck?... ok, that’s a thing I know now... 🤯
"And he died alone. In love with a pigeon." "Tesla was the electric Jesus."
I think any game coming out of Japan can be considered "weird", it's just on a scale from 1-10
Hmmm...Lemme think...
YES
cough Kingdom Hearts cough
I legit tried to explain the 100 Acre Woods section of KH3 to my family, and I couldn't stop making faces at how dumb it all sounded
@@Maria.Annette dude,I haven't played kh3,but when I tried to explain the plot of a Japanese only game (saying I couldn't understand the characters,so I guessed through the events)and my parents just said "wut?" And it made everything even harder to explain it
You say that as if they're the only ones making weird games. How about South Park?
Ok hear me out: Final Fantasy, with DISNEY CHARACTERS!
Nah, you're crazy,dawg!
Or! Oooor! - Slightly more violent Zelda, with DISNEY CHARACTERS!
What about Dynasty Warriors... with Final Fantasy characters?! Okay, so maybe that's not that weird, but I want that to be a thing, damn it!
So kingdom hearts.
@@adriAh1776 nope, since they already have final fantasy characters in them
Muscle March for the Wii? You play as a body-builder (or a polar bear), chasing after a thief that's stolen your protein powder, by using motion controls to make your character fit through variously shaped holes in walls that come towards you increasingly quickly...
"The Zoo Race", a PC game featuring biblical Noah organizing races for God (which is the announcer of said races) between humans which were turned into animals and some of the races contain pirate ships, dinosaurs and the moon.
I did not made this one up. Look it up.
What on Earth.....?!
watch Jontron's video on it. Its hilarious 🤣
The Mysterious Madness of Dr Dekker is, put simply, an entirely live action FMV Psychiatrist Simulation/Murder Mystery hybrid.
And its genuinely one of the most intense games i’ve ever played with better acting than most movies.
surprised you didn't mention Gang Beasts. A beat em up where nobody dies, nobody understands the controls and each character is made into a cute Plasticine shape
"nobody understand the control" lol
Well, a little trivia, someone who would have enjoyed Hatoful Boyfriend would be Nicolas Tesla. Who never got married but described his love for a pigeon in letters to his friend.
closely followed by Bill Lawry. Wendy? Wendy?
I thought of him too
Did someone actually acknowledge the OSU series!? Hell yeah!
As someone who played Elite Beat Agents all the time when I was younger, and still miss it dearly, I was really chuffed to learn about the series that gave birth to this gem! Will definitely look into it, for curiosity's sake if nothing else.:)
Speaking of curiosity... You wouldn't happen to know whether or not the Osu! Tatakae Ouendan game and sequels and Osu!; the online collaborative rythm game are related, would you? I know there're Taiko and Ouendan modes in Osu-the-online-one, so I can't help but wonder...
@Mr. Avocado That's kind of a shame but good to know! Thanks!
Maradrafts they aren’t by the same creators, but peppy has openly acknowledged that osu! Was made as an ouendan/elite beat agents simulator. so in that sense, yes, they are related
@@coolman2805 aaah, that'd explain the modes then! Thanks as well :)
I am Bread is just
*The Floor is Lava: Octodad edition™*
Donut County is just Katamari Damacy: Infinite Density Edition
It's not out yet but Boyfriend Dungeon is looking awesome. It's a dungeon crawler where you date your weapons. I can't wait.
Elite Beat Agents doesn't get enough love. Could've done with some footage here, but the mention is appreciated.
Octodad? But that's just a normal dad doing dad deeds, nothing bizarre about that
I.M.Krisley
Yeah, it’s just a typical dad simulator.
Yeah, he's clumsy but that's ok.
Holy Steed, that Japan World Cup one got me good! XD
I don't know if I've ever laughed at something so hard XDXDXDXD
@@LuckyLucyHi I just used papernet ... or magazine as they were called.
"they should have sent a poet" 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
You forgot Pokemon Gold and Silver, it had the amazing but bizarre concept of battling me and my Rattata
Man. It is the best pokemon. Too bad they banned him.
Uhm Mr Mosquito ? (if someone remembers that PS2-Game)
Oh yeah, that's a good one!
I second this game. Also Gitaroo Man . Boy is loser. Boy meets dog. Dog teaches boy to play guitar. Boy becomes Guitar super hero and fights aliens. Tale as old as time.
Sure, I 'member.
Ooh, also that cat simulator game where you get to knock stuff off of shelves and stuff! Catlateral Damage!
Laura Marie Yes! I thought of that as well! (Goodness, the challenge mode is nuts...)
That game is adorable
Is this the list that OX makes when all of their travel and DnD-ing finally breaks them?
The first two entries made me think of Patapon as it's about drumming your enemies to death kinda
for octodad, u forgot to mention that there is a butcher chasing after u, and knows that ur an octopus
Return of the Obra Dinn is a game about properly cataloguing the deaths of a ship's crew in order to properly fill out the insurance paperwork, via the powers of a magic watch that lets you see someone's last few seconds on earth. It's surprisingly engaging and puzzling out who is who via the clues given to you is a rewarding experience, as you unravel the mysteries of what happened on the ship.
They literaly fought off a meteor with the Fullmetal Alchemist theme. I'm sold.
What about manual Samuel not on here is having to control someone going to the bathroom normal in 2019?
Wait I just relized how emersive this is lmao
Chris Mccabe yeah
I control someone going to the bathroom multiple times a day. And I've been doing that almost my entire life. Nothing weird about that.
Wait, that's not a perfectly normal human thing to do? No wonder Are 52 keeps re-capturing me. Interesting.
menno graafmans I pee in a box
@@mennograafmans1595 Which means there's nothing weird about Octodad :)
Stop playing sims for a moment ;)
Changed. A Chinese game about certain furry-related fetishes where you try to escape from a lab with an SCP-1471 lookalike while trying to avoid getting turned into a variety of anthropomorphic latexes. And somehow it has a growing devoted fanbase that has helped translate the game into English and other languages with lots of non-fetish artwork.
I love it.
Fluidity/Hydroventure is still my favorite game. A motion controlled platformer where you guide a puddle of water around the pages of a book, changing from water to ice to gas to drive away an inky influence covering the book, it was an absolute gem that sadly is no longer available with the end of the Wii Shop Channel. Hopefully we will see a port to Switch in the future.
Aww, man, this sounds great. Wish it were still available to try out!
The Pokemon Ranger series has always baffled me into loving it.
You draw circles around Pokemon to make friends with them. That's it. That's the game. It's so good, and I honestly couldn't tell you what makes it good.
Been watching these videos for a good few years now, and I’ve gotta say, Andy’s delivery gets better every week. This one was utterly brilliant!
You could have just named this title: Japan
7 Times Japan was more Japanese than usual.
69th like
Don't play the Katamari Damacy sound track in your car.
Your insurance will rise. Because you'll be smashing through anything smaller than your car.
The Catamari game was developed from the much less-popular Dung Beetle Simulator.
WHAT ABOUT GOAT SIMULATOR!!!!! seriously though, that game is nuts, there's even a Goat MMO in it.
Also Manual Sam.
I looove Osu Tatakae Ouenden! I got Elite Beat Agents and then learned of the two Japanese games. I was even telling my friend this week how I enjoyed these games. Best use of the DS! 💘
Pikmen, Wario Ware, ChibiRobo, even kirby is silly when you think about it too hard.
What about Harvest Moon? It's a game where you basically do yardwork and get married and yet I can't stop!
I would add to this list Typing of the Dead. It's a rail shooter like Time Crisis but works as a typing teaching game, since you type words or phrases to shoot. Why nobody realized before that zombies could be such an effective incentive to make you type faster? I can only imagine the bizarre pitch meeting!
You didn't have "Mario Teaches Typing" at school? There was a bunch of 'lets make typing fun' games that came out in the 90's. Typing of the Dead was probably one of the last and best.
@@Kimichitsuzuku sadly english is not my first language and in my country few videogames were translated and even fewer were used for education since they were still considered "evil atrocities that corrupt children". I played typing of The Dead in high school and loved the bizarreness of it
Nothing is more intense than a Macho Man promo because nothing can make veins pop out like that. Oh Yeah!
You know Mr Torgue is basically Macho Man Randy Savage taken to an extreme (and absurd) level 1000 on the Macho Man Randy Savage Scale. Mind you Randy Savage in never anything less then 500 on the scale
The very thought of something weirder and more intense than a Macho Man Randy Savage Promo is enough to break my mind. And Luke, probably.
Oh dear lord, I misread promo as porno. Sometimes my poor vision leads to "interesting" mistakes. lol
Reigns.
What if you rules a kingdom, but it's Tinder
This is why i love Japanese games, they come up with some of the most bizarre yet fun premises for games.
Where's Surgeon simulator, When you have to do surgery on bobo.
How about JJ Macfield. You know the game about a girl with regeneration powers who solves puzzles by chucking limbs and setting yourself in fire. You know what just put up all of sweary’s games.
What...
@@dj-d2030 The full name of the game is: The MISSING: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories
It's on Steam and the current consoles. You solve puzzles by injuring yourself. Starting with things like removing your arm and using it to weigh down a button.
Sweary is Swery65. Or you could search for him under his name: Hidetaka Suehiro
Not as weird as some of the other entries on this list, but I absolutely loved battle chef brigade. A brawler/puzzle game about a organization of highly regarded fighting chefs combatting nationwide food related strife through the medium of cooking show style contests where your only ingredients are the monsters you hunt.
2:30-
“So you want to make a game about what”?
“A squad of cheerleading guys that scream and dance at people problems until they go away”
“Will that even sell”?
“I don’t know”!
“Fair enough”.
“Near the end they will cheer at an asteroid”!
“What”?
“Yeah yeah yeah”!
"Everyone loves bread"
I know someone who is afraid of bread.
Crumbs!
The last game is just JoJo's Bizzare Adventures part 7: Steel Ball Run, but with less Jesus and Dinosaur people.
Don't insult the hair on the horse at 10:56 or you'll get dora'd.
I almost cried hearing the FMA theme song at the end of the 1st game,
"Oow plz truuust meeeeee"
Insaniquarium Deluxe was a pretty bizarre concept. Your fish tank is being invaded by aliens, so you have to protect your fish... by shooting the aliens with lasers... all while feeding your fish, collecting the coins they drop, and saving up to buy another pet.
That osu game is actually the inspiration for OSU!
Sure it's not as weird, but you can have custom maps in OSU!
1:56
Isn't this ready steady Go from fullmetal alchemist?
IT IS, I can't believe, I NEED to play this game
'Tiny and big: Grandpa's leftovers' is a 3D platformer where you use a lazer to cut the environment to pieces(sometimes these pieces can be huge) and then you pull those pieces with a grappling hook to help you progress. Also your goal in the game is to recover your Grandpa's stolen underpants. Nuff said.
I have such a warm spot in my heart for katamari. I had way too much fun with that game growing up.
Ahh the warm glowing warming glow of a new Oxbox vid!
Warms the cockles of my icy heart.
Pokemon: Let's create an RPG where your main character doesn't fight himself, but still uses a party that can be any 6 of 150 characters, all of which can level up and learn different moves for fighting in 1 on 1 battles with other parties of up to 6.
Worded that way, sounds pretty weird for an RPG, doesn't it?
Not really, but when you say they're animals, and anything from an electric mouse to a literal rock, _then_ it gets weird.
Lord Nightraven yea. You explain it better than I did
im still waiting for when they add in 6v6 battles.
That cheerleading game actually looks amazing
Time stamp: 2:53 "makes less sense than a broken penny machine at the national mint."
😂😂 I'm gonna use that in the near future!
Trust me, there is nothing more random and intense than a Randy Savage promo.
Besides an episode of Bobobo-Bobo-Bobo.
Was that Randy guy inspired by Mr. Torgue from Borderlands?? Or was that other way around?:)
@@kallasantysanty6092 Randy Savage is a former professional wrestler who rose to prominence in the 80's and 90's in both the World Wrestling Federation and the World Championship Wrestling. Known as the "Macho Man" he was known for his rather random promotions amd wrestling prowess.
He passed away in 2011.
Surgeon Simulator. Here, you find out why you should never let an unqualified person with poor motor skills perform an operation.
Human: Fall Flat is based upon a similar idea of poor motor control.
Akiba's trip, that game is so weird because basically you just play as a nerd that gets turned into a vampire who is then saved by another vampire and then you have to kill other vampires afterwards by fighting them with everyday objects and then tearing their clothes off so that they can be exposed to the Sun. I always thought it was a weird concept but that game is so much fun and so hilarious.
What about Mischief Makers? You play as a robot maid who was built by and is in service to a perverted old genius who is in need of rescue after you punch him for being a perv, causing him to Team Rocket style blasting off, and winds up abducted by some baddies. You then play a side scroller adventure with puzzles worked into the gameplay. Oh...and you get rewarded for shaking babies :v As weird as it sounds...one of my favourite games growing up, alongside Zelda games.
Never heard of Quenden before but now I wish I could play it if only to hear one of my favorite Japanese bands: Orange Range
I'm pretty sure that the last song before they mentioned Elite Beat Agents was Ready Steady Go by L'Arc~n~Ciel.
What do you mean Octodad is just a game concept?
I was sure in was based on actual events.
Lies, Lies everythere.
Ehh, I wouldn't trust their opinion on Octodad. I mean, they tried to say the main character was an octopus! That's just ridiculous, it's obviously a guy just trying his best.
Names and places were changed to protect the innocent.
@@FrostWyrmm1 he's an octopus in a suit
I mean, that's what the girl in the game says, and why would she lie to us?
I remember Ryan Davis speculating that Octodad was really about the feeling of trying to go through your day while extremely high and trying not to show it which is the best explanation for it that I could possibly think of
Elite Beat Agents was my favorite DS game of all time. I had so many handcramps from holding the stylus for hours.
I could watch that horse leap across the line.....all day....somebody please notify work that if they need me, I’ll be watch a pirouetting horse take the prize.
I see Ouendan, I smash that like button.
wow i love ouendan and advance wars too wtf bro
OUEN! DAI SEI KOU!!
"every so often a game comes along that the only explanation for it is Drugs" thats how Adam Sessler started his review of Katamari Damacy and i've yet to find a better answer
I mean, Dali got mentioned in this video and he didn't do drugs. He ate cheese in massive quantities and would stay up until he would hallucinate.
1:56 I'd recognize "Ready, Steady, GO!" anywhere!
@1:55 Fullmetal Alchemist theme
I heard it and immediately came to the comments to look for my kin
@@TrazAce9 the writing is forever genius. I love its interpretation of the tropes "science vs religion" and the "7 sins".
Ready steady, can't hold me back
Ready steady, give me good luck
Ready steady, never look back
LET'S GET STARTED, READY STEADY GO!!!!!!!
That goddamn race had to be here, it just had to
I never fully appreciated the term ‘a mood’ but that horse pirouetting over the finish line is definitely a mood and I am here for it.
2015's Japan's Sumo Cup, a special game made to bring interest to the Japan Cup, the biggest horse race of the year which featured Sumo wrestlers and Street Fighter characters in a racing rhythm game in which staying on rhythm gave you and your horse power ups in the race such as shooting lightening at the other racers, growing larger and turning into a super speed ball of fury. Sadly this browser based game was taken down a year after release but it looks so damn rad.

Vid : Everyone loves bread
Lactose intolerant people : *Am i a joke to you?*
Could’ve sworn lactose intolerance was mainly for dairy products
I never finished Ouendan. I really should.
What about Kingdom Hearts? That seems like s bizarre concept that was extremely successful.
The first one came up and I just went “Elite Beat Agents!!!!”. One of my favorite games to this day.
So... about the first game, Oendan. Is that the origin of Osu gameplay?
I was thinking of the same thing! I guess this was where peppy got his inspiration from?
Yes, Osu is directly inspired by Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!. Even the Osu! creator is aware of Osu.
5 months on, we get another great bizarre game concept: Untitled Goose Game!
Idk. I love that game but "goose is an asshole because that's just what geese do" isn't all that strange of a concept compared to most of these.
EBA Toned down the weirdness? Since when?
Musics are More Well Known Classic 😂
I loved to watch you guys during the lunch break at my high school, but it's been a few weeks since summer break and I'm now very far away from my home and school at my mother's house, and I'm very homesick. Watching this channel seems to help quite a lot, and I thank you all for making these wonderful videos 💖💖💖
Typing of the Dead is another great example, it seems odd to replace the light gun with keyboards but it works remarkably well and is an excellent way to experience House of the Dead 2.
Noby Noby Boy! It's like a questionable cheese dream...
You mean a dream of the rarebit fiend?
When the list is literally just Lucahjin's and/or ProtonJon's Steam library...
That narration was probably one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever heard! Great work!
1:56 good to know the theme song to FullMetal Alchemist is the song we'll be cheering on to save our planet from impending doom XD
OctoDad was awesome to play 🍥💯
first game was INTENSE!!! damn
You have no idea.
Ouenden: Harnessing the power of Hype for good instead of evil.
