I worked for O2 Network support here in the UK and fraudsters attempted to phish for information to then gain access in to the customers account. They would then get enough information to gain access and do a sim swap (Of course advisors on the frontline never followed the right protocol),
The fraudsters then were able to request auth codes from banks to the number and try and rinse peoples accounts. It hit headlines (not just for o2 but other UK networks too).

As a previous hacker, he gave solid advice. Always keep authentication on accounts that have sensitive things on them. Also make a new gmail account that you only use for banking/investing (also authenticated) and do NOT use those emails to register for any forums or social media so that they never get found out.

Hey lucid, Verizon representative here! This is something I have seen in store happen. People come in with fake IDs and they want to do a account takeover by doing a SIM card swap, for me at least when I noticed the fake ID I immediately shut down the transaction so It can't go through. But yeah, sadly this is something I've seen happen a lot lately with fraud.
Normally this happens digitally, and not in person. These guys get actual area managers to simswap, or get area manager codes somehow.

yeah instead of sending scam emils with obv fav email adresses, now hackers can send it from offical email adresses. i dont click anything in my email not even from offical email adresses, you got scammed, called a scammers phone and gave way too much info to a scammer,u only need half that info to prove ur the owner of an account... gg

100% it’s a inside job, I work at a wireless carrier and we had so many stores get shut down, and the staff go to jail because of sim swapping. It’s mainly the stores but I do feel like customer service does it too. Plus they don’t even train the customer service representatives half the time

Her behavior was normal, and the odds of her being the culprit are ridiculously slim. What she did is normal procedure for when something in the information that you used to verify didn't match with their records, and she's not allowed to "disclose" anything further than that, as it would help a fraudster know what piece of information they need to correct before they attempt the call again. Odds are something you used to verify didn't match their record, whether because it was misinterpreted through the phone, or mis-inputted when you registered the account, or some other factor. But besides that, yeah someone tried to SIM you.

Little history is that recently T-Mobile was hacked for the like 8th time in 5 years I believe is what it was (could be off on both those numbers). Verizon is under the t-mobile branch. So what I’m hearing is that the only option to do since ur a secure person is going over to the AT&T branch. I’m not sure if that’s like a “fix all” solution but just generally sounds like a good idea after watching this video.

Same exact shit!!! But also, at the very end, i said well since this seems alarmingly weird, good thing i have this call on record .. the rep said you cant do that. We dont allow calls recorded, then i said but you guys said the calls are recorded for your end.. and she started getting mad then yells at me saying i cant record bluhbluhbluh... Yet then fails to do shit for me... And is exposed... I bave the whole video recorded too.
this reminds me of a video GradeAUnderA made awhile back on 2FA. He said something along the lines of get a second phone that is either not under your name/last name or a burner/cheap pre-paid and have that as a separate one from your main one to exclusively use for things that you don't want people to access. I think the main one being under your name should be social medias/text messages should be fine, but 2FA phone number has always been horrible for security purposes so I def recommend the authy/google phone message method, however, make sure to have those passwords saved in several areas that you know will be easy to access and secure. Having your legal name out there will make you a target for people to call up each and every phone provider and be like im jimmy cook i am him can you give me a new sim card etc. most people will be fine but larger creators in the cyber security space poking at sensitive subjects need to be on their A game in regards to security.

resepect for delivering this kind of info bro, not many people talking about this to the public. One thing I would add about your work-around is I have tried the same thing before with using a google voice number, some services will accept it but I have had other services deny the number because their system recognized it is a VoIP number and they forced me to use my real carrier number. Seems like the only way to truly be 100% secure these days is by not having any technology service registered to you xD lmao
