Beautiful shots of the skidder pulling from a distance, rolling through the hills. It’s a great life.

Back in the day when I was logging we used to drag the entire tree out, 2 fellers in the woods, (one always watching the others back for safety) skidder operator pulling, two on the landing cutting and separating.
Once on the landing we’d cut the logs and pile them, pull the tops out of the way and limb those for firewood sales, send the limbs through the chipper and sell the chips to the local wood chip plant.
One day one of the fellers was cutting by himself on a day off, he never saw it coming, a hung tree from the previous days cut was caught in the trees, no one mentioned it nor removed it.
My brother-in-law “ Rick” was cutting and the movement in the surrounding trees due to him dropping a tree facing away from the ‘danger’ tree (widow-maker, didn’t even know it was there, major lack of communication) caused it to break loose and fall, he was wearing his hard hat with ear muffs and face shield so he didn’t see or hear anything, a portion of the top caught him right at the base of the neck. His hard hat was found over 30 feet from him and was split 3 ways. If he was 5 feet away or to the left or right it would have completely missed him, all he would have gotten was the brush whipping him. As it is the doctors didn’t expect him to live, his injuries were pretty severe but he ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, he is now a quadriplegic. My sister ended up staying with him this entire time taking care of him. That was about 15 years ago.
There’s much more to the story, especially how he was found, but this is RUclips and I try to keep my comments short 🙃.
BLUF - Bottom Line Up Front, Have fun in what you do but, Be safe and always try to have a partner in the woods!

Thats a sobering story thanks very much, I try to have someone with me as much as possible, or I head to the pine plantation...it's a little tamer. All the best.

I'll give you all the credit in the world being a good skidder operator, I can only aspire to do that, but as mentioned by a couple others, be super careful in your felling cuts, the double felling cut got me almost to yelling at you, also perhaps the man coming to help you fell can show you how to place a strap or chain on a tree to prevent barber chair, it also helps with cutting down tricky tree like that one that was all twisted in the other tree, trees that are rotted at the bottom end, Best of luck to you in all you do, even with my criticisms, I really did enjoy this vid, the scenery was great.
