    I'm not happy with the trade because of Korpisalo's albatross contract. It's a big risk hoping that he rebounds. If he doesn't, you're stuck with a horrible contract or have to buy it out. The net cap space savings after this trade this year isn't much ($5M Ullmark gone but absorbing $3M Korpisalo and $835K Kastelic). But I applaud your bravery to have an optimistic take on this trade when most Bruins fans hate it.

    • @blackngoldproductionsllc
      @blackngoldproductionsllc  3 месяца назад

      To be honest same could’ve been said about Ullmark coming in from Buffalo who was given a $5M deal back then. Obviously not the ideal contract but give him time to grow in Boston and who knows what you’ll have in a couple years, maybe even a vezina type goalie :). Kastelic likely will head down to the AHL giving the Bruins back the 835k or it’s a league min contract so you don’t have to go out and sign someone else!

    Sweeney and Neely should be fired, but they are safe, because Jacobs does not want to go through the process of looking for new management. Incompetent ownership and incompetent management. The 25th OA pick should have been just for taking a bad contract in Korpisalo, then for Ullmark you need another first + decent player or prospect.

    • @blackngoldproductionsllc
      @blackngoldproductionsllc  3 месяца назад +1

      There were a couple problems in this deal that caused Ullmarks value to drop. First was the lack of buyers due to the goalie market subsiding in one day. The other is that Ullmark wasn't willing to talk about long-term signing. Korpisalo had a bad year in Ottawa but that doesn't mean anything when you look at the last several. Us Bruins fans have to chill out till after Free Agency is over. If Sweeney comes up empty we will talk, super extensively...

    Perhaps, a team that has been strapped for cap space for so long should be a bit more frugal? Is this another Mike Reilly contract? It's $3M X4 years. Gotta wonder if the rest is their "secondary scoring".

      The Korpisalo deal give it a year or 2 won’t look all that bad. We’ve seen what goalies and Boston can do and become and this is yet another example of that. Pick your poison, Ullmark was the exact same reaction and now we’re here…

      Bruins goalie tandem was a lag on our potential for talent up front. We can't pay for a #1/2 center with fully activated swayman AND ullmark. It's a situation where one HAS to go. Getting something for a goalie whose stats are inflated by a stifling Bruins defense is a good move. This package is a Don Sweeny cooker that gives us a few more pieces to trade with and 2 million in cap space.

      @blackngoldproductionsllc  3 месяца назад

      The truth is that Kastelic likely won't see the NHL to start the year and if he does he's on league minimum which just bumps another current Bruin on a similar contract down to the AHL clearing the cap. That's where the $2M comes from. Hope this helps and sorry I didn't explain it better in the video.

    A solid backup? He was 99th in the league in stats! The worst goalie in the league for 3 million a year for 4 more years!!
    The 25th pick overall might as well be a second rounder..
    And a 4th line center that has 24 point in 130 games in two years..

      With all due respect to Ottawa have you seen their D Corps? One of the worst in the league. Ullmark isn’t the goaltender he used to be during his vezina run and this year proved it. He’s on a contract year and won’t guarantee to sign in Ottawa. Just saying, the Bruins squeezed exactly what they could out of this deal. Whether Kastelic cracks the lineup or not he’s a league minimum deal meaning the Bruins would’ve had to pay it anyways. He’ll likely start in the AHL with potential to grow.

Hell ullmark when he was on Buffalo still had good stats, he’ll i remember Ryan miller have great stats but a crappy record, that isn’t the deal with here. This was a bad signing by Ottawa and they dump his crappy contract to Boston.
      Kastelic, just what we need an other bottom 6 forward that can’t score.
      They freed up a little over a million in cap space where they could have had bussi back up and it would have saved 3 million.

      The difference arises in the structure in which Boston plays the game vs Ottawa. You can say that the shots/scoring chances were the same but Boston clogs out the middle of the ice to a point where the majority of shots are taken from the outer part of the ice (still they go in :( ) while Ottawa is a little more free in their game. Doesn’t mean one tactical system is better than the other but when teams that don’t commit to the structure struggle defensively it shows a lot more than teams with structure. I’m not great with advanced stats but I watch hockey and that’s what I can tell you.

    Bruins fans and hockey enthusiasts around the league BALKED at early reports that the senators tried to force Boston to take Korpisalo in an Ullmark trade at the deadline last year. • @blackngoldproductionsllc

      Part of it is the retained salary. Boston didn't need a goalie and I'll be the first one in line to say that I would've rathered a position player but unfortunately, with all the teams needing goaltenders gone, this was the best package they could have gotten. I think Korpisalo will be good with the Bruins but I can understand why others don't. You get him a little bit cheaper which allows the Bruins to go out to free agency and make a serious offer. Will be interesting to monitor as we head into the offseason!

    Calling Korpisalo a starter is a very far stretch, he has been a solid back up most of his career. And if Kastilic is on the Bruins, you only have $1.1 million on the cap, making it quite literally a lateral move money wise.

    • @blackngoldproductionsllc
      @blackngoldproductionsllc  3 месяца назад

      What I mean is that he’s starter quality. Think back to the playoff run in 2019-2020, Korpisalo was the key to the Blue Jackets getting past the Leafs. Kastelic likely won’t crack the lineup and even if he does the Bruins would still gain roughly $2M. The graphic is up to date however doesn’t show the third goalie bringing down the cap as Bussi is right now. Once (if) he is sent down the Bruins will pick up additional cap space.

      Exactly! The Bruins squeezed what they could from this deal! Especially given the circumstances.

      That’s where we disagree. If Korpisalo can return to his peak form Boston just stole this entire trade!

      He sucks. Other than that one game where he put up 70 saves he is a totally below average goalie by every possible metric. He was so bad on Ottawa last year that underlying numbers suggest he single-handedly tanked the teams defensive metrics and not the sens “inferior” blue line….which is the convenient narrative everybody’s running with out of pure cope. He has put up bad numbers his entire career. And now we are stuck with the contract unless we want to pay more draft picks and it even more of a salary just to get rid of him. We gained almost no Space and effectively barred Brandon Bussi from any kind of NHL role next season due to his contract and waivers status. But oh boy oh boy we got our OWN pick back so everybody supposed to be fat and happy. What a JOKE

      @@hockeytalk6084 LA and CBJ were not bad numbers. Much less for a guy coming to play the backup role. Boston gets themselves a first-round pick for the first time since 21' which is excellent, especially as a team on the cusp between contending and rebuilding. I'm out of stuff to say to you without doubling up haha but I really do appreciate all the discussion that you've driven here so thank you!
