Crossing the front of the plate is not the rule. The rule is simply did the batter attempt to strike at the pitch. It's honestly one of my least favorite rules for the simple fact that it is too ambiguous. I think if MLB wants to fix this problem, they should give some basis to make a call. If they want to use the front of home plate, that should be in the rulebook. I think fans, players, coaches, managers, and umpires all deserve a more clear rule. The other problem, is (and yes I understand that this game occurred almost 23 years ago) there is no camera that gives us the angle down the the third base foul line. One thing I've learned on close plays is angles make a big difference. Looking at the replays I might of said he swung, but that may not have been the case if I was looking down the third base foul line, depending on what I saw.
We’re not big fans of his here in Detroit to say the least; However, he did admit his mistake almost immediately after it happened so I’ll give him some credit for that.
@Peni Spenis not going with it I can if it was a bang bang play but he call him safe before the runner touch the bag I have my own idea why he did it but I'm going to leave it alone
That's not what ironic means. It would have been ironic if Buck had ended up beating the Orioles in the World Series as the manager of a different team.
You Don’t See That from Buck Anymore He’s A Robot
Managers have hardly anything to argue about anymore with replay. This would be overturned this day in age.
@@mattf.1233 No, a judgment call on a checked swing cannot be reviewed and would not be overturned.
He's also 23 years older now. People usually mellow out as they get older. (Though not always)

"Baseball is a funny game."---Dizzy Dean.
If the bat is flat or more it is a swing
@@cjr1881 That is not the rule, educate yourself.
Anything Jim Joyce is involved in us bs ever since he blew that call and course that pitcher his perfect game

Buck almost looks like a 2.0 version of Earl Weaver. Ironic he would later on be the Manager for the Baltimore Orioles

Lol, that's exactly what ironic means.
