- Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the condition of Bone Infection and Osteomyelitis in asimple and easy way, telling you all you need to know about those conditions.
Chronic osteomyelitis is an infection in a bone. It may be an incurable problem.
What happens with bone infections (osteomyelitis)? Usually, bacteria causes infection in the bone. Leukocytes are attracted to the area and secrete enzymes in an attempt to kill the bacteria. Blood flow to the area is decreased and a devitalized, necrotic bone is formed called sequestrum. A sequestrum is infected dead bone resulting from osteomyelitis. Haversian canals surround blood vessels and nerve cells throughout the bone. The sequestrum has no connection to normal bone through the Haversian system (osteon). Due to avascular nature of the sequestrum, antibiotics cannot reach the sequestrum or the bacteria. In fact, the bacteria enters the bone cells and hides inside the bone cells. The involucrum is new bone formation around the sequestrum. The body is trying to seal off the infection by forming new bone. The sequestrum will drain through the sinus. Biopsy of the sinus is not representative. Multiple deep samples are needed. Biopsy of the sinus is important in long standing cases of osteomyelitis to rule out squamous cell sarcoma.
Principles of surgical treatment for osteomyelitis:
Open the involucrum
Remove the sequestrum
Saucerize the bone: make sure a pathological fracture isn’t created. Stabilize if needed (external fixator is usually preferred)
Fill cavity with bone chips, cement or muscle flap if needed: antibiotics usually for 6 weeks (organism specific). Recurrence of infection is high - about 30%.

short and understandable.not like the books very technical, always killing your time, u still have many subjects to study. thank you sir.it is a big help for me.
Very brief, simple, and easy to understand. Once people grasp the basics, then they can learn all the little details for whatever they need. You seem to be a very good teacher. Please keep on doing such videos on all relevant topics. Thanks.

brief ? u got it wrong doc this has got everything possible i could know about osteomyelitis, thanks for making such a brilliant explanation u won my subscribe
I've been dealing with it for a while. My heart goes out to you and your family. Stay up!
i have cronic osteomyelitis for 30 years now.at the time those days the medici didnt know much about this desease.in 1994 they manage to clean the femur bone from osteomylitis, since then every now and then a sinus will form with puss.because off all the scar tissue the infection is now in the flesh.after the dr drain or open the swollen sinus,it took about 3 to 6 month to close again.in that time fever and pain is part of my life.i am very lucky to still have my leg.
Im in the nursing home now with it for the 2nd time. This time the antibiotics didn't want to work at first. I developed it in my ribs, the ribs under the sternum!! So ive had surgery twice now in the same spot in my chest. Very bad area. Infection around my heart and my whole body. Could not even walk this time. But people act like this is not painful! I feel for you. I know your pain and its rough. Its like it heals but your body doesn't ever feel the same and it gets worse everytime it comes back.
I have chronic osteomyelitis too. I had it for almost 3 years now due to a motorcycle accident that fractured my right femur. It changed my life forever. 😔
@@jackkeedal9615 same with me , I underwent surgery last year because of osteomyelitis at tibia . But unfortunately this month it redeveloped again at the same area . Btw how is your leg now ???
@@saleweshena1111 my foot is better now thank u for asking. But from what i gather from others experiences, the infection never really gone. But mine is getting better for now. Don't know if it will flare up again in the future or not. Btw, hope u get better soon. Just don't lose hope and stay strong. May God help us getting rid of this damn disease.
@@jackkeedal9615 but it's not deadly right ??? Yours is the same case with mine for around one and half my leg was fine but I don't know why . As you have said I think it doesn't really disappear. Am glad to hear that you're okay now .
Thanks, very informative. I don't understand why someone would dislike this video
They dont know medicine that’s why.
Because it is not true. You can get well.
Thank you. Had surgery twice at USC on our way to Cleveland Clinic.
the video is great, but I had hard time reading notes and watching the animation at the same time. It would be nice if U could add voice to explain things while we watch this nice animation. Thanks :)
I had suffered from this disease and it has destroyed 2 years of my life.still whenever I remember the pain ,I get frightened.
Did you cure now?
Me too. "Cured" it with COLLOIDAL SILVER (confirmed with Gallium Scan). Left with 'osteonecrotic fragment'.

just had 2 surgeries for osteomyelitis in my maxilla. No fun.
My father was suffered osteomyelities 30 years back, cured by a doctor after 8 months treatment.
But now, the same pain (osteomyelities) is suffering again since three months ago. Please help Sir
my husband also suffering from it..whereu took treatment
Love it❤👏
thanks for video😊im fr russia )))
at the beginning it says that its avascular so antibiotics are not helpful, but then it says antibiotics for 6 weeks? I'm confused
Bayan Hassan the antibiotics don't work until after surgery
Me no doctor..but maybe the application of antibiotics is done manually locally during the medical procedure done by the surgeon( I got impression that antibiotics wouldn't reach the infected area if ingested normally as that area is isolated by the body).
Who is the best specialist doctor plzzz
Treatment seems to work better there in India than it does in America because I habecause I had it I know I was killed in 6 weeks in India I fought it for 4 years here almost died once
Asslamoalikum can you tell me,agar kisi ki bone fracture ho Jaye phir treatment k baad bone dead ho Jaye to kya kiya Jaye ?Kiya leg theek ho skti ha
I was on a life of a long trip
Good
I have got swollen at my left leg below the knee according to scan report its the slight bulge in the fibula bone... Is this is osteomyelitis? I can't touch that area even by mistake if done so, it pains alot i got this pain for about 7 years😔 dear commentors could anyone help me by ur suggestions or is there any solution for this which u know
Yes it could be osteomyelitis
But it could also be a bursitis
It is unlikely to be osteomyelitisi if it occurred 7 years ago and you are not taking antibiotic
If osteomyelitis is untreated then it should have resulted in such a necrotic/dead bone that you would not be living today
You might have bursitis
You might need a CT scan of the leg to see more clearly on what is occuring

This is NOT all TRUE! EXERCISE and bring good oxygen and good nutrition to the area. Take your Antibiotics and don't forget to use Probiotics for your digestive System.... Eat some yogurt or have some pickles or sauerkraut type food. Swim, Walk, Ride a bike but don't just sleep. Rest is good. Do it all. Live it all!!! Use it or loose it!!! Move it!!! Warm it up!!! :)
Seriously? You must be thinking of something else.
I agree with all you said here, except for the antibiotics. I've had OM with sequestrum and sinus since 1977. Antibiotics don't help, even tho i tried, they cant access the sequestrum and all i got was bad teeth. I'm an active 64 now and still dealing daily.
