My local was a Food Lion then turned into Bottom Dollar went back to being a Food Lion again and then becoming a Weis to becoming abandoned and vacant. A very complicated history. Miss that store.
I worked at the Castle Shannon Bottom Dollar from grand opening Jan. 2012 to Jan. 2015 to closing. I LOVED that job. I miss it so much. It's a Planet Fitness now
I live around the corner from this store. It didn't last more than a couple of years, and the prices weren't much better than Walmart. Pretty much everyday until it's closing there were people outside picketing this store.
The site was the original home of Cleveland Elementary School and Fosterville Park. The school was demolished and the park sold to build the store. The entire south side is a "food desert" - there may be 3 grocery stores on Youngstown's south side (and Youngstown's south side is pretty large area in square miles - one at South Avenue and Indianola (Save-A-Lot, before that, Valu King)... maybe on Market Street...
I worked at the Bottom Dollar food store in Reading Penn. The one I worked at closed in Jan. 2015. Its a shame they all closed, they were a good company to work for. Also Wallie, congrats on hitting 12,000 subscribers.
I'm from South Africa and this is very alien to me. Here in my country any empty building would be ransacked and within a month only the outer walls will survive. So no empty building would be safe here. From a small outhouse to big stores. This is why I like to see your videos...nice job
In 2015 Delhaise merged with Ahold to form Ahold-Delhaise. A parent company to a lot of grocery chains. Food Lion, Martin's, and Giant just to name a few.
spongebob squarepants Yes. Ever heard of reviewing a sentence before you post it? And why don’t you shut the fuck up since I was talking to you anyway.
Looks like this place will be remodeled. From Vindy: Regarding the Bottom Dollar building at 2649 Glenwood Ave., Mayor Jamael Tito Brown said Thursday, “My vision is that it becomes a community hub for some of the things that are missing in that neighborhood.” Brown said he also wants the building to have space to address “food insecurities” in the area - there isn’t a full-scale grocery store on the South Side - and would like a bank and / or pharmacy in that 18,000-square-foot building. “We’ve got some initial thoughts on what we believe might be there, but we’re going to have some citizens’ engagement and outreach for that,” Brown said. He added, “It’s going to be tenant-driven, need-based as well. It’s not just going to be we give the space to anybody. It will be for our needs.” Charles Shasho, the city’s deputy director of public works, said bid documents should be ready in 30 days and a contract done by the end of the year. Bottom Dollar went out of business and closed its three stores in Youngstown in January 2015 after the company was sold to Aldi Inc. The city acquired the Glenwood Avenue property, the former Cleveland Elementary School and a playground, from Aldi.
Thanks so very much for the video!!!! We have never been to a Bottom Dollar. It looks like an awesome grocery store!!!! Was this ever a Best Buy because the design of the outside of the building looks just like a Best Buy? Thanks again so very much!!!! You did a wonderful job as always!!! Take care and stay awesome!!!! 👍😬
RIP...we had a circuit city get replaced by a bottom dollar...then BD went vacant around 2011ish. Then they replaced it with a clothing store in 2017, fully remodeled the building. Except here's the cut - it was named THE Bottom Dollar but it was a dollar store.
I just subbed and started watching your videos. I’m in Tennessee we have a Food Lion in our town! Our biggest concern is losing it because the bigger chain Food City is building one in our tiny 6,000 people town. It is where my family and I shop.
We had a few in Reading, PA. One was only built less than a year before Aldis bought em out. That one just recently got torn down and now a Wawa is going there. If you're ever in Reading let me know, I'd gladly show you a ton of abandoned stuff in the area.
We had a bottom dollar in New Castle, PA. I remember while it was open, people were outside with picket signs. I think it was foreign owned and people were not happy. I could be wrong on that but they definitely picketed the store and then it closed.
We had a Food Lion by me growing up in DeSoto, TX. It was open about 2 years and then closed. The building was abandoned for almost 20 years before they demolished it. Its now the site of a church.
Wallie, this might be outdated but there is an abandoned Bottom Dollar Food store next to a United States Postal Service which was an abandoned Big Lots in Clementon, NJ! You should check it out!
Wow, never heard of the chain. Their commercials sounded funny. Aldi's is trying to run everybody out. They have very nice stores after some remodeling. They almost look like Whole Foods. Looked like kind of a seedy neighborhood. Be safe and take care.
Hi Wallie, I enjoy all of your videos. If you ever come to the Chicago area you should come to south suburban matteson Illinois. It is loaded with empty retail. Toys R Us, Carsons, Value City, Carsons, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Dominicks grocery store to name some of them. Aces Adventures filmed Lincoln Mall here in 2017. It's now been torn down. Also the town has some mostly abandoned ragged looking strip malls. Very sad as it was once a thriving town. Keep up the good work and thank you.
I was almost gonna ask if bottom dollars was the northern version of the dollar tree cause of the name but I had no clue it was a discount grocery store
Looks like there was some good memorabilia in there, and that was just in the front that we could see!! I'd kill to get in there and see what time has done to the place, with a decent amount of objects in tact in there.
You must live where Winn-Dixie pulled up stakes in the last 20 years. They still operate in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana. They used to be in a lot of rural towns in Kentucky and Tennessee, then, poof! They were gone between 2000 and 2004.
Ayeee thats by my uncles house😂 love your vids, keep em up, you should check out the abandoned joann in boardman, they build a new one and moved out of the old one, the empty one is by the mall
I was watching a bunch of the old stuff this weekend! Came across one where you said you were going to do a 100 subscriber giveaway ❤️. Always nice to see some new content!
Great video and learned something new about retail history. I think Aldi killed it plus the evil WalMart, plus the evil overpriced Giant Eagle. Some supermarket analyst said Bottom Dollar entered a lot of markets too late to compete with the established Supermarkets. Shame to see them go. Surprised they didn't convert this location to an Aldi. It's the right size for an Aldi or discounter like Dollar General or Family Dollar. Never been to an Aldi or a Food Lion, which reminds me of my ShopRites, many who are near or at the Jersey Shore (even in my town.) Good prices and the frequent shopper card saves you more. Food Lion must be an awesome store. It's logo/mascot is a lion which is feline which are the greatest animals on earth. Thinking about that musty smell... maybe it's that snarley flying pink pig. They probably left him behind and he died and decomposed and is still there in that Bottom Dollar. HAHAHAHAHA
Enjoy your videos keep them coming

I helped open this store in 2012 😂 I’m a meat cutter and traveled from out of state to help them out and I called it being boarded up on opening day.
Moved away many yrs ago.so sad,b back for vacation
Kewl Video!
Wow! 😊

It had to have been closed within months. Built in a very low income area too. Very little chance of it being rehabbed.

is piggly wiggly closing stores too
Extinct gone for good.
I shopped there a few times. That side of town was a fucking food desert before that place opened up, and I'm sure it is again.
This one wasn’t open very long, just a couple years
Omgsh my friend used to work there for her first job 🤯😳

Thanks so very much for the video!!!! We have never been to a Bottom Dollar. It looks like an awesome grocery store!!!!
Was this ever a Best Buy because the design of the outside of the building looks just like a Best Buy?
Thanks again so very much!!!! You did a wonderful job as always!!! Take care and stay awesome!!!! 👍😬
Michelle no, that’s the way those stores were built. The one in Warren Ohio is now a Harbor Freight.
RIP...we had a circuit city get replaced by a bottom dollar...then BD went vacant around 2011ish. Then they replaced it with a clothing store in 2017, fully remodeled the building.
Except here's the cut - it was named THE Bottom Dollar but it was a dollar store.
In Garfield hts Ohio that didn't turn to clothing store
Never heard of this store..interesting
Most bottom dollars were bought out by Aldi's.... bottom dollar stores were awesome !!! Hannaford food was great compared to name brands !!!
I like the new opening for your series, another great video Wallie!
I just subbed and started watching your videos. I’m in Tennessee we have a Food Lion in our town! Our biggest concern is losing it because the bigger chain Food City is building one in our tiny 6,000 people town. It is where my family and I shop.
Food Lion also had a "high end" grocery store named Bloom. It's also defunct.
Great video bro. Hope u are doing well
The former bottom dollar nearest to me changed over to a food lion.
WallieB26 have you found any krogers that have closed
One of his earliest videos is of a closed Kroger, which closed in the early '80s and had been other businesses since.
Not a great area.. glad you made it in and out with no issue!! Sad for that area, no close stores for the people with limited transportation
Never heard of Bottom dollar, theres not even an Aldis here. That building looks like a Media play was in there at one time
We had a few in Reading, PA. One was only built less than a year before Aldis bought em out. That one just recently got torn down and now a Wawa is going there. If you're ever in Reading let me know, I'd gladly show you a ton of abandoned stuff in the area.
As you walked up to the window I imagined that damn big flying around in there all lonely.
We had a bottom dollar in New Castle, PA. I remember while it was open, people were outside with picket signs. I think it was foreign owned and people were not happy. I could be wrong on that but they definitely picketed the store and then it closed.

You know things are bad when you find a bottom dollar store closesed
7:37 what was that noise? Sounded like somebody yelling but it stopped once you took the camera off the glass.
Also 12,000 subs! You are growing like crazy! I think you had like a thousand or less when I started watching you
I don’t remember
Wallie, this might be outdated but there is an abandoned Bottom Dollar Food store next to a United States Postal Service which was an abandoned Big Lots in Clementon, NJ! You should check it out!
Super Kmart was my favorite grocery store
Aldis allieds
Wow, never heard of the chain. Their commercials sounded funny. Aldi's is trying to run everybody out. They have very nice stores after some remodeling. They almost look like Whole Foods. Looked like kind of a seedy neighborhood. Be safe and take care.
Hi wallie great video man

My favorite store is Kroger, then Meijer. I can't stand Giant Eagle or as I like to call Evil Giant.
Looks like there was some good memorabilia in there, and that was just in the front that we could see!! I'd kill to get in there and see what time has done to the place, with a decent amount of objects in tact in there.
Wallie B, my favorite was Winn Dixie and wish Winn Dixie was still around.
And don't you know if it smells that bad outside it's gotta be gag worthy inside lol
You found the one on Glenwood ave! There are two more on Mahoning and Midlothian if you simply can't resist...
Chicken Ray I wondered which location this one was. I figured it wasn’t the Mahoning Ave one
Ayeee thats by my uncles house😂 love your vids, keep em up, you should check out the abandoned joann in boardman, they build a new one and moved out of the old one, the empty one is by the mall
You didnt check the doors? Im suprised
He explained in the video he wasn't comfortable checking the doors in the back.
I was watching a bunch of the old stuff this weekend! Came across one where you said you were going to do a 100 subscriber giveaway ❤️. Always nice to see some new content!
6:46 Abandoned Kmart?
Do you guys ever get stopped by police asking you what you are doing?
I know exactly where you are in this video
Awesome bro
*Nice find! I'd much rather smell the musty scent than the foul cigarette butt of Garfield Heights Wal-Mart. Lol.*
Cool :)
FIRST!! I'm such a noob lol but great video as always Wallie!!
*watches every vid on channel to give Wallie ad revenue*
The local ex bottom dollar is now a huge Aldi store.
Yeah all the ones were I live in Butler PA became Aldi's too..
I loved the bottom dollars in butler ! I miss alot of their food and prices 😭😭😭
It would be cool if you could find a old circuit city. Also unfortunately the circuit city I filmed is now a planet fitness
Awesome video!
I love food lion theirs one 1 minute good video is there any rite aids closing in your area
I have never heard of Bottom Dollar, before now. They get good reviews, it seems. Thanks for the Vlog! 👍
David C. Pierce me neither, Utah dont even have an Aldi
Jennifer Jones there is Aldi and Sav-a-lot, here, and soon, a Hyvee.
Jennifer Jones I'm in middle of Hy-Vee land, also never heard of bottom dollar
David C. Pierce Ive heard of Hy Vee, mostly due to trips to Cedar Rapids Iowa visiting family friends when I was a teen
How is the economy in that area? It seems like lots of your videos are in Youngstown Ohio and looks like lots of stuff is out of business.
Hi Wallie. How are you doing? It sounded like you had someone following you.
Why does it does sound like Anthony from Aces adventures?
Omg that commercial though!!!! Lmao!!! 😂
Hopefully the building will get repurposed.
Bottom Dollar was a part of a Food Lion chain it wasn't doing too well so Food Lion close it
👍👍😎
It looks similar to a fresh and easy
I did a HOLLYWOOD VIDEO store video...

Remember all the complaining people did about Bottom Dollar being s foreign owned company and they sold out and closed anyways.
I wonder if Aldi is going to go out of business, since lidl is here!

This would have been closed before January 2015 because Aldi bought out Bottom Dollar
