Absolutely fascinating. Ergonomically, t-62 seems remarkably spacey for a soviet era tank. Funny how it took a mechanical need (bigger 115mm single piece shells) to get some proper legroom in a soviet tank.

Beale Air Force Base has a T-55/54 on display and you were able to climb inside on certain days which was cool. The T-55/54 was captured during the 1991 Gulf War, but after that guy who stole a M-60 tank running over cars motorhome freeway divider before be killed by police. Well after that bullshit the Base commander order weld the crew hatch's closed so no one can start in up to steel, but there was no engine inside the tank anyway.

The Iraqi army used this tank very well in the Iraq Iran war that tank and T-72 were responsible for destroying and defeating Iranian army also in battle these tanks It defeated English tanks such as the Chieftain. These tanks proved their worth in that war. But we all know that it was destroyed in the Gulf War because, of course, it could not confront a third-generation tank like the Abrams. I remember in an interview with a former officer in the Iraqi army, he said, when we faced the Abrams, we were sending 5 tanks to confront one Abrams tank, and this is something we are not ashamed to do because it is an advanced and powerful tank. For this reason, the Iraqi army abandoned the T-62 and T-72 and introduced the Abrams into service.

If the loader is situated to the right he must handle the ammo with the left arm. Most people are stronger in the right arm. Why did the soviets choose to place the loader to the right

Soviets want their gunners to the left of the gun. Why? I have no sources, but I suspect it makes aiming the main gun (especially handling bore offset) more intuitive for right handed gunners. Loading efficiency be damned.
With autoloading tanks, it's OK. With manually loaded tanks, it's not worth it IMO. But the worst thing by far on these Soviet tanks is the lack of a turret basket. Walk along the moving turret or risk getting your limbs crushed against the hull.

@@prfwrx2497 Soviet tanks did lack a turret basket, but at least these tanks were equipped with a rotating floor.
In addition there is a legitimate reason they didn't use a turret basket on the T-54, T-55 and T-62. Because most of the ammo is located in the hull, and the basket would have complicated and slowed down the job of the loader, especially in such a cramped space.

After a year, it seems that the number of T-62's that the Ukrainians have captured is quite small, especially in comparison to the number of T-72's and T-80's.
This is because the Russians didn't use these tanks in offensive actions, but in defensive and support by conducting direct and indirect fire, depending on the situation.
According to Oryx, only 44 T-62's were captured by the Ukrainians.

@@levilastun829 Doesn't seem like many of any type in occupier attacks are being trophy'd these past months. Any disabled by mine or fpv are getting burned with grenade drops.
