    Nice tank, may i ask what does that wired nozzle do on top of the filter pump with the transparent wire ?

      Hi, it is a venturi valve it sticks up out of the water and as the flow from the filter passes the the outflow of the filter it pulls air in so it basically puts air bubbles in the water.

    hiya i know this is a old video but i set up a tank today using this pump. and i seem to have a problem with the air hose that pokes out of the water. mine just seems to pump water up the air hose and does not draw air down and out of the pump. any idea how to fix this and if its not drawing air in is it a major problem. thanks

      Hi, I have not come across that before in any of the venturis i have used. i mean even just with a piece of tubing it shouldn't pump up the tube, is there anything blocking the flow through the pipe attachment ? its all i can think of that something is blocking waterflow and making it route up the pipe also could try closing the venturi fully then opening it a little at a time. sorry to not be more help that is an odd one

      @@sigurd5489 Hi, the filter does come with sponges which are fine. I just had some of the media from other tanks already seeded with beneficial bacteria so I used this so i did not need to cycle / mature the tank and could put fish in straight away

      @@KelsAquariums so you do not need to add anything In the filter? Just the sponge and the heater? How does that keep the water clean? I thought you needed those rocks and stuff to keep the water clean..?

    Hi mate! I've just purchased this set up as a starter tank. I'm still learning as I go. In terms of the filter would setting it up the way you have in terms of sponges and bio media work well for me? Once I've run a fishless cycle was gonna use it for some tetras and small fish. Are there any particular sponges you recommend? Your videos have been helpful so far!

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  4 года назад +1

      Hi, I would do it this way as you can still get good mechanical filtration and a you get way more biological than just the sponges. any aquarium or pond sponges will do I would just have a thin course one and a thin medium or fine then some biomedia. will work great for some small fishes.

      @@KelsAquariums Hi Kel I have taken your advice as much to the T as I could only difference the media I put in the filter was ceramic alongside the sponges that I cut to size. I also have a massive chunk of sponge taken from a mates established tank sitting under my filter. Should I now be adding ammonia and testing water levels ever 24 hours? Theres so much info out there it's hard to know what to trust.

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  4 года назад

      @@89BigJim you can try amonia and water tests. However if i add cycled media i would normally add fish straight away just slowly a few at a time. thats generally how i quarantine i take media from my main tank then add the fish. If the media has nitrifying bacteria already on it you are good to go but go slowly so it can grow with your bioload

      @@KelsAquariums OK I might try and get hold of some little neon tetras tomorrow then. Would 6 be OK as they are very small? I’ve been watching a few of your
    videos. How’s your Betta doing?
    I’m here in Florida and was wondering what your ph is? You have real nice natural underwater settings in your tanks.
    You’re like me.., not a pro by any means but just enjoy the hobby and take care of the water & fish. Cheers mate

      Hi, the PH in my tanks is about 7.5. I think My last video for this fish was in 2016 he died of old age at some point think one of the last videos is ruclips.net/video/EGyt4TqlWYM/видео.html after that i turned his tank into a shrimp tank / paludarium here ruclips.net/video/o3diBj1LZ2E/видео.html. So i dont have a betta at the moment.

      @@KelsAquariums Hello! I just bought this tank (60l version), but I haven't set it up yet.
      Do you think this pump is good for betta or should I get adjustable one? I've been reading about bettas and everyone says they need calm water, but it is hard for me to grasp how slow the pump should be given that I've never had aquariums before and finding videos of this pump has been difficult. Now that I see it on in your tank it looks kinda fast flowing so I'm wondering if it's too strong for a betta.
