Brad & Lex, you''l love singer Natalie Merchant's "Wonder", "Jealousy" and "Carnival"!! She is the singer here and the songs are from her solo career!!
Natalie Merchant is such a beautiful talent. I fell in love with her voice during my college years as soon as 'In My Tribe' was released. I couldn't stop listening, I was addicted to her angelic voice and the beautiful music she and her band created. So many great songs. Classic.
I was a junior in high Schoo when In My Tribe was released. I can't tell you how many times I listened to that cassette. I do know that I bought the CD the week it was released on CD. Also Natalie is, and always will be, in my top 10 female voices of all time.
I have a side gig as a stage hand at our local 1,200 seat theater. About 5 years ago she came with her bad to sing with our symphony. At one point I walked on stage with some cables for soundcheck. Brought them to the group of folks at center stage. The person kneeling down next to me started singing gently. Turned out to be Natalie warming up her voice for soundcheck. She stood and sang verses from several cool songs like Rosa Lee McFall & other things from Dead Reckoning 1980 acoustic album. Her pure voice is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my life. Also saw her & the Maniacs open for the Dead in Buffalo.
Nice to see you branch out from the narrow path. Great band, interesting sound. Natalie had a good solo career as well with songs like "Carnival" and "Wonder"

Everyone fell in love with Natalie Merchant’s voice when Like The Weather was released. Founded by chief songwriter John Lombardo, he left the band by the time In My Tribe came out. He went on to create the group, John & Mary, only to merge his duet with 10,000 Maniacs when Merchant was looking to depart the band. Mary (Ramsey) then took over as lead singer. After a couple of albums, guitarist Robert Buck sadly past away from liver disease.
10,000 Maniacs were really influential in the folk alternative movement of the mid 90's (Bohemian styles and instrumentation suggesting 19th century folk music). Check out "Trouble Me", "Because the Night", "Gold Rush Brides" and "Stockton Gala Days" by 10,000 Maniacs. Natalie Merchant also had a solo album "TigerLily" too which is worth checking out. Find the song "Carnival" from that album. For a similar folk vibe to 10,000 Maniacs, I believe you listened to a song "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star.

She's saying: this is your life, this moment, right now, is passing, and gone. Whatever it is that you have in your life that is good, that you love, will one day be gone. These are the days we'll remember. If there's a person who's there for you, whom you love, whether they're older or younger than you, realize that you may live for decades without them. If you live long enough, you will lose things and people you have right now. Your body will fail, your loved ones will die. So see it right now and lean into what you are blessed with. Don't only recognize what makes your life good when you look back in the future. Take nothing and no one for granted.
So crazy how Lex has a sixth sense from music. I don’t know if any of her suspicions are true I’m this case, but I still love how interprets it anyway.
It’s funny how Lex picked up that her voice is another instrument. I watched some interviews with her and she is very into “the sound “ and isn’t that into the lyrics. She even, when she first started would sing with her back to the audience and just sang noises basically not lyrics because she didn’t know the words to the song. I’m pretty sure that’s the story.
I remember a girl friend back then saying "I wish I was beautiful the way Natalie Merchant is" and I thought (but did not say) - yeah, I wish that too.
Natalie Merchant is an Angel sent from God with the soul purpose of singing to the world... She means a lot to me and a lot of other people... Thank you for doing this and I hope you do more from her...

Great insight and comment
Natale Merchant says "I Want to Thank You".
Fantastic track, 10,000 maniacs and Natalie were so underrated. Noah's Dove, Gold Rush Brides..so so many others.
So crazy how Lex has a sixth sense from music. I don’t know if any of her suspicions are true I’m this case, but I still love how interprets it anyway.
I believe that she is addressing how you hear people talking about the good old days. She is saying these are the days you remember all your life.
Lex has great musical intuition, and an amazing smile & vibe that can save the world! Keep up the fun you guys!
Have loved this group since they first came out back in the day.
I cannot tell you how much i appreciate you all literally jumping right in
You two just found a gem right there! This band and Natalie solo are both pretty fantastic! Enjoy!
Unplugged version is even better, love Nathalies voice
10,000 maniacs unplugged is some all time greatest performance ever captured
One of the greatest female vocalists of all time.
Brad got this one
This is my all time favorite band. It’s still shame that Natalie left them. There was still a ton of good music to make.
I'm sure everyone wanted too. Everybody may have. You know it's rock and roll.
Thank y’all for this one!
I remember a girl friend back then saying "I wish I was beautiful the way Natalie Merchant is" and I thought (but did not say) - yeah, I wish that too.
I believe the song is about growing from innocence to adulthood. Loving for the first time.
Natalie, Natalie what a talent. For me that song is about living in the moment, the now. These are the days! The only moment is now.
Natalie Merchant is an Angel sent from God with the soul purpose of singing to the world... She means a lot to me and a lot of other people... Thank you for doing this and I hope you do more from her...
Interesting take from Lex, because she was just a kid when she joined the band, and the guys were college age. She was like their little sister.
