  • Happy New Year to you all hoping it will be a good one filled with Gods blessings.
come along with me as I show you how I keep busy in winter since during this period of time we don't have that much community work that needs to be done no veggies or fruit to be picked or canned but, there is always other things that needs to be done and I will happily keep working at it.

    Good morning Giselle,
I believe that you have created a new genre - "diarydoc" Watching from a world away I can't help but view each vlog at least twice. Once to focus on your daily experience, and once to watch your daily experience in the context of a world so foreign from my own. I appreciated your peak in the door of the men pouring the concrete wall. It is good to get a sample of what the men do, and at the division of labor.
I'm a child psychologist and I've been sending links to your vlogs to several of the girls I work with. Here, in the Bay Area of California, we too are locked down because of COVID but unlike you Hutterites our sense of community is very weak and too many of the kids I work with don't know how to play or how to work. They spend their entire waking days in their rooms watching movings, playing video games or posting photos on instagram. My hope is that your vlog inspire these girls to put aside these diversions and to participate more in the life of their families and, more specifically, to develop a sense of wonder about what it would be like to grow up a Hutterite.
I've visited Wingham and Crystal Springs Colonies and I'm convinced that there is so much that American young people can learn from you and Hutterite ways of life to counter some of the isolation and loss of purpose that so many American adolescents feel.
Once again, thank-you for your efforts, as you are touching the lives of girls a world away and doing so with charm, humor, and a willingness to share not only your up days but your down. Bless you, and bless the Hutterites!
PS: I too get these "Ocular Migraines" and have for some time. 1-2 times a week. No idea what brings them on and nor do the doctors. Big nuisance as I can't read, write or drive a car until they pass.

thank you for your message I started crying as I was reading as I have always wanted to help people with every situation they find themselves in.
I never imagined that I could have done this with me only posting videos about our life as Hutterites. it is also a confidence booster for me as I something struggle with comparing myself to other people that have done this longer then I have. I hope my videos continue to help you, thank you and much love and blessings to the girls.

I so completely agree about the lack of purpose in today’s teenagers... those like mine who live in a home with only a few people... I have two sons, and they don’t have a strong social connection at all... it’s a major thing I’ve noticed in the past 10 months. Living in a community with 100+ is so completely different to how I was raised and how I am with my two boys... I regret that I didn’t know 25 years ago about this alternative way of living was an option.

Giselle, we love your dog! Kona is such a riot. Playing in the snow, stretching, following you all over. She really adores you! What a great dog. Giselle, I used to get these migraines (years ago, in my twenties). What helped me was to IMMEDIATELY lie down, completely flat and still, in a dark room with no noise. If you feel a migraine coming on, can you lie down right away? In a dark and quiet room, with the shades pulled down? Even ten minutes might be enough to keep it from going full blown. Also, make sure you are well hydrated. It may encourage you to know that sometimes people who have these in their twenties do "outgrow" them over time.
Love and prayers to you, sweet girl. Your channel is making a positive difference in my life, and I am old enough to be your mother. In Christ, A Friend

The skirt that you wear under your dress,... “Keegala” .... we call those slips where I am (Texas, USA). Traditionally we wear them so the outline of our undergarments don’t show through our dress but they have become much less common in present day. When I was a child it was a requirement to wear under our Sunday dresses but now most people don’t even own them.

My daughter's 32 and suffers from migraines. She too gets the auras that tell her one is starting. Daily 200 mg of Magnesium citrate ( nerve calmer) helps her migraine nerves to settle down. And UdderBalm slathered onto dry hands then covered with thin white cotton gloves (so inexpensive on Amazon) while you sleep will heal that dry skin in a week! 💕

You have no idea what a difference you make in this world.
I just paused for one moment and saw these words that you were reading.
"Even Pleasure preaches grace. Every day we experience a symphony of pleasures we never earned the right to enjoy".
I can only imagine having a beautiful hard working woman such as you then waking up to see you reading such inspirational things as this.
I dont know what the book is, nor do I know the author but truer words couldn`t have been written.
The only thing they left out was the joy of waking up and watching a video from you.

Finding your volg has been the best experience. Seeing the way everyone interacts and support each other is a breath of fresh air. It makes me want to be better person. I enjoy coffee very much so when you make a cup of coffee I usually get one myself. Lol. I enjoy the videos very much but my favorite part is the Bible verse at the end. ( one of my favorite parts). I've been binge watching because I also suffer from migraines. I usually lay down and make my room very dark. Block out any bright light. I take Excedrin migraine and Advil. My doctor told me to try those 2 medicines together. He calls it a migraine cocktail. Thank you for making my day a little brighter. Back to my binge watching. I find it very relaxing and peaceful. Have a great day.

I was so glad to find this video! Remember, you are loved on good days - and not so good. We all have them. Your authenticity is refreshing. I’ve had occasional migraines since I was a teenager. I sometimes took migraine medication at the beginning of the migraine. Then I’d lie down in a quiet, dimly lit room. Sometimes, ibuprofen and coffee help. I hope only the best for you, Giselle.

Dear Giselle, I SO LOVE that your Mama goes sledding with you and your brother!! I have recently found your videos, and they have a comforting effect on me, as here in USA, and other countries are distressed by the Covid and the news. Your videos are a pleasant and happy escape! I must agree with previous commentors, regarding our prosperous societies often lead to lazy and lonely children, and has consequences for them, and for society. I began my career as a pre-school teacher, and The LORD has taken me on a lifetime journey far beyond the classroom. I have found that children who serve their families, have a sense of responsibility and purpose are far happier than those with nothing to do, but cook up adventure, often dangerous, with their peers. I have worked with many children who committed crimes. I had a bit of relationship with a Hutterite colony in Montana (they invited me to come tell children stories!) and surrounding Hutterite and Mennonite communities..(also, shared stories with children on surrounding Indian Reservations). I see that some communities are happier than others! You seem to be in a lovely, happy community! Im glad for that! I also get migrains from time to time ( ugh..horrbile ) but I have noticed I usually get them when I have pushed myself too far and am over-tired, so knowing that, I can avoid some attacks! I take Tylenol and Melatonin right away. Prayers and huggs, and many thanks to you for sharing much of your life with us!! God is using you!!

Ok for d migraine ...I too used to get them frequently...I stopped eating like really sour dairy products ...sour cream over fermented one or even sour yogurt...what else yeah no cheese when you have a little acidity cause it multiplies the migraine and very helpful ...try eating cooler foods in summer and warm foods in winter... identify what causes it ...there r two types one on account of high acidity and other due to real headaches caused by eating very cold things close to sleep hours specially with d wind of d fan or ac vents on ur ears...its d combination...for me...hope it helps

I don’t mean to get personal. If your migraines are right before, or during a specific week out of the month- take magnesium.
Take the magnesium just before bed, that helps you rest better.
If you just get them at random, try an elimination diet. I am on a maintenance medication because mine are so bad. When I first started getting them, it was once a month. Then it was lack of sleep, and still get them occasionally. They’ve been so bad the last few times I’ve had to go in to get shots.

I had horrible migraines and figured out why. Any artificial sweeteners made me have a migraine. So does chocolate. Also just before my cycle starts I would get one. How I get rid of it is two Tylenol, drink a caffeinated beverage with no artificial sweeteners (just a regular coke or a strong iced coffee), and one full glass of lemon water. I can sometimes stop a migraine when it begins! I pray you don’t have them anymore!

Hi Giselle. My daughter had terrible migraines. She discovered that sugar was the main culprit. Try quitting all sugar. Hopefully, you will get good results. Also, when I had migraines, I learned two important things…first they can be caused by repressed emotion. Whatever you are feeling, make an attempt to express it, don’t cover it up. The other was to learn biofeedback. Since a migraine is caused by narrowing of blood vessels in the temple, hence the throbbing as blood tries to get through, I learned to focus on warming my hands mentally, thus transferring the flow of blood away from the temple. As soon as I felt a migraine coming on, I started focussing on warming my hands. It really helps

It was good to see you taking some time off in this video and having some fun!! As for the migraines, my main cause was gluten (I don't eat a crumb of it now). So once I quit that I only experienced them maybe 10-15 percent of the time (rather than the 40-50 percent I was dealing with). A lot of things trigger them, loud sounds, bright lights, perfume, environmental aspects (allergies), and dehydration. My final relief is found in homeopathic products (if you want more info, feel free to email me). That devotional sounds appealing, so many things these days are dipped in sugar coating, sometimes it's refreshing to have someone tell it how it is. Keep up the good work!! :D

I get migraines and I tend to use peppermint oil on my forehead to help. I put pure peppermint oil in a carrier oil, like almond, grape seed, or fractionated coconut oil (which lasts longer). I usually have two strengths, one with a little peppermint oil and another that is a lot stronger. I have seizures and the scent of the oil actually brings me out of it.

We call those underskirts petticoats, or half slips. I get migraines too, the things that bring mine on are different foods such as cheese, ice cream, chocolate, cream. Also stress can bring them on, as can too much sleep. I often wake with one, and the only way I can get rid of mine, is to take strong meds and sleep it off in a dark room. Weird that this works even if I wake up with one, after just saying too much sleep can cause them....life is odd sometimes.

I’m sorry you suffer from migraines, I, too, get them but not as bad as when I was in my 30’s and 40’s. If my Vertebrae is pinched I will through up for hours on end while I have a migraine, I also get them on days when it is very foggy and rainy, you can get them if you are stressed and not getting your sleep. I feel for you because I know how horrible migraines can be. I used to get them up to twice a week, after I discovered that it was certain foods I don't get them near as often. Also my Sister gets them around full moon. Just some tips here.

My migraines tend to be food or lack of nutrition related. If I skip meals because I’m busy or not hungry, by the time the next meal should be eaten I feel a bit of migraine syndrome. I get zig zag vision. It looks like the zig zag girls often wear on dresses. It’s quite distressing but often with it I don’t get a lot of pain. But when I don’t eat properly; neglect my veggies, or overdo meat I get raging migraines. My vision is distorted and my eyes and head hurts so much. Accompanied by nausea and dizziness. I drink stinging nettle tea and lie down in a dark room with a wash cloth rinsed in vinegar over my eyes. It helps me. But everyone seems to react a little differently.

Naturally, pistachios are good for them…I do know that. And don’t wait to see if it is a migraine or simply a headache. Act on it as soon as possible so that it doesn’t peak cause once it does there’s nothing to stop it. Treat the first sign of any symptoms as a migraine the minute they start

Try Eucerin Original Healing Cream. It's more expensive, but works well for the most cracked skin (hands, fingers, heels) and it last forever. Always wear gloves outside once it gets to say, 5 c. Even if your hands don't feel cold. You have brisk winds.

Very late to the advice but my son was getting migraines and his GP said to supplement with iron and magnesium. Sure enough they stopped. We became lax and stopped supplements and they came back a few times and we have worked out over the years that they most commonly happen at the end of school term or when we have being doing too much, I think the supplements help support his body during these stressful times and if we ever notice he is tired or doing a lot we supplement (but not as a regular day to day now).

You asked for ideas on helping with migraines .... m y daughter has them and she had to cut out a lot of different meat... ones that had nitrate in them, like your favorite....bacon, you can and probably do have nitrate free kinds... also some pickled things, as well as caffeine......😳 ya I know..... she also used lavender oil, and a flowering herb called feverfew.... plus peppermint oil....which is great for her, she loves peppermint.
Anyways I hope you find something that helps

Giselle, Have you by chance tried heated paraffin wax on your hands? I had great success healing the cracked skin on my hands using a "Therabath" (Mine were damaged from regular exposure to salt). It's basically a small slow cooker that you dip your hands or feet into special low temp melted wax. They're amazing!

Happy New Year to you and your colony!! I think you have a wonderful
balance in your life of work and play. No telling what would help your hands, but if you apply just plain aloe juice(you can order big jugs) to them before bed and sleep in light cotton gloves, I think will help. I like the blunt devotions. Simple but as you say thought provoking. Sometimes when too many people are trying to tell the same thing the subject gets diminished somehow. Thats how I think of the glittery type of devotions. They are all good, like Christmas trees Ive never met a devotion I didn’t like something about it. Again enjoyed the singing immensely!
Have you tried to sled tandem with Kona on a sled tied to you? Hahah its like the bulldogs at skate parks that barky barky and nip at the skateboards until they learn how themselves. Kona has beautiful lines of conformation. Here in the US the German Shepherds now have this weird sloping rear which is a “style” that is not a practical way for them to move. Its really awful looking. Kona looks like a proper “Alsatian” type!

I found the things you said about German Sheppards having a different shape interesting I didn't know that they did that or that its even a thing/trend. Thankyou for the tip on how to help my hands I have slept with gloves before but, never cotton that might also be a part of the problem. I tried to get Kona to just sit on a sled when its not moving but, she won't have it she thinks they are evil 🤣. Im glad you enjoyed the singing and happy new year to you too. 😊

I would love to have a copy of your Devotional, your cook books & hymnal. God Bless my Hutterite Brothers & Sisters. I'm Christian. My family heritage goes back to the Dutch Puritans but as many did over the centuries some migrated and changed their faith. I grew up in a Holiness Pentecostal Church. After watching the hutterite videos I would say other than communal living I don't see any difference between the way I was raised and the way you are living now. I probably would have loved communal living and I always had a strong desire to cover my head as a young girl but that wasn't something that my church taught and so I didn't know where that thought came from but I made my own head covering to wear around my house that I was not allowed to wear to school. I was the only one out of four siblings that insisted on covering my head. We attended the Pentecostal Church but my dad did not so I had the teaching but we did not fully practice everything that the church taught although I had a strong desire to do it of course I was only a child so I had no choice. At 12 years old I asked my parents to send me to a Christian all girls boarding school because I thought I was supposed to dedicate my life to God completely but my parents kind of laughed it off and refused. I'm thinking that the Dutch Puritan spirit was probably very strong on me as I can very clearly see a difference between the way I thought the world should be and the way the rest of my family did. Mom was the Holiness Pentecostal and it was Mom's family heritage that went back to the Puritan Way. I guess it's Puritan, anabaptist, and then I think from the anabaptist there were off shoots that became the Amish the Mennonites and the hutterites. We probably have the same ancestors in our family bloodline. I would feel right at home living the life you live so obviously that is a spiritual truth from God that not everyone is blessed with.

I’m sorry you suffer from migraines. My neurologist advises the following to help reduce migraines, no caffeine, no chocolate, no cheese, eat protein with every meal, take 400 mg B2 every morning, and magnesium 500-1000 mg at night. She also recommends no artificial flavours along with tracking food to see what might be causing your migraines then avoid those foods. I find the B2 and magnesium really make a difference for me along with healthy sleep patterns. If you are able to are medicine at the first sign of your migraine aura take either prescribed medication for your migraine or ibuprofen etc.

What if you don't want to leave your colony when you get married? It seems the only way a woman could stay in her original colony is if she married someone from the outside who wanted to become a Hutterite and who had no colony yet. I'm guessing that doesn't happen very often.
