I always wanted a subclass that revolved around throwing playing cards like shurikens, and instead of straight it dealt with more effects. I was gonna call it the “card shark”.
@@justintexeira1799 There was a release on D&D Beyond for three subclasses of characters from Legends of Runeterra: Tides of Bilgewater, and the Rogue subclass (Wild Card) was very Gambit-ish, and pretty cool, though needed a little tweaking.
Multi-Class with swarmkeeper. Your bullseye dips their throwing knives in the attack pheromone of the beehive so anyone that gets hit by your knife also gets swarmed by bees.
@@theuncalledfor well it's only for situational fighting, you can still see normally and then don't have to worry about being blinded or fighting in darkness.
@@mattwithoutfear You were specifically talking talking about Daredevil, which implies being actually blind. Blind Fighting is a great fighting style, blindsight is AMAZING. It's just that trying to be Daredevil with that is a bad choice. You'd have to homebrew something instead, to get it right.
@@theuncalledfor I see how you went there but I didn't actually mean a blind PC. I just meant someone who could throw their baton (I guess it would have to be a light hammer) around corners and off people AND have it return to them, while still being able to fight in the dark. If we're talking about playing a blind character, I'd look to homebrew something like tremorsense.
i second this! i love homebrew, especially when you have a character you just cant find a good class-subclass for. also happy to see a vax clip from vox machina cuz as soon as i saw this i thought “dagger dagger dagger”
As someone who is doing an entirely homebrew campaign from the classes to the races to the map to the spells.... I can safely say we need more YMBA Homebrew
YAY I CAN FINALLY BUILD A FIGHTER CHARACTER WITHOUT BEING ALL ABOUT WEAPONS AND DAMAGE Rogues are my favorite class so being able to branch out while still having that vibe makes me so happy 👏
I love how you tied some of the subclass abilities to Wisdom! It still allows the subclass to have a diverse array of interesting abilities and the spread of ability score investments keeps the character from being too overpowered. It also makes sense mechanically since Wisdom is the perception stat!
In a lower power group, the martial classes are better due to having less bad choices compared to the spellcasters. However, in higher power groups, the spellcasters are better due to the few amazing spells that make you have high ac, Able to prevent enemies from moving, prevent death, make you unable to be tracked, and many more.
@YMBA, this is the beauty of home brew subclasses. It looks amazing and is pretty well balanced. Plus, this series could be a way to showcase various subclass ideas from the community or yourself, and I think it is just a lot of fun to stretch your imagination.
hey YMBA, this new series ROCKS! The bullseye is a very cool idea and i wish that you gonna make more video of this series. The next thing that i wish to see is a oath of the fallen paladin.
I am loving this new series already. May I suggest another Subclass to Homebrew? The Hearth Domain Cleric, worshipping home, hearth, and family, food and fire. Very hospitable and I imagine the subclass would focus on cooking food to remove conditions and debuffs, as well as giving out Temporary Hitpoints and dishing out fire damage.
Really cool idea! The only change i can think of is an aesthetic change: I'd call "dead center" "center mass" so i could call "even more center" "dead center" sounds a bit better to me
This is one of the most awesome subclass designs I have ever seen, and it’s EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for as the basis of my current DnD character. I’m playing a human (mark of passage) that is a skirmisher-styled combatant who uses Chakrams thrown around the battlefield. He’s built as a Gloomstalker 5, Twilight Cleric 2 (Level 7) that is a sort of prowler in the dark protecting those in the night, with two weapon fighting. I’ve been working with my DM to make a Blink-Back Belt like Vax in Vox Machina for him. Your solutions for a thrown-weapon fighting class is SO DAMN GOOD and it makes me baffled why Wizards of the Coast never thought of this themselves. The belt at level 3 that allows the return of thrown weapons (wish I had that instead of bankrupting my character paying 4500 gold for one to be made 🥲) and the use of trick shots is incredible, and the later-level abilities are just “chef’s kiss”. This feels right up there with the likes of the Echo Knight in terms of fun to build and play as well as versatility and flavour potential. Seriously impressive stuff, and entertaining as always. Can’t wait to see more from you soon!
I’ve been waiting for someone to do something like this, and who else but, as you put it, “the subclass guy”. Looking forward to your creations, and possibly those of others too, YMBA!
It would be dope to have more martial classes, especially ranged ones, and ones with more movement, this is a dope blend that brings multiple problems together with one solution to answer them.
You know it’s a good day when YMBA posts a new video, but it’s a GREAT day when it’s a brand new concept for a series and an AMAZING day when there’s a brand new subclass to try out. Tonnes of love to my favourite YMBA, I can’t wait to play The Bullseye ❤
Please do more Homebrew Hangout, I would LOVE for you to make a Warlock. I think Hex Guns or something like that sounds amazing, Eldritch Blasting from hand guns, but you go off. I love your ideas
I actually really like the idea of this as a new series cause I have a hard time with Homebrew classes since I’m not sure which would be safely optimized for play (so they’re not so OP they’re boring), so this might help me find things I enjoy!
YOOOOO HOMEBREW LETSS GOOOOO! I though it would be great that in the future you would uncover some homebrew classes or subclasses, with references to original creators. Hand of Vecna classes and subclasses are pretty cool. So as Kibbletasty.
Love the homebrew, your ideas are really cool and hopefully we can get a whole class homebrew from you one day and also here’s to an awesome new series
Half of this reminds me of the Conan cartoon from the late 80s or early 90s. The girl in the group had throwing stars of the star metal that banished the snake men which she used a potion on to make them return after thrown. She even gave some of the potion to one of the guys who used bolas but he later melted them down to make a boomerang since the ropes kept getting tangled.
Unconventional use, but a dip here might be just the ticket for a Captain America build. Unless throwing a shield doesn't count as a thrown weapon attack. I'm unsure, so I'll leave this here for someone to correct me on.
If you're going for a captain America build, a shield will naturally become a thrown bludgeoning weapon attack to fit the role play. This subclass is homebrew, so it balances outkinda
Damn thats sick!!! Bullseye is my favorite character so i thought soul knife would i get as close as i could get. I love the opportunities and options this subclass offers!!
Nice work! Love the subclass. One other niche I've always wanted to play and have tried filling with homebrew subclasses is a spellcaster that excels in melee using touch based spells (avoiding BB/GFB). Closest I've gotten is a Warlock but I had to invent Eldritch Grasp (Eldritch Blast, but range of touch) to make it work. On top of enhancing the damage of their touch spells, subclass features also gave them a bunch of defensive buffs for ending their turn within 5 feet of an enemy. It was pretty cool. Maybe you can take a swing at the touch-caster one day.
I’m definitely going to try this out on an upcoming one shot. I’ve always wanted a good thrown weapon fighter, so thank you for the subclass! Awesome new channel idea 🤘
I'm so happy I'm not the only person who wanted to try and make Thrown weapon fighting actually work!! Thank you so much YMBA!!! Definitely going yo use this in my next campaign!
this is awesome, i actually have a player in my game that this would work great for. currently he is trying to accomplish the "midrange thrown weapon fighter" with the battle master and a bit of homebrew, so i look forward to showing him this and seeing what he thinks! keep it up, this is super fun!
My dad and I are currently working on something very cool imo, since he was in the navy for 8 years he wanted to make a list of classes that are ship based and pirate based. With instructions on naval combat, how ship dmg works, cannons, specific Cannonballs to use for what purpose and a ton of other things. Right now we are working on the witchdoctor class and subclasses it's been very fun thus far.
There’s 2 subclasses that makes thrown weapon fighting decently useful. The first is Path of the Giant Barbarian, with the ability to use all your barbarian abilities except Reckless attack on thrown weapons, and the Second is Soul Knife rogue, with the ability to create Psychic daggers that disappear after they hit the enemy.
I have a character who could benefit from this class. He throws all of his weapons in every fight. Side note: my first thought as I clicked the video was that Pointy Hat seemed to sound different than I remembered. Lol. Not insinuating anything. Love both channels.
Congratulations, you just made Captain Boomerang from Suicide Squad, YMBA. Also, I think this subclass would work well with the Rogue class better than Fighter since then you could mix it with Sneak Attack to deal even more damage.
Love that we have a new series to look forward to and I also love this because I've always wanted a throwing subclass, especially since I loved Vax so much in Vox Machina
Some ideas for other subclasses: a Monk based on bodybuilding/modeling, dex OR strength based martial arts and a "Zoolander" inspired ability to deflect missiles with a short radius. A Blood-Hunter who is steadily replacing organic parts with mechanical/alchemical features, with enmity to constructs who have become what they hate (as is typical for Blood-Hunters). A Rogue with emphasis on long-cons who can "Ocean's 11" the party by sharing expertise for a duration, for improving their skill checks when partaking in heists and schemes. ... and a Bard who specifically inspires crowds, an agitator, a demagogue, a firebrand of an orator who can and will rile up a mob (or at least the party) into a frenzy.
Dude I love it so much. Please make more homebrew content and share it with the world, you have some very cool ideas!!! If you want any sort of inspiration, I was thinking of using runes, like norse runes. Maybe for a wizard or sorcerer, and they can do things like inscribe spells into the runes and cast them in different ways! Idk just a thought
I did a Juggler Bard subclass that makes thrown weapons and improvised thrown weapons fun. Short version, Everything you throw is a Magic Stone (but two-weapon fighting works), and you can use bardic inspiration die to add damage and effects to hits, a la Swords Bard.
Fun fact! I have a Kenku Swarmkeeper Build based off of throwing daggers to Activate the feathers(swarmkeeper) and drag enemies through spike growth to blend them (Im playing him in Curse of Strahd)
"As you enter the tavern, you notice a figure in the corner. Upon approaching him you see that it is Gambit from the X-Men animated series."
