      @robe2504 6 дней назад

      I liked Cousins, but his limitations were real. At 36 coming off that Achilles, I can see his lack of mobility becoming a real problem.
      The thing some Vikes fans probably don't appreciate about Darnold is that he is very agile and strong in the pocket, and a legitimate rushing threat. He does have a good arm, and could legitimately thrive in KOCs scheme with Jettas and co as targets.

    Are we certain the Flores defense will return to form as it did in game 1 through 13 last year? Or will we get the Flores defense from game 14 - 17? I fear we saw this before with the Zimmer defense at the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018.

  • @Selling-McCarthyism

    Until we get rid of KOC, we will continue to not have respect. KOC will not even reach Zimmer heights

  • @robe2504
    @robe2504 6 дней назад

    I think the easiest thought experiment is to imagine this year's Vikes roster with Cousins at QB. This years roster is younger and faster and feels significantly better across the board than the 2022 or 2023 version. Year 3 KOC, year 2 Flores, Aaron Jones, year 2 Addison, year 3 Ingram & Chandler, a much deeper edge rotation, and CB room.
    So if Darnold plays anywhere close to Cousins, and he could potentially be even better, especially a 36 year old Cousins coming off an Achilles, then I can't see any reason why this isn't at least a 10-12 win team and division winning team.
    Folks talk up the Lions, but the Packers went to Detroit and beat them squarely late in the season. The Bears had them absolutely on the ropes in Detroit, and then smashed them at Soldier Field. The Lions weren't even that convincing against Mullens. It wouldn't surprise me if they missed the playoffs. Goff is the slowest QB in the division now.

It's going to some time for everything to gel with Darnold on offense, and the Flores scheming and player fit ins. With a little luck, and error-free football, we could reach 9 wins. With errors and inconsistency, it could be four or five wins.

    • @purplepainforums
      @purplepainforums 6 дней назад

      3 wins would be awesome TBH. This team isn't winning the Super Bowl this year and its ceiling is probably only 8 or 9 wins, so the more losses the better, for that higher draft pick. They're setup good to start making a run in 2025, so one more good draft would help a lot.

    People forget that in Cousins first 3 seasons at Washington he was even worse than Darnold. Cousins had 2 wins and 7 losses, throwing more INTs than TDs, and that was with the luxury of sitting behind RGIII. Cousins was already 30 when he arrived in Minnesota and didn't really win over most of the fan base until his 9th or 10th year in the league. Every reason that folks give for JJ being in a position to succeed with the Vikes, also apply to Darnold. Darnold has an even better draft pedigree and has already taken his lumps.

    As a vikings fan, I only lean slightly towards the over on 6.5. I wouldn't put money on it though. They had some BAD turnovers at the beginning of the season so I don't see how the "puck luck" gets any worse. They do have a tough schedule though, and Darnold is a big ?. This year is about development though, so I don't care what our record is. Also, we are still eating Kirk's dead cap, so of course we are short at a couple positions.

    Using very accurate math this is how the NFC North is projected to turn out if every team played the cleanest version they could (no TOs):
    Lions - 9.8 wins
    Packers - 9.2 wins
    Vikings - 8.8 wins (smash the O 6.5 wins)
    Bears - 8.6 wins.
    Gonna be very close this year.

    I think the 2023 season is an irrelevant reference for the Vikes. The 2024 roster seems younger, faster and deeper across the board compared to the 2022 division winning team. Some folks are reading way too much into the difference between Cousins and Darnold. Cousins was an 8 win guy in Washington, and still an 8 win guy in Minnesota until KOC got there. Darnold was 8-9 with the dysfunctional Panthers, so I'm pretty sure he can win plenty of games with KOC and the Vikes...

    Not being a Vikings fan and listening to this podcast pretty regularly, I don’t think anyone is underrating them. Vikings fans getting hyped about Sam Darnold for a minimum of 9 games is crazy…

    It’s nice for this topic to finally actually get the acknowledgment it deserves…. Let’s just be real about this the Vikings lack legitimate raw talent at most all premium positions.
    Which leads me to the this..
    When the Vikings potentially have a top 5 draft pick in 2025 do you “Stick and Pick” for potentially drafting an even better QB talent than all the QB’s on the roster? Do you grab the top DL? Or trade the pick for the similar haul New England turned down. (How many other teams would have said no to that trade?)
    I’m a supporter of Kwesi but the wrong statements were being made. His job wasn’t on the line in the 2024 draft. He did what you expect a GM should do who has 2 first round picks and a need at the QB position.
    In 2025
    - If the Vikings fall flat.
    - JJ plays and doesn’t look like an option you’re willing to trust at the position..(with all the shielding)
    If the Vikings do have a top 3 pick in 2025 Kwesi job gonna be so difficult…..

    The pundits are right, you win in the trenches, and the Vikings are hot garbage in the interior trenches on both sides of the ball. They once again put a priority on flashy skill position players over the blue collar guys that help teams go deep into the playoffs every year. Doesn't matter how many weapons you have if the interior is collapsing every other play.

    On compensation for the for tampering with Cousins: The other instances of tampering did NOT result in the player/coach going to the team that tampered... except for the Eagles... who were compensated with picks by the Cardinals. I think the Vikes will get some compensation.
