i read that the meaning behind this MV is that IU is deaf and V is blind in one eye, and the cube represents society wanting to get rid of all of those that are disabled/not "normal". when they look through the camcorder they can see themselves as society wishes them to be and so they live in this fantasy land until the cube eventually comes for them in the end. IU covers V's one good eye so he doesn't have to watch whats going to happen to them. and in the end, their clothes are all that is left and it gets added to the pile of all those that society has "gotten rid of" before them. this MV gives me chills!!
So many people are stating that IU is def but if you watch closely she can hear and turns to sounds and signs to V. He does not turn to sounds. IU is pulling him along protecting V. UPDATE: After reading the guide to the MV and the interview by the director it talks about those that cannot see and those that don’t have a voice. Those that do not have a voice are mute. Those that are mute also use sign language which would explain why UI does not speak (suggested by the ring on UI lip) and why she is using sign language to communicate with V. This is also why the cube took her too. This is such an emotional video.

Non-disabled people are constantly putting us down, saying we aren't worth loving/isn't worth living, saying that non-disabled people dating disabled people are 'saints,' the push to institutionalize us or programs like MAID that force us into poverty situations where only su!c!de is the option. Everything is purposeful and has meaning, but leaves the viewers to have their own interpretation. She is the producer of this project & writer of this song. She did a stunning job with her heavenly vocals and I am delighted she casted V to co-star opposite her.
In that Palette episode V talked about wanting to portray a character like this one. I don’t know if this MV had been planned/filmed already at the time, but if it wasn’t and she made it happen for him before his enlistment it would make me admire & love her even more.

the talent IU and V have is just insane. they filmed this entire video and recorded the vocals all in a week. in the video IU is deaf and V is blind in his right eye. the acting they both did in this video is just insane. this should be made into a k-drama 100%. believe it or not IU was extremely sick with the flu when she recorded this song in the studio. she refused to stop because it needed to be finished before V had to report for his military service. there is a video of her and what she went thru during the recording. how she pulled it off and how amazing her vocals sounded truly shows how amazing she is. this is one of the best MV's i have ever seen. the storyline, the concept, the metaphors and the way they portrayed it, how they built their characters in a 5 minute video is just insane.

Such a beautiful and heartbreaking music video! 😭 At first I thought this was the story of a doomed couple imagining life before the apocalypse, but the pile of clothes keeps making me think of Spring Day, where BTS used a pile of clothes to represent souls that been lost and/or wronged by society. In this MV, IU is deaf (?) and V is half blind, and I think that what they saw through the camera wasn't "life before the apocalypse" but rather what their lives could have been if they were "normal." And the red murder-cubes represent society that disregards and hurts those who aren't perceived as ideal. 🥺 But I agree! If they made this into a show or movie I would 100% watch it! The acting and chemistry by IU and V was amazing!

What a movie! Wow! I mean.. music video.. seriously though I hope Tae does more acting, and IU is great! They did so well together! IU's voice is so.. clear and penetrating. I really wasn't expecting a post apocalyptic ride, but dang, I've cried every time I've watched this.. 💜
She has a unique voice with very good singing skills with strong falsetto vocals. But its her lyric poetry, acting skills, and probably one of the most kindest individuals that sets her apart. Among girl kpop artists she is my second favorite.

Here IU is deaf and Taehyung is blind and they love each other, but society won’t let them be happy by discriminating against them.Perhaps the message behind this video is the discrimination people feel and experience. It was so beautiful that they stayed together and comforted each other till the very end. IU was tapping in sign language "I love you" to Tae (on his shoulder) and hiding his good eye so he doesn't have to be face to face with it 🥺
The MV is such a visual treat and the melody is dramatic, but the lyrics are special. In some ways, it tells a Romeo and Juliette story. The lyrics talk about a live that goes against convention.

this is a masterpiece SHORT FILM! In 5.22sec they were able to portray and invoke such deep emotion it was like watching a an entire Kdrama series in that time. The voice the song, the acting, the clothing the cinematography. this is a short film and should be acknowledged.

There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant. The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

I greatly appreciate how sincere you are in your reactions John, I just came from a reaction to this that I ended half way thru because I guess the person had seen how many people were reacting to this MV and peoples thumbnails of them genuinely crying or being sad. i have a feeling that V will be on one of the other song from IU because this was a prerelease single. and when V was on her show "palette" they sang together and it was magical and she said that their voices matched so well together and everyone agreed also V so. i think there will be a song with them. if not on her album then maybe a single from V later on. maybe there will be a performance from them too
Oh John, IU is actually have a hearing problem since 2021. And also she's been donating to marginalized people incl. deaf & mute and elderly since her early days of her career. One more fact, she played as the granddaughter with debts who takes care of her ill deaf&mute grandma in 2018 Kdrama "My Mister". Btw, i forgot what's her condition called, but it is described as she suffers from hearing her own breath and also hear your own chewing sound. It's like having a droplet of water inside your ear, but to IU, there's no droplet and it's hurts her left ear. That's why in some live shows (i.e Strawberry Moon MMA 2021 perf) she's bending down or keeps adjusting her in-ear piece so she could hear her voice and the band.
She was born deaf and he was born blind in one eye so they were considered defects, they were not perfect so they had to go ... pretty true to the society we live in now.

It was tough to get past the "Spring Day" pile of clothes.right at the beginning. Then, hard as I tried, here came the Suchwita cube and I started laughing. At least I am not alone it that. Hi John, we must be on the same wavelength as far as wanting this MV to also become a full cinematic release. The beautiful song should also be part of the movie score obviously. Here in this dystopic scenario we get to glimpse for only a brief moment 2 lives wishing for happiness, not realizing yet that this was their 11th hour. Once they meet their end, they too become part of the other victims who will be nameless & forgotten, but at least we as viewers get to know their story out of the other billions of stories that were never seen, just as you said. You already know the song Spring Day by BTS, so you might have been familiar with that pile of clothes, which itself was inspired by a work by the artist Boltanski. For me, the MV has parallels with post-apocalyptic movies/books, such as Oblivion (with Tom Cruise), Terminator, Edge of Tomorrow (again with Cruise) & the classic War of the Worlds. Other comments around RUclips have interpreted the MV & song as about couples that age together & their deaths. Others interpret other things, like the lives of KPop idols & fans, etc etc. Whatever the case, we all get to interpret it the way we want & by something we are familiar with & experience. I am also a vintage computer & electronics enthusiast, so one thing I noticed in the MV was that the technology of the TVs, monitors & digital cameras are like something from 2-3 decades ago, so I wonder if the story's setting is supposed to be set back then. At face value & first impressions, the storyline setting in this IU MV is just reminiscent of such science fiction as the examples we both mentioned. For me, it does look like a threat that either comes typically from the sky (extraterrestrial) or something of our own doing & doom, such as our own artificial intelligence finally being awoke of its own existence & consciousness. It is highly topical as we are now starting to see more & more AI coming into fruition & there are many people who are concerned that we need to stop, slow down & think about the implications & the frontier of what could happen. This includes people such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates & the late Stephen Hawking. Of course the concerns have been around for decades. That is why we already knew about the dangers of AI going as far back the late 1960s with HAL from 2001 A Space Odyssey & also Terminator in the early 1980s. I say that because, in the sci-fi scope of things, advanced AI could easily make something like a cube that looks so simple yet sublime & dangerous. I've lost count on how many times I've watched the MVM and every time it makes me cry. The beautiful chemistry that IU and V portrayed shows the immense love between the characters. It was such a beautiful but sad story 💜
IU's voice sounds majestic and their acting felt so real. Glad that IU asked Tae to shoot the MV with her. These two were given National Titles by the Korean Media and netizens. Such a beautiful and heartbreaking music video! 😭 At first I thought this was the story of a doomed couple imagining life before the apocalypse, but the pile of clothes keeps making me think of Spring Day, where BTS used a pile of clothes to represent souls that been lost and/or wronged by society. In this MV, IU is deaf (?) and V is half blind, and I think that what they saw through the camera wasn't "life before the apocalypse" but rather what their lives could have been if they were "normal." And the red murder-cubes represent society that disregards and hurts those who aren't perceived as ideal. 🥺

She has a unique voice with very good singing skills with strong falsetto vocals. But its her lyric poetry, acting skills, and probably one of the most kindest individuals that sets her apart. Among girl kpop artists she is my second favorite.
I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

The director said that the cube represents the discrimination people face by society 😢the cube hunts down these people who are considered "faulty" in this society and annihilates them. Here IU is deaf and Taehyung is blind and they love each other, but society won’t let them be happy by discriminating against them.Perhaps the message behind this video is the discrimination people feel and experience. It was so beautiful that they stayed together and comforted each other till the very end. IU was tapping in sign language "I love you" to Tae (on his shoulder) and hiding his good eye so he doesn't have to be face to face with it 🥺

this is a masterpiece SHORT FILM! In 5.22sec they were able to portray and invoke such deep emotion it was like watching a an entire Kdrama series in that time. The voice the song, the acting, the clothing the cinematography. this is a short film and should be acknowledged.

There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant.
The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

I greatly appreciate how sincere you are in your reactions John, I just came from a reaction to this that I ended half way thru because I guess the person had seen how many people were reacting to this MV and peoples thumbnails of them genuinely crying or being sad. And I guess he thought he should fake cry thru the video, constantly wiping his eyes that were bone dry. I really don't get people sometimes and how the feel they need to fake a reaction to get views. Anyways, IU and V had great on screen chemistry it's very cool to see them act together. This seriously could've been a movie or drama.

Oh John, IU is actually have a hearing problem since 2021. And also she's been donating to marginalized people incl. deaf & mute and elderly since her early days of her career. One more fact, she played as the granddaughter with debts who takes care of her ill deaf&mute grandma in 2018 Kdrama "My Mister".
Btw, i forgot what's her condition called, but it is described as she suffers from hearing her own breath and also hear your own chewing sound. It's like having a droplet of water inside your ear, but to IU, there's no droplet and it's hurts her left ear. That's why in some live shows (i.e Strawberry Moon MMA 2021 perf) she's bending down or keeps adjusting her in-ear piece so she could hear her voice and the band.

It was tough to get past the "Spring Day" pile of clothes.right at the beginning. Then, hard as I tried, here came the Suchwita cube and I started laughing. At least I am not alone it that. But she has a beautiful voice and with luck I'll get a ticket for the Rosemont show in July unless the Ticketmaster curse continues.

Hi John, we must be on the same wavelength as far as wanting this MV to also become a full cinematic release. The beautiful song should also be part of the movie score obviously. Here in this dystopic scenario we get to glimpse for only a brief moment 2 lives wishing for happiness, not realizing yet that this was their 11th hour. Once they meet their end, they too become part of the other victims who will be nameless & forgotten, but at least we as viewers get to know their story out of the other billions of stories that were never seen, just as you said. You already know the song Spring Day by BTS, so you might have been familiar with that pile of clothes, which itself was inspired by a work by the artist Boltanski. For me, the MV has parallels with post-apocalyptic movies/books, such as Oblivion (with Tom Cruise), Terminator, Edge of Tomorrow (again with Cruise) & the classic War of the Worlds. Other comments around RUclips have interpreted the MV & song as about couples that age together & their deaths. Others interpret other things, like the lives of KPop idols & fans, etc etc. Whatever the case, we all get to interpret it the way we want & by something we are familiar with & experience. I am also a vintage computer & electronics enthusiast, so one thing I noticed in the MV was that the technology of the TVs, monitors & digital cameras are like something from 2-3 decades ago, so I wonder if the story's setting is supposed to be set back then. Maybe this came from a book or something.

At face value & first impressions, the storyline setting in this IU MV is just reminiscent of such science fiction as the examples we both mentioned. For me, it does look like a threat that either comes typically from the sky (extraterrestrial) or something of our own doing & doom, such as our own artificial intelligence finally being awoke of its own existence & consciousness. It is highly topical as we are now starting to see more & more AI coming into fruition & there are many people who are concerned that we need to stop, slow down & think about the implications & the frontier of what could happen. This includes people such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates & the late Stephen Hawking. Of course the concerns have been around for decades. That is why we already knew about the dangers of AI going as far back the late 1960s with HAL from 2001 A Space Odyssey & also Terminator in the early 1980s. I say that because, in the sci-fi scope of things, advanced AI could easily make something like a cube that looks so simple yet sublime & dangerous. Of course, as I said earlier, I know the cubes in the MV can represent & symbolize anything we want, but the imagery in the MV has already set us up visually for what we think it can be on first impression, as that is what they wanted to portray as the underlying visuals for the music & lyrics. Great acting & cinematography as well for just a little MV.
